I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old (off and on). I then started traveling more and found the mandolin to be so much easier to carry around and so much fun, it was hard to stop playing it. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA, The Traditions week at Common Ground on the Hill Festival in MD, etc
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, arranging tunes, music theory, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

About Tara

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their less

I will help you learn how to use music as a tool of expression, tailored to each unique students wants and needs, while building solid technique and knowledge of music theory, and learning a wide repertoire. I am a current Berklee College of Music student, mandolinist, guitarist, pianist, vocalist and songwriter, and have extensive knowledge of music theory, ear training, jazz, funk, brazilian choro, pop, blues, contemporary bluegrass, folk and classical music. I have worked as an assistant teacher for elementary and middle school students and at Berklee’s Global String Intensive, developed a curriculum and taught private lessons on my own, I am studying Music Education and I run the Berklee Mandolin Orchestra. In addition I have written, crowd funded and recorded two records of my own (produced by Grammy Nominee Neilson Hubbard) and shared the stage with Chris Thile, Amos Lee,

"Damien explains the concept very well and asks questions to find out how much I already know. He tailors the classes to my abilities (I used to play piano and guitar) and interests. I am inspired to practise the techniques so I can play the music I chose. Just my third lesson and Damien is already introducing “improvisation” and that I was ready as long as I practise my scales. Being taught by Damien is exhilarating. Very blessed."
