About Jerry
I've been playing and loving music for well more than half a century, now. I got started in second grade when my grandpa brought home a little violin one day, and I've been at it ever since. I was fortunate to take lessons for more than ten years with Carita Page, a teacher who was very warm, encouraging, and caring. I do my best to pass that on to my students in addition to the technique of playing and the theory of music, fascinating as those are.

I feel that playing in groups is very valuable experience for students and gives you a side of music that private lessons alone cannot. I encourage students to look for opportunities to do that. To help provide those opportunities I organized the Cranbury Scout Band, one of very few continuously-operating Scout bands in the country, which I have directed for more that ten years now.
I've also been on the staff of several Jamboree Scout bands.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every student is a different individual and learns in different ways. I try to make lessons as interesting and as useful to each student as I can, and include different things based on your interests and capabilities. Most students find duets are fun, so I include them often - both duets with the same instrument you are studying and duets with other instruments as well so you can learn the sound of such combinations. I encourage you to "play with your ears" as well as your fingers, to become a critical listener to your own performance and to decide whether you sound the way you want to sound.

I encourage students to try different things to become a more rounded musician. This might be something closely related - a flutist trying the piccolo or a clarinetist trying the bass clarinet. Or, it might be further afield - a flutist trying the guitar or a violinist learning movable Do and solfeggio singing. Every aspect of music is good to know.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My music studio is in a separate building - actually a renovated barn about two centuries old. The studio contains a piano and all the other instruments that I teach, and is roomy enough not only for private lessons but for musical groups up to about ten. I have many other resources there as well, including files of music, a small music library, and a computer that we can use for many purposes.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need their instruments, music, and stands.
I bring my own instrument.

All levels all styles. Learn to play with a group and solo and harmonize with anyone..

About John
I am a multi-instrumentalist who has taught for 41 years. I have had both Zakke W and two other rock stars in lessons,. Further, I had a Grammy nominee and a well known comedian and Hollywood Actress, as well as countless music school scholarship students. Many of my students have embarked on performing careers as well as teaching at the school and college level. The lessons are laid back, friendly and above all- helpful. We will study and work on the music of your choice, but, with a slight twist from the traditional, that I incorporate not just playing the song, but to get you the student ready to be able to work out the songs harmony, theory, notation and phrasing on your own. I feel this must be done in order to get a student to be able to perform with others. Lessons should always be about instructing a student to know and utilize e
very musical concept so that they will be able to perform with others.

*** Lesson Details ***
You can expect to be well grounded in theory and being able to play an instrument with solo and chords, comping, etc., in all keys - as well as song structure and song learning. We will analyze all aspects of the song. We will do a song together, then, i will through theory, show the student how to work out a song on their own.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have amps, cables, recorders, books, sheets, etc here at the studio. You need only your instrument and a music writing book.

*** Travel Equipment ***
they must have instrument

*** Specialties ***
All methods are my own. We work through theory and analysis to enable a student to learn how to put a song together and perform it on their own.

The most attentive and knowledgeable music teacher I have ever had. Very aware of student improvements and yet able to make suggestions where they are needed, without any kind of harsh criticism.

John provides all the information - both theory and performance in a very laid back way which leaves the student feeling stress free. He is very realistic as to the expectations of what the student's abilities are now and when "tentatively" they can expect to achieve a level of playing.

He does his job. It is up to me to do mine! Having fun and learning in a very short time. Not easy - but practice, practice, practice.

My son just had his first lesson with Christian and was very happy. He has been playing in the school band for a year and needs some help prepping for next year. We emailed the music he has to learn to Christian and after some warm up and exercises to assess my son, they dove straight into the etude he was struggling with.
We weren’t sure about the online format, but it worked just fine and we won’t have to drag a full size tuba around town anymore!

Since I started playing at age 11, I have been fortunate enough to study with some prolific musicians including: UNT sax professor Brad Lelei, Grammy nominated saxophonist Myron Walden, and world renowned bass player Reggie Workman. I currently study saxophone at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC. In my lessons we'll have fun while focusing on your goals. Through practice and the materials I provide, you will notice a dramatic increase in your musical abilities. See you soon!

About Alexander
At my lessons, I use the experience and knowledge that I have acquired from over 13 years of playing and studying music to teach students how to take their playing to the next level and reach their goals.

A recent graduate of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary music, Alex finds the best way to learn is in a fun, stress-free environment, where the instructor pays close attention to the needs of their students. I believe in cultivating an appreciation for jazz and other styles of music, paying close attention to detail, and building a strong foundation through focused practice.

I figure out exactly where you are in your technique and knowledge of music and of the instrument. Then, I start teaching from there! For me, the goal of lessons should be the goal of the student, and I do my best to honor that!

I also encourage my advanced Jr. High and High School students to audition for various honor groups throughout California such as SCSBOA, CBDA, etc. With my background in these groups, I can effectively help my students prepare for the best audition they can do.

About Eric
Hi! I'm Eric, a Saxophonist, Composer, Singer, and Teacher that was born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, writing music for as long as I can remember, and singing since I was in elementary school. I play for a variety of groups in Los Angeles, and sometimes perform in L.A. and surrounding areas at venues such as the LightHouse, Saint Rocke, Avalon, The Mint, and the Baked Potato.

I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. I give students assignments to work on, not only so they don't forget what we talk about, but also so they can also expand upon the concepts given in lessons, (which familiarizes them more with the information). I look forward to helping you unlock your potential!

We will go through a method book to go through the fundamentals of playing sax and will supplement it with ear training and music theory. We will learn any song that you want to! From a TV show, video game, movie, or anything else as it is very important to have fun with what you are playing. We will play duets and have a great time while becoming a better musician!

About Matt
I attended West Chester University from 2011-2015 and graduated with my bachleor's in music education. I performed in the marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, jazz ensembles, various trumpet ensembles, and a brass quintet. One of my trumpet ensembles made it to the semifinals in the National Trumpet Competition. I backed up various world famous trumpet artists during the International Trumpet Guild Conference at Valley Forge in 2014 such as Bobby Shew, Randy Brecker, Tine Thing Helseth, Canadian Brass, and many others. I took lessons from Robert Skoniczin and Jean Christophe Dobrzelewski during my time at WCU.

I can teach any style that you are interested in and can take students of all ages. I believe it is important to have a good musical foundation so we will go over music theory as well in lessons. I have extensive experie
nce teaching trumpet, guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, and saxophone. We will play whichever style of music you prefer. Lessons will be fun!

Success in playing any saxophone demands breath control. That's the first ingredient in tone production. And tone production for each type of saxophone is different. Then, arpeggios and scales and intervals, to learn finger coordination and the shapes of sounds. I create individual assignments depending on each student's need.

About Dave
Thank you for visiting my page! You've come to the right place. Over the past several years, I've helped dozens upon dozens of music students of all ages and skill levels improve their skills at playing saxophone, clarinet, and flute. Along with basic theory, tone production, music reading, and intonation, I teach jazz and beginning improvisation, concert band, blues, soul, and R&B.

My school-age students win chair placements, place well in auditions, and some win awards. Some examples: recently, one of my sax students won the M.J. Brown Family Performing Arts Music Award, and an 11-year-old flute student won both Most Improved Jazz Student and Outstanding Achievement in his orchestra class.

My adult learners have fun re-connecting with their instrument of choice. Most students have been with me for one to three years.

Students
thrive on structure and goals, and I have developed a unique approach to practicing that gets results. I teach all ages and skill levels to play saxophone, clarinet, and flute. I cover many styles, from concert band, to jazz, blues, soul, and R&B, theory, tone, articulation, and more. I am experienced with preschoolers to middle school-age children, high school and college ages, nervous adult beginners, and special needs students.

I recommend the following lesson structure:
• First-time beginners: one 30-minute lesson per week
• Older beginners to intermediate students: one 45 minute lesson per week
• Advanced students: 60 minutes once each week

My approach to lessons is to support a competition-free environment where every level of player can feel comfortable, have fun, and make fast and steady progress. Students are also encouraged to participate in all-ages jam sessions, and at our recitals.

I work from my home studio on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Centrally located in La Mesa, my studio is just a few minutes east of Qualcomm Stadium. Plenty of free parking, and parents are encouraged to sit in during lessons.

On Thursdays, I'm in my La Jolla studio on Girard at La Jolla Music.

My own teaching experience includes private post-secondary, SDSU’s College of Extended Studies, and I’ve facilitated and run woodwind master classes at Grossmont and Valhalla High Schools.
