I have been teaching bass guitar since 2010. I currently play in a rock band that has opened for major label artists. I have a lot of experience with younger kids(k-5 ba), but have taught adults as old as 50! Any questions feel free to ask.

About Andrew

I started taking guitar lessons at the age of 14, and was hooked ever since. I have learned to play the guitar, bass, and piano in the past 14 years. Currently looking to learn more instruments because, I just love music in general! Music wise, I currently play in a band called Lonewolf. In variou

I have been playing the bass guitar as my primary instrument since 2000. I have performed, recorded and written with a number of successful bands in the past. I am happy to take students at any skill level, and for any style. I believe strongly in integrating music theory and ultimately moving students toward musical self-suffiency, rather than focusing exclusively on learning particular pieces.

Fantastic, patient and kind ukelele instructor. I recommend Ben without reservation.
Thanks Ben!

Ben has been instructing my 2 kids (now aged 11 and 9) in-home for at least 5 years. We started off with piano for the first few years but then switched to a combination of piano and acoustic guitar (half a session dedicated to each instrument).

He is patient, kind, and highly knowledgeable. I clearly see the upward trajectory in my kids' musical capabilities. One of my kids can be difficult to deal with, especially when he is tired, but Ben would mold his approach to the lesson on the spot to keep my kid engaged (e.g., instead of continuing the lesson on the actual piano, he'd switch to a fun music-oriented game).

My approach to teaching involves combining work on technical fundamentals and transcription. I find that starting with detailed technical practice makes the achievement of a player's goals quicker, and transcribing from recordings adds real playing experience and is invaluable for building musical vocabulary.

I'm not currently taking beginner bass students. Please refer to my studio partner Melissa:

Intermediate
Expand use of arpeggios and look into common variations in traditional harmony. Also begin to look into the applications of polyrhythms in bass playing.

Advanced
Break out of basic arpeggios through use of modes and chromaticism. Really push your rhythm to the limit through more advanced polyrhythms and use of asymmetrical meters. Also exploring different types of tone and methods of making sound.

Talented teachers are rare. Like a great coach i sports... the coach doesn’t need to be the top athlete in his field to know how to teach each team member to hone their best abilities, he just has to know and see how to teach you how to get there. Being an outstanding teacher is a great talent all in itself... and that is Jesse. He has that quality and ability to lead, focus and take you where you want to go.

Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

"Paul 's positive attitude and excitement for making music is a major factor in a good instructor. His encouragement and wanting you to learn makes the lessons challenging. If you listen to his expert musical advise, practice what he teaches, you will see a vast improvement in your playing ability and understanding of music. He is patient and has a good temperament that makes learning fun. I know I have challenged him with my rhythm issues but I have progressed to a level in a short time that I am confident in playing with others and enjoy making music. Thanks Paul!"

"Working with Hayes has really improved my bass playing, as well as my overall understanding of music theory/stringed instruments. I have a background in guitar and I compose music for documentaries, etc., but I wanted to play live shows with a friend’s band, and I wanted to learn as quickly as possible. The cool thing is: I think Hayes has helped me improve, all around, as a musician, and as a composer.

Nice guy, versatile, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend him!"

"I am very particular about where I receive my education/instructions. I'm extremely particular about educators/instructors. Be it martial-arts, college institutions, or bass playing. I performed an extensive search for a bass instructor, I am a beginner and I wish to become one of the best. Taking this seriously, I decided to go with Ray upon reading his credentials - I did NOT go wrong by doing so! He is very knowledgeable and he exudes attention to detail from his military experience - that's important to me since I am military. I am confident that I will be held to a high standard, not being allowed to slide by for the sake of time and money - but also having fun and being motivated to progress. I would not consider another instructor. When I am close to the advanced level, I will be considered one of the best bass players because of his teaching. Trust me, if I was not satisfied, I WOULD SAY SO!!!!"

"Ian is a kind and patient teacher, a master of his craft and knows how to communicate musical concepts in a clear manner. I studied Cuban/latin music styles with him as well as theory and technique on the bass guitar. In regards to my latin music focus, the information presented is straight from the source, and he has a wealth of material to dig into. He provided the tools and perspective of a real working musician and tailored my lessons to my level of skill."
