Students can expect to discover or re-discover their love for music and and their own natural musical inclinations. Many students report an increased sense of joy and possibility in their own lives. Curriculum depends on level of student, but is focused on being able to write songs, develop comfort and ease in playing style, and accessing creativity and originality in approach. After 3 to 6 months working with me, most students can feel comfortable calling themselves a songwriter!

About Matthew

I have been playing professionally for over 30 years and have taught for over 10. I am proficient on keyboards, guitar, bass, ukelele, as well as lead and harmony vocals and songwriting. My focus is on developing your musical intuition through ear training, and accessing the music within. I have a

I had a one off single lesson with Matthew, I was only in New York for a couple days and was lucky enough to get a sing writing session with him. He gave some great insight and valid techniques towards song writing. He was easy going and very friendly. Would certainly recommend.
Sami
Matt is an awesome instructor. Unlike a traditional guitar teacher, Matt understands what his students want to play, making lessons much more interesting and making practicing much easier. I've had a few lessons with Matt and have learned more in those lessons that I could have ever learned by myself. Highly recommend.
Diana
Just had my first piano lesson with Matthew today. He is a truly great artist and instructor who will teach you not just about the playing technique but about the music theory/history behind it. Would definitely recommend!

About Joseph

Joey aka CelloJoe is an anomaly in the world of cellists. By combining cello with beatboxing, he has created a unique genre: Classical Hip Hop.  CelloJoe records live on stage with a loop pedal and produces intricate tapestries of harmony, melody, and rhythm. His beatboxing (vocal percussion

Joe was able to work with my daughter to approach some very complex material (using Abelton live to live loop and edit her songs) at a pace and with a vocabulary and tone that completely defused an otherwise intimidating situation. His calm, steady manner spiced with just the right touch of dry wit and his keen ear for a mean beat kept the lessons fun and very productive. Joey's not just a fantastic and unique musician and teacher, however, he's a great person and a fantastic influence to have in your life.

Joey is the best! A lesson from Joey is always a highlight of the week. I'd be surprised if you don't feel the same based on his talent, his warmth, his humor, and his intelligence.
Courtney
My 10 year old son has loved his piano lessons with Joey. We had excellent in-person cello lessons in the past, and the video piano lessons have been just as effective. Joey has several camera angles set up in his home so my son can see Joey's hands on the keyboard in real time during the lesson. We get a Zoom link for each visit and a recording of the visit afterwards, which helps with practicing during the week. I highly recommend Joey as a patient and talented instructor! The lessons have been a great activity / distraction for my active son during shelter in place. It's a win-win!

"Jan is wonderful to work with!

I worked with Jan thru skype while living in Australia on my songwriting and singing, she is a joy to work with really caring and helped me challenge myself to become a better songwriter. There were even days I woke up at 4am Australian time just to work with her! The whole experience was great! I then had the pleasure to work with her in person to record some of the songs we had been working on as I traveled to LA for a few weeks. Her techniques really helped me bring out certain emotions and I can't express how much I enjoy working with Jan."

Thanks to him I've come very far in a short amount of time."

"I have gone through three to four teachers in my musical journey and none of them have ever compared to Peter. He never fails to astound me with his composing, playing, and production abilities.
I have been his student for about three and a half years now and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon. I look forward to my lessons because he makes every second exciting and valuable. Whether he is teaching piano, technique, songwriting, theory or voice, his passion radiates through and is extremely contagious.
He has not only substantially improved my playing and technique, but also introduced me to songwriting, which has immensely changed my life and I owe all my success to him.
Peter is not only my piano teacher, but my role model, mentor and big brother. He has always been there to pick me up and regain my confidence after the performances that weren't my best. Being a teenager, it's easy to doubt my talents, but Peter has always been the one to remind me of my abilities and send me in the right direction.
He is the most dedicated and patient man I know. He is always willing to work around my schedule, even though he lives an hour or two away from me. He never becomes upset, or at least he never shows it, when I butcher his compositions or don't get a piece right the first time.
I am overjoyed and blessed to have found such an amazing piano teacher and mentor."

"Gary is extremely knowledgable and a great communicator of complex musical ideas and concepts. He has a way of breaking things down into "easy to understand" bite size pieces. This allows anyone to comprehend and master the rules of music in a third of the time other teachers have taken to teach the same information. He is professional, personable and an all around great teacher .
He has taught my daughter as well. We study songwriting together.
I highly recommend Gary!"

The Anatomy of a Hit Pop Song [Infographic]

When you're learning how to write a song, looking at how other songs are structured can be a great place to start. Like looking at a map before you go on a roadtrip, checking out the basic elements of songs you love gives you a sense of how they were written and what you need to do to write a song of your own. If analyzing all your favorite songs sounds like a daunting task (it is), you're in luck. The Billboard Experiment wanted to know if there was a formula that could determine which songs …
