About Paul
Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand. He works with piano, composition and vocal performance students of all levels and styles, which include classical, jazz, blues, Tango, and Broadway.  His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

I started playing guitar at age 11, taking lessons at the local music studio in Hackensack, NJ. I became heavily influenced by The Beatles after hearing their music and as a teenager played in local rock groups, having some success being in the bands Jona's Ark and The Yorkshire Pudding, opening for artists Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, John Mayall and backing up Gary U.S. Bonds. I started playing piano at 19 when I took a group piano class in college. I attended Berklee College of Music and studied guitar with Bill Leavitt and Pat Metheny. That's where I started learning about all the great jazz artists from Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery to name a few. While at Berklee I also developed a love of the classical guitar and it's repertoire. After Berklee, I became a freelance musician and played guitar for
The Drifters, Del Shannon, The Shirelles, The Marvelettes, The Crystals, Chuck Berry, Leslie Gore and believe it or not Tiny Tim. I played guitar, harmonica, mandolin and banjo in productions of: Hair, Tommy, Big River, Fiddler On The Roof and Grease. I composed my own music and performed and co-wrote with others who also wrote their own music. I have always taught private guitar lessons as far back as I can remember. One notable student was Stevie Wonder's son Keita who I taught for 2 years at Stevie's home in northern New Jersey as well as CBS News Anchor Charles Osgood's daughter Annie. Currently I teach 20 private guitar students a week.. From 1994 to 2000, I was the guitarist for The Royal Scam (a Steely Dan Tribute) and during that period I was hired by Hal Leonard Music Corp. to write a guitar transcription book called "The Best of Steely Dan". I was also hired by Brother International Corp. to compose and record a national radio jingle called "P-Touch", with Corey Glover from the rock band Living Colour doing the vocal tracks.
In 1996 I went to William Paterson University to obtain my teacher certification in music education. After the 9/11 attacks, I co-wrote and arranged "America Home Of The Free". The song was used to raise thousands of dollars for the victims of The World Trade Center attacks. Presently I divide my time between teaching, which I enjoy as much as performing and playing guitar with a jazz quartet called ....and All That Jazz, whose 2005 CD "Reflections" was recorded, mixed and mastered in my home based 24 track recording studio in northern NJ. I am also involved in a mandolin / classical guitar project called Music Of The Ages and perform with a 10 piece band called Epic Soul.
As a teacher I am very patient with students and enjoy helping them reach their own musical goals. I emphasize knowing the basics and encourage students to study music theory and basic reading of standard notation. I always ask my students to bring in songs they want to learn as a way to motivate them to practice more.

*** Lesson Details ***
GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. After 6 months students will be able to play a 12 bar blues and improvise with the pentatonic and blues scales as well as learn moveable scales and chords and apply these to songs.

PIANO: I also start young piano students with the Suzuki method so they can play some five finger familiar melodies in a short time period. Then we progress to reading notation and eventually adding chord accompaniment to melodies. I use the Faber piano method for reading standard notation.

Students need a good quality and proper size guitar (for very young students) a music stand (for their home use) a foot stool, a metronome and books I assign along with an 8 1/2" X 11" blank manuscript book and a folder with side pockets to hold handout sheets. Piano students need their own instrument and the above materials minus the foot stool.

I've been taking lessons from Rob for 2 years now. He is a great teacher, classically trained, but very knowledgeable in all genres. I have learned a great deal and being taught the correct way. He pushes you to do better each and every week.

"The King of Instruments" The piano earned this title for a number of reasons including it's range, the piano covers the full spectrum of any instrument in the orchestra, it's ability to produce melody and accompaniment at the same time. It is also the largest musical instrument (excluding the pipe organ), most versatile and one of the most interesting.
I have been "tickling the ivories" since the age of 6, so I feel very comfortable and relaxed in front of the piano, and I hope that I can help you feel the same.

About Anthony
My life revolves around music in all of its forms. I have studied piano since the age of 6 while singing ever since I knew how to make sound. Throughout my lifetime, I have been taught by some of the most influential teachers, and it is my goal to become one in your lifetime.

I began participating in theater at an early age. Once In high school, I had my first job as a Drama Teacher at Saltworks Young Actors Studio where I taught Improvisation, Monologues and Musical Theater to students ages 6 through 16.

I went to Point Park University where I received a BA in Musical Theater in 2006. Throughout College, I was also teaching voice and piano lessons.

As an actor, I have enjoyed many successes. In 2007, I joined the NY Public Theater’s three night, 40th anniversary concert of HAIR at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.
The following summer, I was a member of the cast in a full mounted production in their 2008 Shakespeare in the Park season. Shortly after the production transferred to Broadway, the cast performed at the 2009 Tony Awards and took home the Tony for Best Revival.

During the run of Hair, I was entered into the Broadway Beauty Pageant, where male cast members from different Broadway shows compete to win the title of "Mr. Broadway". After competing in Talent and Interview; I was crowned Mr. Broadway 2009.

In 2010, I journeyed across the Atlantic with the production to perform HAIR in London’s West End. It was such a joy to have the influence of UK culture and experience the best of their Music and Theater in my time living in London.

Since moving back to America, I began teaching full time and have been a first hand witness to all of my students growing and flourishing throughout their process. It makes me so proud of them!!

I believe music has the power to be the most fun thing in the world, while at the same time, the most challenging thing. No matter what age, it's never to early or late to open your heart and mind to its fullest potential.

It was truly a pleasure meeting Concetta for my first ever violin lesson. It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

Very patient and beyond knowledgeable! I haven't done anything with TakeLessons before and my online class was hosted via skype so it was easy to get connected and learn at my own pace. Hello,

My name is Elana. I'm a professional violinist and enjoy teaching students of all ages and levels. My students have ranged from ages 4-64. Their goals have ranged from pure enjoyment to those considering a career in music. My goal is to help each student play to the best of their abilities and for them to enjoy the lessons. Violin is my passion, which comes through in my enthusiasm during lessons. I am gentle and patient but also honest and very particular about what to look for when practicing.

I take great pride in teaching the Russian method. Not only is the technique I teach used by the best violinists of all time, it also emphasizes efficient and correct use of the body to avoid injury and develop a tone with richness and projection.

What I look for in a student is a commitment to practicing every day. It's an
adjustment in the beginning for many, but once established simply becomes part of the day, like brushing your teeth. Over time, students hear improvements from practicing consistently and this creates a very positive experience. The violin becomes a source of joy and confidence.

Violin lessons help develop skills such as coordination and focus at the highest level, persistence, confidence, creativity, patience, and many other "life" skills whose benefits extend far beyond music lessons. Many people who achieve success in a career outside music later in life often credit their music lessons as having been key in that process.

As far as my musical background, I received my music degree from Rutgers University, where I was a recipient of the Marryott Music Scholarship. Upon graduation I freelanced as a violinist in the NYC metro area. My major teachers include Neil Weintrob and Lewis Kaplan.

As a teacher I have 20 years of experience. I've worked in various programs and currently teach violin and viola lessons at a local private school, in addition to running a private studio of violin and piano students. I have been studying music for well over a decade. I have had some amazing teachers/mentors along the way. Why Misha stands out as the best among them, is because he is able to get the best out of his students. He knows how to push you to be better without feeling like you're being pushed. He's extremely encouraging. He can immediately identify where your weaknesses are and give you tools/exercises to correct them. For me, piano is not even my primary instrument, however, the growth I've achieved from his lessons have equally applied to my other instruments. If you are looking to be a better musician, let alone pianist, you are lucky to have found Misha.

I have been studying with Misha for a few year now. He will tailor the lesson based on your skill level. You will feel some improvement in no time. The lesson is fun but will help your eliminate your weakness and bring you to the next step. You can pick your own song and he will arrange the song and play with you. Misha can play drum along with your piano or you can comp and he will show you how to improvise. Just try him a few lessons and you will thank me for it.

Misha is a tremendous piano teacher. He is proficient for those students who desire to learn classical or jazz music.
I have studied with Misha for many years and constantly feel my piano improves. My overall music education benefits from the lessons as well.
Misha has a great attention to detail, can point out any mistakes you are making easily, and is great at making the music relatable. He also makes the experience quite fun, often jumping on the drums or singing along.

Growing up, I really wanted to learn how to play the piano. My parents took me to many piano teachers and schools but I wasn’t learning what I wanted to learn and eventually, I got bored and quit altogether.

After more almost two decades, I decided I wasn’t going to let my younger self down so I taught myself how to play the instrument through courses online and have been playing since then.

I am a classically trained pianist and Carnegie Mellon graduate. I have studied with renowned and respected pianists and educators, including Norman Krieger, Tereza Lee, Sergey Schepkin and Ralph Zitterbart. My goal is to pass on what I have learned from them, creating a synthesized approach that addresses your or your child’s needs. Moreover, I want to help you or your child build a foundation for playing the piano well, which involves learning fundamentals such as note reading, music theory, ear training and technique. Finally, and most importantly, I want you or your child to have fun playing the piano and making music!

About Josh
Josh Levitin began studying piano at age 16, an age generally considered late for a new piano student. Almost immediately, his teachers found that he had a natural ability to play the instrument at a high level. Tereza Lee, at the time a graduate piano student at the Manhattan School of Music, was Josh’s primary piano teacher and mentor, and helped him prepare for college, university and conservatory auditions. At age 18, after playing the piano for only two years, Josh received offers of admission from six conservatory programs to study piano performance, most notably from the Manhattan School of Music and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Josh chose to attend Carnegie Mellon, where in 2009 he was one of only three piano students to gain admission to the University’s School of Music. That same year, Josh became a Hadar Scholar,
receiving financial support from the Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation to pursue his undergraduate music studies.

Josh graduated from Carnegie Mellon with University and College Honors. He also received a merit scholarship to study with pianist Sandra Shen at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, N.C., where he studied for three summers, and performed solo and collaborative piano repertoire. While there, he studied further with Indiana University Jacobs School of Music professor, pianist Norman Krieger. Josh’s teachers at Carnegie Mellon were Sergey Schepkin and Ralph Zitterbart.

Josh is currently on the faculty of Church Street School for Music and Art in Manhattan, where he teaches piano, and Dan’s Music Studio in West Orange, N.J, where, in addition to piano, he uses music as therapy to help students with disabilities.

Josh also offers private piano lessons. Josh reaches students in New York City, and Essex and Passaic Counties in New Jersey.

Josh is a great instructor for our daughter. He puts a tremendous amount of thought into presenting his lessons in a way she can learn and absorb them.

We have seen how learning music has had such a positive impact on her life, beyond the technical skills of playing the piano and we attribute that to Josh's patience and flexibility.
