About Antoinette
I deliver two types of lessons: private lessons and group classes. If you are interested in group classes, please inquire for more information.

Finding a trained violinist and finding a good violin teacher are two very different things. When I see other teacher's profiles, they boast of the years of training they had. Anyone can learn to play (that is my philosophy), but it takes a love of teaching to really make a difference in someone's life.

PATIENCE
With a love of teaching comes a seemingly endless resource of patience. This is because what the student sees as "patient" is really just a small step in the educational process. It is a fraction of time just before a correction. When you have something new to teach, whether it is a new technique, or a correction of something being done improperly, and you know exactly how to break
it down so it is understandable and accomplish-able, you know it is always a short matter of time before the student gets it. And by short, I mean a matter of seconds, or minutes.

FRIENDLINESS
I respect others and what they feel and have to say. I treat others as I would want to be treated and lessons are always a pleasure to my students, because it is a pleasure for me to teach them.

EXPERIENCE
I have been playing for over 29 years. I have played with a multitude of local orchestras and bands and have done countless studio recording sessions and live shows. Real-world experience is vital to understanding what people want to listen to.

When you are learning, there is a vast sea of information. Not all of that knowledge is equal in importance. It is most important to distinguish what is important and what is not very important. All of my real-life experience, and continuing experience reveals itself in the form of ensuring my students know what is truly important.

Lessons are fun, because they are productive. I know your happiness is directly related to your success, which is why I guarantee it (as long as you practice). You will walk away being able to do something.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM MY STUDENTS
Practice.
Practice.
Practice.
And a winning attitude.

I can even work with you if you don't have a winning attitude, but it makes it more fun when you do!

HOW FAST CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?
Some students who were musicians previously leave the first lesson being able to play their first song. Most students however, who have never played an instrument before, can expect to be comfortable bowing (a huge part of the process - half the sound!) within the first few weeks, and will then move on to learning songs. We will be learning sheet music as well, on a very, very easy gradient. After the first couple months, I expect you to tell me a song you might like to learn most so that we can start working on it.

RENTALS
I rent out violins of all sizes.

If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. You can use the contact button on this website and I will gladly answer you.

Antoinette is, by far, the best music instructor that I have ever hired. Music has always been a part of my life. As a child, I took piano lessons for years and continued on and off through college. As a complete novice to the violin, I was nervous to begin such a challenging instrument as an adult hobby. Antoinette is encouraging, intelligent and incredibly skilled. Her calm demeanor and patience is vital to one's success. She focuses on the building blocks to a successful technique with ease. I am incredibly grateful to Antoinette for reminding me of how enjoyable music can be. I look forward to our weekly sessions around my busy work schedule. Her location is conveniently located within walking distance from the subway in NYC.

I took violin lessons for a year with an instructor I found through a different organization (not TakeLessons)--and I learned more in one hour with Antoinette than I learned in 30 lessons with that other teacher. In just one lesson, I can see that Antoinette is friendly, smart, encouraging, knows her stuff--and knows how to teach (which not every good player can do). I'm an adult, but I bet she'd be just as great with a student of any age.

Perhaps the best teacher I’ve ever had—in any discipline, at any age. When I first began two years ago, I couldn’t read a note of music and had never played any instrument. Since then, thanks to Moran’s patience and guidance, I can play with confidence at a level I never imagined. Wonderful, kind, yet demanding teacher who enjoys teaching and takes great pride in the progress of her students

Erica has been working with my 13 year daughter Stacy for two years now. My daughter loves musical theater but was very shy and not confident. After working with Erica she is front and center on stage and enjoys being in all the school performances. Erica is the best!! She is so supportive and kind and giving of herself and her talent. I couldn't imagine my daughter working with anyone else. My daughter is really growing and enjoying her singing. Brava Erica!

I have worked with children for years in a multitude of environments; in childcare, as a music teacher, and as a private tutor. This range of experience has given me the perfect tools to assist children with tackling the many obstacles faced both with school work and in music lessons. I believe that the most effective teaching approach involves a positive and engaging environment with the aim of increasing a child's sense of confidence and autonomy with the subjects as we work through their concerns. This 'friend approach' promotes an environment in which children feel safe asking questions and expressing confusion in our sessions, which allows us to work together and develop tactics that allow the child to better handle these struggles independently in the future. I have seen my students flourish in both the school environment and at hom
e as we have worked to learn and improve problem solving skills, whether it be regarding their school work or their music.

I have been a professional teacher, composer, guitarist and electric bassist for over thirty years, and consider myself very fortunate to share the stage and record with some of the world’s greatest talents in contemporary music- both as an accompanist and as a bandleader. The mission of teaching music was always something that came to me as second nature, as I am thrilled every time when communicating with my students through the love of music.

I believe in being attentive to the student’s musical needs and preferences while making sure I provide all the fundamentals of music creation and playing experience. I do not discriminate between any musical styles and levels of playing experience.

For your convenience, I offer my lessons in a comfortable setting, at the heart of New York City.

I am looking forward to sharing my love
and joy of music with you!

Avi is simply the best teacher that I have ever had! I had trouble with tackling jazz improvisation for a long time and needed someone who can explain to me the whole A to Z of it while being able to demonstrate it on the guitar. It is very rare to find a great teacher that is also a great player. My search is over!
