Hi! I'm Michael Shingo C. and I am a violinist, pianist, and composer.
In my teaching, I emphasize efficient, goal-oriented practice, and provide a strong technical foundation while always keeping musicality and expression in mind. I encourage my students to develop problem-solving skills that will ultimately allow them to create their own interpretations about a piece of music. I believe that each student has a different learning style and, with this knowledge, I design a program of study specifically for them.
Learning music is all about tackling technical or musical problems in many different ways until we find an approach that works for you. As multi-instrumentalist who also writes music, I can offer many different perspectives on a single issue and draw from a wide range of knowledge that serves me in my daily creative pursuits. ~

Beginning students can expect to be given the tools and techniques to build a fantastic foundation for their violin study. This excellent foundation will not only prepare for the technique and skill acquired in an intermediate level, but be able to play their instrument with a beautiful tone. Intermediate students can expect to build upon their skills as well as learn new techniques and further develop their musicality.

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.
My husband and I were both delighted at how much progress our daughters (at the time aged 6 and 4) made with the violin under Jillâs careful guidance. Jill is very good with children, and in each lesson she gently engaged her studentsâ attention on the music and on learning new techniques. The result was that both of our daughters were focused and made real progress every single week.
We found that the Suzuki method of learning has worked very well for our daughters. Both of them (now aged 10 and 8) have gone on to play several in junior violin ensembles and take real pleasure and pride in their playing. They love music, and much of that is down to the wonderful early grounding they received from Jill."

I came to Elizabeth as an adult student with a few years of experience in playing, but with a lot of doubts about whether I could advance. I'd previously taken lessons at the Music Institute of Chicago (Evanston campus), but I didn't like how they did things over there. They are extremely overpriced for what they offer. In my first lesson there, my teacher wouldn't even let me pick up the bow and she made me play Twinkle Twinkle over and over again...
Elizabeth made playing very relaxing. Her approach is just to attack the material without any hesitations. And if you make a mistake, just do it again. She let me pick out the repertoire, which made me excited to play, and offered great recommendations on material that would help my playing. Sometimes I was too ambitious and she'd be the first to point out that maybe I wasn't ready for a piece just yet. Then she'd recommend something else that would help me get there.
Elizabeth teaches from her home and it's pretty easy to get to by train, bus, or car."
