Mandarin is a musical language that's quickly taking over the world, you'll have lots of fun learning this language.
I was born and raised in Singapore, and am fluent in both English and Mandarin. I can read, write and speak at a bilingual, native proficiency in English and professional proficiency in Mandarin.
I'll teach you depending on your level and age. For kids, I use fun, interactive storytelling. For the adults, I'll dive into concepts like the origins of the language, nuances of the intonations, all the while teaching you vocabulary and sentence structure. I'll also adjust my lessons based on your feedback, your learning style and your goals!
I conduct group lessons for young children, which I am unable to state on my profile/list of services here. You can send me a message if you are interested in them!
I believe EVERYONE should have the opportunity to learn music, especially children, in a fun and enjoyable way! As someone who grew up around music (my mother is a music teacher!) I wish to give that chance to others.
I started playing the piano at around the age of four, and helped out as a substitute teacher at my mother's music school back in Singapore while in High School. I left shortly after to pursue music at Berklee College of Music, where I graduated summa cum laude in August 2013 with a Bachelor's of Music in Piano Performance and Contemporary Writing and Production!
My students range from as 3.5 years old, to the grandmother of a couple of my students. I wo
rk mostly with children, but have a handful of adult beginner students I work with as well.
Everyone is different - and I personally take the time and effort to develop and customize my lessons and materials for each student. I'll push you (a little!), to make you realize just how much you can do!
Music is an all-rounded experience. Not only can I offer you a chance to learn how to play different styles of piano, from jazz to pop to classical, but I can also teach you how to write your own songs, arrange them, and perhaps (if you like) record them!
A very energetic and enthusiastic instructor. Tammy came very well prepared for her lesson and brought readily custom-made materials that make the lesson very smooth. Our son is really excited about his piano lessons again!!
Thanks a lot!

Excellent teacher. Was very impressed on how well the piano classes were explained in detail. My 6 years old learned a lot in her first piano class! My daughter came out super excited and motivated!
Students can expect to set goals for each week and to be given assignments to practice in between lessons.
Larry is a native of Taiwan, and speaks English & Mandarin fluently. He teaches Mandarin Chinese in any of the boroughs of New York City, online, or at his home location. He prepares each lesson and holds students accountable for practicing before each lesson. The Better Chinese method is one method that he uses for young beginners, and he also has an online curriculum for students of any age to practice.
Larry started tutoring Mandarin Chinese while he was still a student at the BYU-Idaho in 2007 and has continued teaching after moving to NYC.
I am a native Chinese speaker. I can speak five languages. I have years of languages (Chinese & English) teaching experience. I am certified to teach in public schools in China. I believe interaction and immersion are effective approaches to learn a new language. Learning a new language with a native speaker is ten times efficient than learning from language apps. Lessons are customized. Communicative language and Chinese culture would be prioritized while making lesson plans. To learn a new language, it's not simply about the language itself. The more you know about the culture, the better you appreciate the language.
I have 10 years of language teaching experience. I have learned eight languages and dialects over the years in China and overseas. I started tutoring Chinese students (age 8-16) English and Chinese in 2009 and I founded my first summer camp in China in 2010. Students who had registered for my summer camp increased from 25 in 2010 to 86 in 2016. I've gained very valuable skills and perspectives in teaching, not just as a teacher, but also as a student--students are my teachers too--I've learned there are always places that I can improve and better help them learn languages. Students' "needs" and "wants" are prioritized. It helps students achieve their goals while combined with students' "lacks" in lesson planning. Students should get involved in the lesson planning process.
Interest is the best teacher. When I taught non-native Chinese
speakers (in China, South Korea and the U.S) Chinese, it seemed it stimulated their curiosity and interest to learn Chinese when cultural elements were introduced--such as characters' origin and visualization, historical contexts and cultural traditions. I hope that approach can also bring you an enjoyable experience learning a new language!
To help you be able to use Chinese, our language learning is mainly through interactive and communicative approaches. Talk! Talk! Talk! Please don't be shy. It's okay to make mistakes. Learning from mistakes is also a very effective way to learn a new language. We can make more contextualized dialogues based on whatever textbook you are using now. Or we can produce functional conversation based on everyday topics that you are interested. Lesson plans are customized and they can be flexible.
Ready to get on the boat and sail on the sea of Chinese? :)

I had my first lesson today in Mandarin as a novice. Lulu is obviously an excellent tutor. She is organized, knowledgeable about the physical processes of phonetics, and extremely encouraging. I can not wait to go deeper into the Chinese language with her as my tutor. I strongly recommend taking lessons from her.
Practice listening and speaking Mandarin Chinese skills with a native speaker, a former radio host, a 20 years of classroom teacher in a variety topics that relate to current events in the world. Reading exercises are equally emphasized in the lessons learning. Writing skills will be embedded in email writing or message exchanging. Students are encouraged to explore their learning needs and learning interests. In other words, the teacher tailors the curriculum and meet learners' learning desire in every possible way.
I gained my BA in Chinese Language and Culture, first MA in Chinese Language and Literature, second MA in Education (from Bucknell University, PA). I have been teaching American students, from kindergarteners to adults, for the past 19 years at a variety of schools settings including colleges/universities, private high schools, public middle/high schools, and summer immersion language programs. I am the Master teacher for the New England New Teachers' Association to train all the new Mandarin Chinese teachers for the independent schools in the New England area. My former students went to Middleburry College, Swarthmore College, Oberlin College... and some of them had become Ambassadors of America. I am a sophisticated Mandarin Chinese teacher who has many interests and the love of teaching the language and passion on language learning
Grew up in China and graduated from one of the best universities in China. Learning Mandarin is more about learning Chinese culture than the words. Chinese is a very logical language and you will have a lot of fun learning with me.
Before I came to New York, I taught English at a local training center in Shanghai,China.
I started teaching Mandarin to a few Canadians and Americans when I was in university more than 10 years ago. And we still keep in touch now. Learning language is more about learning the culture. I am fascinated by the differences and similarities between Chinese culture and American Culture. And discovering those differences or similarities will create a big curiosity which will be very beneficial and effective when you learn the language.
In fact, many people don't know or never notice that Chinese is a very logical language and full of Chinese traditional wisdom. Even you don't agree China is becoming more and and more influential in the world, learning some Chinese culture and oriental philosophy will be an interesting journey.
Trust me, I will be your most loved Chinese teacher.
I am a professional cellist with more than 20 years of performing experience and teaching professionally for more than 10 years. Now I am the principal cellist of The Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra. In 2017, I presented and produced my own charity recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall with not only classic music with piano but
also trios with Chinese traditional instruments for the world premiere pieces which composed by the famous Chinese composers. All the proceeds of the concert are donated to UNICEF. My charity concerts tour spread across more than a dozen states and cities of the US. I have been interviewed and reported by newspapers, magazines, news, TV programs and other media at home and abroad.
I was born in China and finished my ninth grade there. The school is quite prestigious in terms of academic level. I then finished high school in the United States and earned my Bachelor Degree in Chemistry and Violin Performance at Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio. My fluency in both languages will make learning Mandarin much easier and more fun.
About Jerry (Zheyang)
Hello! I am Jerry Xiong. I just graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory with Bachelor Degrees in violin performance and chemistry. Currently, I am studying violin performance at USC Thornton School of Music.
Having been the concertmaster of both Oberlin Orchestra and the Colorado College Summer Music Festival Orchestra, I believe that classical music has always been a passion for me. Recent awards include winner of New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition of 2014, Winner of Oberlin Conservatory Concerto Competition of 2017-18, and the semi-finalist of Ann and Charles Eisemann International Young Artist Competition of 2018. This year, I have been selected as one of the four concertmasters of the Thornton Symphony.
I believe that my experience and my passion for music will be able to help both improve one's techni
que as well as staying passionate about music. Having met numerous world's greatest violin pedagogues, being able to share my music with you is a treat for both you and me.
For my potential student who would like to learn Chinese, my fluency in both languages will be able to help you learn the language with fun and ease. Learning Chinese is not just learning a language, one will be able to feel the Chinese culture and the beauty of this language.
Jerry X. is so passionate on teaching, love to help students on problem-solving, and continuously progressing as a teacher on teaching methods.
Many good and gifted players are not necessarily the best teacher, but Mr. Xiong is really someone who can teach you HOW to practice and to love your music!
Perfect for beginners or anyone wants to pursue better musicality! I love my violin now.
