My Philosophy - Students First - My main goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere in which the student can proceed at his/her own pace. Whether you are looking to perform, do studio work, audition, be a songwriter or just learn a few songs for your own enjoyment. I am happy to create a custom program for you. I believe the most fundamental place to begin is with theory. Through a creative, relaxed and patient environment I introduce students to the rudiments of music on 2 simp
le pages. Theory helps you to understand song writing, ear training, and how to build chords and scales. I try to get you to hear the music so you can improvise better and also take songs and solos off CD's yourself, therefore becoming more self reliant to teach yourself in the future.

My students bring in the songs they like and by strengthening their ears and learning to apply theory points, I show them how they can figure out the song by ear the exact way it was written and played by the original artist. Therefore you can play with the CD as if you are a band member. This builds confidence to perform and record in any band at any level. As stated above, I will also customize a program for those interested in learning songs without the theory work so they can use the music to play songs as a nice relaxing past time.

Course Descriptions- Rock, Blues and Funk: You will quickly learn how chords and scales are developed using a condensed theory set up chart. This quick immersion in theory helps you to build a strong foundation while at the same time playing and enjoying the music. I have found in my years of teaching that making theory and music interactive from the beginning makes it more enjoyable to learn. You will learn all scales, chords, techniques, rhythms, and ear training specific to these styles of music. The advantage to this Teaching Format , especially in terms of solo scale playing, to progress much further and faster than if you were just learning how to play the songs. We then go straight to the CD's of your choice and learn from the best, the artists you've admired. Whether to learn their rhythms, solo lines, songwriting formats, melodies and harmonies, and all by ear. As a soloist, you will know enough about scales and chord theory and how to blend the two so you can make the guitar talk yourself. Still for those who want a quick song approach, we can get into playing a song and review its theory relevance when desired. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)

Folk, Country and Bluegrass: As stated above, I begin with the condensed theory chart to understand chords of all types. Here we study rhythms of the above music forms including ballad, country blues and country folk. Through use of songs you enjoy, we study how the music was written and performed. You will learn in this course how to play music you love as it was done by the original artist. We begin with listening to the original soundtrack. Through the use of the ear we dissect the song and learn it in its original form piece by piece. This will also help set up the study of song writing. Understanding how artists Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Transposing songs to fit your vocal range and Arranging songs to bring out their best. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)

Finger Style: Great fun for those who would rather not sing but still want to play full songs on guitar. This style of guitar will blend the techniques of traditional finger picking artists along with our own on improvisation over twelve bar blues progressions and songs. You will learn to play all the parts, bass, melody, harmony and inside chords with your picking hand. Also how to create chord/melody arrangements from any melody.

Classical: Classical guitar is taught through developing standard reading skills, finger exercises and scale work while learning beautiful pieces at the same time.

Song Writing: Song writing always begins with an introduction to theory. From there you will study works from other artists to see how they Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and how they use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Choose a song and artist that you enjoy and we will dissect the piece learning the above techniques.

Children's Studies: The study of music has proven to enhance a child's concentration, mathematical and reading skills, self confidence, performance skills in all walks of life whether its playing the guitar, to public speaking, to playing sports.

I agree with everything everyone else says about Albert so I don't want to repeat. I started with him when I retired (bucket list litem) and Albert is very patient and helpful ( as well as accommodating my uneven scheduling). You get into songs you like right away and learn technique within the songs as you go. He'll give you as much theory as you want. Shortly after you start with Albert you'll feel like your learning/ playing with a friend... I highly recommend him!

The reason Albert is the best instructor ever is that he is really gifted at his craft and at teaching. So many people can do one or the other. Albert makes it fun and instills a desire to practice, and balances theory/performance goals. He is college educated in music and will teach the fundamentals-having said that, he would make a great teacher for the advanced player as well.

Finally, he is the most patient teacher I know, a plus for you and/or your child. I would be pleased to talk personally to anyone considering Albert for lessons.

My upcoming engagement includes singing the role of Gilda in Rigoletto and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera in 2018 in New York City.

Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 11 years. I would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. I just signed up with Asuka a few weeks ago while she was traveling internationally for her performance. Because she was away, we did online lessons. At first I was skeptical because of the time difference and the quality etc. but she has very much experience not only teaching, but with online lessons. My son has an international singing competition coming up and Asuka is not only preparing him for the competition, but also for what expect from judges and how to mentally perceive the performance. Although she travels and maintains her successful career, she is able to put everyone ounce of her expertise into helping my son from where ever she is. When she came back to NYC she also worked personally with him as well. She is the best teacher and vocal coach we have had to date.

About Alessandro
From the age of 6, I received lessons in piano and music theory / ear training at the Brooklyn College Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts.  In the early 1990's, hearing legendary musicians on former radio station 104 WNCN made an indelible impression on me and inspired a long-term passion.  My sensibility for jazz and popular music also developed during this period, since 101.9, the "smooth jazz" station, was also listened to at home.  I accompanied the Stuyvesant High School choir until my graduation in 2000.   In January of that year, I performed the third movement of Sergei Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto with the school's symphony orchestra.  The then-president of the Stuyvesant Parents Association praised the "extraordinary performance" in an issue of the PA newsletter.  Starting in August 2000, I attended Columbia Univer
sity where I continued my piano lessons as a student in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.  Wishing to fully commit myself to music through the piano, I transferred to Manhattan School of Music in September 2002. There, I studied classical piano performance with Donn-Alexander Feder (interesting name, no?) and Arkady Aronov. 

I have taught beginner and intermediate level private piano lessons to adults and children since January 2009.  Throughout January 2010, I accompanied a student production of the musical _You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown_ at The Women's Leadership School of Astoria, Queens.   In May of that year, I worked with Jermaine Lewis on a concert of his musical, _Spiritual Heritage_, staged at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Bronx.  These collaborations developed my feel for popular music (including improvisation,) which I enjoy conveying to students who prefer to learn piano through that style.  My appreciation of contemporary music has also benefited through my activities as music transcriber (someone who notates music on paper or computer by ear) for the lead singer of 3D2, a contemporary pop group that has performed at Madison Square Garden as well as international venues.

I adapt my teaching to how you learn and your aspirations, whether the direct goal is to delve into the world of piano playing, an art that nurtures emotional awareness and self-discipline, channel your favorite artists from the keys, or learn to listen inwardly - to your own music. I am a patient teacher who believes that you can succeed when the instructor is passionate about the subject (I am!) New musical and technical concepts are best introduced when you are ready to understand them.  Moreover, music and technique are two integrated aspects of the same picture - even when practicing a passage to develop efficiency of the physical gesture required, music is still being created!

Once I have gauged the development of your playing (from absolute beginner to anything beyond,) we would work on pieces and techniques that gradually take you to the next "stage of development."  I use quotation marks because musical growth is really a continuous process with no actual discreet stages. "Level" is merely an idea that helps teachers hone the content and delivery of their instruction.  In addition, I am flexible when it comes to following the sequence of pieces in repertoire guides.  In the order they appear, they don't always support the student's growth.  Lessons include theory concepts as a way to aid your aural understanding.  I can locate pieces of your choosing, and, if helpful, teach them in a more manageable (but still musically interesting) format.  Learning preferred music by ear is also a possibility.

I encourage regular practicing each week, while helping you strive for a balance between reviewing what was covered from one lesson to the next and your other important commitments.  In this manner, I hope to respect both the lesson time and you as a whole person.

Alessandro is a great teacher and very thorough. He sincerely loves music and is very well rounded in his appreciation. He is not only a master pianist, but also a vocal coach and well versed organist. I myself went to four years of music school and can still learn so much from this Manhattan school of music alumni. I play live constantly and I use Alessandro to fine my set and craft. I plan on studying with Alessandro for many years to come. Highly recommended. Specifically i asked him to help with fingering, which he has a masters approach along with sight reading and rhythm.

A wonderful, knowledgeable and above all patient teacher

I would wholeheartedly recommend Alessandro to any adult beginner student like myself without a doubt. He is so patient with his students, some times I think I would have killed myself if I were the teacher with all the mistakes and the lack of preparation but he is always encouraging, coming up with practice advise and tips and tricks that only the masters know. He is very knowledgeable, me being a physicist always throwing at him all shorts of odd questions about the structure of music and he always has good answers. Most teachers rarely know these details and they don't care to spend the time researching but due to his years of musical studies he knows it all. He is also very flexible, during our lessons my interest has shifted from pure piano lessons to music theory and the study of harmony. Alessandro devised a study plan and he prepared lectures starting from scratch. He is very polite and accommodating to my demanding schedule and that has worked great for me. I really recommend Alessandro to any adults who want to start learning music, it is never too late, trust me, as long as you choose the right teacher!

Working with Joseph was a delight! He provided his services as an accompanist for a Christmas music video I was recording.

He was always punctual when arriving to rehearsals, scheduling rehearsals was a breeze, even with our packed schedules, and he was always prepared for each rehearsal with copies of the music I'd provided, as well as notes he'd gained by working through the music prior to the rehearsal.

He had a pleasant demeanor, and plenty of creative ideas for any places in the song that allowed for improvisation or personalization of the chords or phrasing. His accompaniment was the perfect companion to my singing, and could range many genres of music.

I also worked with him as the pianist in larger bands performing in the NYC area, and there as well, he was great to work with. Highly recommended! :)

I love music theory for it's ability to organize and clarify the rich and complex musical world, and I often find myself getting as excited about theory as I do about performance. I have studied traditional theory and jazz harmony as well as George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization. I often use theory to demystify very many styles of music from pop and rock to classical and jazz to the exotic sounds of North Africa and Eastern Europe.

I have taken the trumpet lessons with Bobby S. for about two years now. What I really appreciate most about Bobby is his patience. As an older student, it can be very challenging to learn trumpet. Bobby presents his lesson in a way that is easy to understand. He takes the time to explore what my difficulties are. Then he presents me with ways to challenge them. Bobby also has a good understanding of music theory. He explains and demonstrates musical concepts very thoroughly.

I finished my master’s degree program in Classical Music Composition under Richard Danielpour at the Manhattan School of Music.

My training in piano started from when I was 5 years old. Since then, I continuously took piano lesson and have had performed on the stage as well. I continued my training in piano until the end of my undergraduate at University of Hartford under David Westfall, Paul Rutman, Susan Cheng and Grace Smith. Over the summer during my college years, I worked as a private piano instructor in Korea for part-time job. I also worked as a ear-training and music theory tutor at my college.

She is very energetic and a great communicator. I was taking some basic lessons from her and I believe that teaching is somehow in her blood. She was the most great music teacher I’ve ever met. :)

Music theory is an essential tool that every musician should possess. Many people struggle to understand music theory and are often intimidated by it, but I am here to tell you that you shouldn't. Through many years of study I have developed my own approach to music theory that others have found much simpler and more enjoyable.

My name is Billy and I am a trombonist/guitarist currently living in New York City. I am studying Jazz Trombone at the New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music in Greenwhich Village. I have a lot of performing and teaching experience, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium and Zankel Hall), Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard, Smoke Jazz Club, and many other venues around the city. I have had several students for both trombone and guitar, and teach music theory, composition, and ear training as well. I have experience in a variety of different styles of music. I really enjoy sharing my love for music with my students, and my main priority is making sure that my students' learning experiences are as effective and enjoyable as possible.

I'm a classical trombonist by training and reached out for help with jazz theory and playing. Billy was an amazing resource who helped me develop concrete playing and practicing skills and become a more confident improviser. He was extremely patient and thorough and took extra time to make sure things would stick. Highly recommended!

I played the trombone when I was a kid but lost interest back then. After not playing for about 15 years Billy helped me to get back to it. We covered reading notes, learning a little bit about music theory (keys etc) and of course playing. I wanted to practice with some songs I like and Billy was able to write the notes down for me. This was super helpful and really made me enjoy playing the trombone again! We practiced in a room in the New School, which was cool since I could play as loud as I wanted, compared to back at home where I usually use a mute. He was very patient and friendly and I can highly recommend him as a teacher.

Aside from an extensive amount of personal and teaching experience in all of these subjects, I genuinely love connecting with students through music to help them reach their personal goals. I believe that my approach towards learning music is deeply rewarding, engaging, and aids brain development. Below is my bio which details my approach and teaching experience.

Drew received his Bachelors of Music in Jazz and Improvisational Music from the University of Nevada Reno and his Masters of Music in Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory. He teaches guitar, piano, songwriting, and composition with an emphasis on intuitive learning, ear training, and music theory. His background includes jazz, classical, rock, blues, reggae, R&B, hip-hop, electronic music, and improvised music. As an educator he has eight years of experien

Was strictly interested in playing classical, nylon string guitar, and was a little nervous because Drew is very proficient and accomplished in Jazz and Improvisational guitar, which is a little outside of my interests.

Drew does a fantastic job at teaching classical guitar, and at the same time introduced me to the more modern world of improvisation guitar, which I now enjoy a lot more than before.

I'd highly recommend Drew if someone is interested in a well rounded musical education that goes beyond just playing an instrument. I not only learned a lot of guitar, but feel I'm an all around better musician after taking lessons with Drew

I am a professional bassist and teacher living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In 2017 I earned a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Instrumental Music Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. I have experience teaching students from age 5 up through adulthood, and I have taught several students with special needs. I am proud to say that students of mine have won concerto competitions, earned first-degree ratings at solo and ensemble festivals, and have gone on to continue their study at the collegiate level.

As a bassist, I am fluent in Classical, Jazz, and Popular styles. After a month of lessons with Trevor I feel I must express my appreciation and satisfaction. Learning the cello for a beginner is not an easy task, but Teacher/instructor Trevor makes it happen with his patience, his practical approach and his professionalism with a very healthy attitude it all works. His understanding to what me as the student want is amazing. He doesn't waste time and he keeps me going ahead, and the success is actually reflecting. He has the technique for every step of the way. I am amazed how much I already accomplished in such short time, Thanks to Trevor for teaching effectively. I look forward for every lesson.

Allow me to start by saying that I am a violist, not a bassist. I had never so much as held a bass before in my life. However, after a few months of Trevor's patient guidance, I found myself reasonably confident not only in my ability to hold a bass but also somewhat in my ability to play it whilst doing so.

Aside from his patience, I appreciated his flexibility and approachability. Of course, I did my best to practice and attend all of our lessons, but if, for some reason, I was unable to do so, he would always work something out in a fair and rational manner. Not only did I feel comfortable asking questions, but I felt encouraged to do so. His hands-on approach of not just showing or telling but both was refreshing, as was his focus on the goals of student (me, in this particular situation). If there was a particular topic I wanted to discuss - vibrato, for instance - he would incorporate it into lesson plans piece by piece as I advanced to the necessary skill level, without losing a sense of the comprehensive "big picture." At the same time, I never felt rushed or lost during lessons or while practicing; his pacing was excellent, and there is no question that he absolutely knows the instrument well.

In summation, I learned a lot in a short period with Trevor, and strongly recommend this instructor.
