Classical guitar in a variety of modern styles is my specialty, though I have experience in repertoire from the Renaissance and onward. I put a lot of importance in tone and dynamic production, as well as conventional technique, in order to coax out every little bit of potential the instrument has in the hands of a capable musician. Welcoming beginner through advanced students.

Cory is an excellent teacher. He is thoughtful and has plenty of patience in his teaching methods. My daughter has progressed an awful lot in such a short time. She really enjoys learning to play the guitar with his guidance. I would highly recommend Cory to anyone who would like to learn to play guitar.

I've been teaching 20 years. Classical Guitar technique is the foundation for most fingerpicking styles. Exploring the repertoire of Bach, the classic guitar composers - Sor, Guliani, Carcassi and learning how to arrange melodies for the guitar even if not written for guitar are some of the goals when I teach this style. My specialty is Brazilian Guitar and I have available vast repertoire of guitar music for the "Classical Guitar" plus I've explored the works of Piazolla and Leo Brouwer to name 2 guitarists. For Beginners we begin with 2 fingers, basic reading, getting a feel for your instrument, all made fun through the use of melodic material from various sources, sometimes pop tunes chosen by the student

I have been taking lessons with Billy since January 2015. I am a total beginner and I really think I have made the best choice ever to pick him as my teacher. Billy is an experienced guitar teacher and a professional player that knows great techniques for beginners. He has been teaching me basics of guitar in a smart way, and at each lesson I feel I learn something new and at the same time I can clearly see how much progress I have made since our first lesson. He has also been teaching me how to read music and tabs which proofed to be extremely useful every time I want to learn a new song by myself. Highly recommended!
Lynn W.
I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows.

It's been one of the single greatest joys of my profession as a musician watching these amazing children grow and flourish. I feel a true calling and blessing in my uncanny ability to connect

"I have been taking classical guitar lessons with Remi for about a month now and so far my experience has been very positive. Remi is an excellent musician with robust knowledge of theory and technique. His experience and background is impressive as well.

As a teacher, Remi is very patient and works with you to help you understand music theory and improve your techniques. He is focused on making his students well-rounded musicians and has a long-term view in mind with his teaching style, which I appreciate. His sessions are very casual and have a relaxed feeling.

Overall, I rate him very highly as an instructor and I would certainly recommend him to anyone looking to learn an instrument in which he has proficiency."

"I’m pretty obsessed with Joey. He’s been so helpful and instrumental (ha!) throughout this process, from helping me pick out my guitar to finding extra practice worksheets to send to me outside of our lessons. He is unnaturally patient (seriously, so patient), I don’t feel pressured during our sessions and in fact, I look forward to our time practicing and playing together. Joey is always ready for my many questions, (I know now what a capo is) and has methodical answers that demonstrate his comprehensive knowledge in music theory and playing classical/electrical guitar. He is truly very generous and kind, very supportive and encouraging, which I am sure is already evident from the many positive reviews from students and parents. I am sure he is an amazing mentor to his young students as he is super sweet to his adults who sound like they’re plucking chickens :)
My only regret is not finding Joey sooner. Taking guitar lessons was a huge step for me, one 20 years in the making, and I’m super thankful to have him as my teacher."

"Ahmad is no doubt one of the most humble, approachable, and skillful guitar teacher you can find around the bay area. I have been studying with Ahmad for the past 3 and a half months. Ahmad was not the first music instructor I had. He is however, the best one so far by a large margin. Since the first lesson Ahmad has been extremely professional and organized in his teaching methods. He is able to quickly identify my strengths and weaknesses as a player, tailor his lessons to fit my capabilities, and help me improve in great effectiveness.

I took lessons once a week with Ahmad, and every week I could see noticeable improvements because Ahmad assigned me homework that was fun and challenging but never frustrating. But beyond this, not only have I become a more skilled guitar player, through Ahmad's help I was also able to apply a lot of the theoretical music knowledge in other aspects. When I hear a piece of music, I find that I am slowly able to identify parts of the music, break it down into logical steps, and connect the music to the fretboard of the guitar.

I am a college student with a busy schedule both on and off work, but with Ahmad I was able to greatly improve nonetheless. Thank you Ahmad, I really look forward to coming back to the Bay Area and be your student again."
