My goal is to make everyone who comes into my studio a better singer. While I work on providing a solid technique and making sure each person achieves the best sound she/he can produce, I also concentrate on appreciation of music and singing in general.

About Galina
Born in Moldova, lyric soprano Galina S. has emerged as a young artist of remarkable versatility and great vocal beauty.

“Galina possesses a most glorious soprano voice… her contributions to music have always been of the highest caliber, amply demonstrating her vocal and intellectual flexibility and accomplishment… she is a great singer and performer.” (John Shirley-Quirk, International baritone)

Ms. S’s impressive voice and sensitive musicianship has lead to performances in numerous cities in the United States as well as Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Israel, Moldova, and St. Petersburg, Russia. Her repertoire encompasses a vast gamut and includes lieder, chamber music, oratorio, and opera, sung in various languages, including German, French, Italian, Russian, Czech, English, and Spanish.

Galina will be next heard as Amelia in U
n ballo in maschera with Concert Opera Philadelphia, in March 2013. She will also sing the title role in Suor Angelica with OperaOggi NY in 2012/2013 season. Her most recent roles include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (New York Lyric Opera Theater), Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Nedda in I Pagliacci, Mimì and Musetta in La Bohème, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Some of the other roles are Violetta in La Traviata, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, the title role in Iolanta, Marfa in Tsar’s Bride, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

In oratorio Ms. S. has performed as a soprano soloist in the Lord Nelson Mass and Theresa Mass of Haydn, Handel’s Messiah, J. S. Bach’s Magnificat, and the Neue Liebeslieder, Opus 65 by Brahms. Her recital and chamber repertoire include songs and song cycles by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Dvořak, Manuel de Falla, Poulenc, and Messiaen.

Ms. S. has been the recipient of several awards and scholarships which include Washington International Competition in Washington DC, Center for Contemporary Opera Competition in New York, Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition in New York, New York Vocal Artists Competition, Peabody Conservatory Graduate Performance Diploma Scholarship and grant, and Mayor’s Scholarship from the University of Pennsylvania where Galina received her undergraduate degrees in music and computer science engineering. Galina has also been chosen to participate in the International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich.

Galina is a graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Music where she received a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance, and University of Pennsylvania, which she finished with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Computer Science Engineering.

Ms. S. is a dedicated and enthusiastic voice teacher, who has been teaching for the past ten years. Many of her students have become soloists in their schools’ musical productions, and several went on to continue their studies at major conservatories. Galina has really helped me come far in the past year I had initially started taking lessons with her. With each lesson I can feel my voice getting stronger and clearer and she does a wonderful job at easing me into each exercise. My vocal style differs from hers but the basic techniques she teaches helps me to get stronger and maintain my voice and it also inspires me to push myself further and further. Everything is explained clearly precisely and I highly recommend her for anyone despite what your goals or musical interests may be and she is very flexible with her schedule.

My daughter has been taking Voice lessons from Galina for 3 1/2 years starting when she was 14 yrs old. Since studying with Galina she has grown and improved dramatically. She trusts Galina and knows she has her best interest at heart. Galina is an inspiring, dedicated teacher whose passion and knowledge are incredible. Her life has changed because of Galina's guidance and influence. She has worked with her to not only become a better singer, but an all around better performer. We have been exposed to many amazing performance opportunities which have given her the confidence and experience necessary to excel in her art. I enthusiastically recommend Galina!

I sang in various choirs and also sing for personal songwriting. I teach proper exercises and warm up techniques to help improve tone, pitch, and breathing. I like to also have fun with it and sing contemporary songs based on student interest.

About Matthew
I started playing trumpet in grade school and was in the marching band the first year of high school. I then switched to playing upright bass in the orchestra. This led to me being a part of the jazz band and playing instrumentals for school musicals. Upon graduation time, I received the gold medal for music performance in strings. I was also an AP music theory student. After, I pursued a bachelor's degree in music and took education courses. I have tutored music theory and given instrument lessons, but they were always self employed or from the university.

I wish to help others make music an enjoying part of their lives, as it is in mine.

As a professional singer of over a decade, I love the stage more than just about anything. It is a thrilling lifestyle but I am equally inspired every time I am just an audience member. I work with my students towards improving their vocal technique, musicality, and confidence so that they can become the types of performers I enjoy listening to! My background is varied, covering classical music, jazz, and other contemporary styles. This enables me to give input to students with a variety of musical goals. Alongside my experience, I have a neverending quest for deeper and refreshed knowledge of vocal mechanics and pedagogy which helps me guide each student through their unique issues.

About Josef
I am a professional singer new to the Philadelphia area from South Florida. Music has been a lifelong endeavor for me; I am fortunate to have been born into a family of musicians and started my professional career as a boy soprano soloist at the age of eleven, working primarily in the greater Miami area. I've since trained as an operatic baritone, earning my Bachelor of Music degree from Florida Southern College. I am currently working towards a master's degree in Voice Performance at Temple University and look forward to establishing myself as a performer and teacher in the northeast!

I have enjoyed performing in a wide range of environments and genres; Italian opera, jazz, liturgical music, and even a hip-hop/rap promotional for YMCMB are just a few of the things I have put my musical thumbprint on! In my native Florida, I enjoyed te
aching privately and in ensemble settings to children and adults, including beginners and more advanced students. I particularly love working with passionate children, teenagers, and young adults who want to take their musical pursuits to another level, such as to audition for performing arts schools, or become more comfortable and adept in using their constantly growing voices!

While I'm a stickler for perfection, I work in music primarily because I think it's a lot of fun. I strive to foster a learning environment that is enjoyable for my students and prefer teaching methods that are constructive vs. destructive (I don't believe in "building you back up" after tearing you down)! I prioritize HEALTHY use of the voice whether my student is fifteen or fifty: every stage of life poses challenges (and benefits) to the vocal instrument and my specialized study and performing experience aids in me recognizing the good and bad in every singer to help them grow.
