Saxophone students learn to read notes, improvise and play various styles of music.

About Alex
Hi, my name is Alex and I'm a Professional Guitar / Music Teacher with B.A. and M.A. in Guitar / Music Education. I have over 25 years of experience giving private lessons and teaching in schools in the Tri-state area to students of all ages and levels, from a complete beginner to advanced. I cover different styles - from Classical to Jazz, Pop to Bossa Nova, Blues to Rock, Heavy-Metal to Progressive. Whether you would like to learn to play the guitar from the beginning or just to improve your technique or soloing - I will be able to help you out. All ages and levels of students from beginners to advanced are accepted. The atmosphere of the lessons is relaxed and fun, helping the student progress and get the best results. I prefer to vary the lessons so that many various styles and genres could be covered - plus the student's favorite
songs as well. In addition to lessons for Acoustic and Electric Guitars, I also offer lessons on Bass Guitar, Saxophone, Clarinet and Piano.

Education and Experience: B.A. & M.A.in Guitar and Music Education from Brooklyn College. Music school training from early age on Guitar, Piano, Saxophone and Clarinet. Performed with various ensembles, groups and bands in musical genres ranging from Classical music to Rock. Taught private music lessons in New York Tri-state area for over 25 years to students of various ages and levels. For the last 10 years teaching music at a public school in Staten Island. Classes ranging from 4th through 8th Grade and including: Guitar Ensemble, Band, Chorus, General Music & a modern after-school Rock Band.

*** Lesson Details ***
The atmosphere of my lessons is quite laid-back, helping students progress naturally and achieve the best result. Having many years of experience in both teaching theory and practice allows me to make every lesson educational yet fun.
I love teaching, and tailor the lessons to the individual - working through the fundamentals, new techniques, and of course, having a blast learning how to play your favorite music. After 3 to 6 months, my students are able to play songs with various chords, be able to read simple music and start learning how to improvise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: Amps, guitars, full keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide the book for the student on the first lesson, however after that the student would have to purchase the book. I will have my own instrument, but the student must have their own instrument in order to be ready for the lesson. I do have a number of guitars and if its a guitar student - I would be able to let the student use one of my guitars on the first lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I teach many various styles and incorporate the reading and music literacy in all of the styles. I specialize in teaching Classical and Rock genres of music. However I have taught: Metal, Bossa Nova, Pop, Punk, Flamenco, Progressive. Teaching classical genre - I incorporate a lot of various techniques that are very broad in spectrum to help the student learn to perform the music, read, improvise and compose. Teaching Rock genre - I teach my students to read music as well and concentrate on improvising and soloing techniques as well.

Alex is a very patient and down to earth teacher. I've had teachers before but none have helped me progress as fast as Alex. He is very knowledgeable and shows me what a wonderful instrument the guitar is. I'm always excited to play more after our lessons. Would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to pick up the guitar.

I've been Alex's student for over 3 years and I've definitely noticed how much of a great teacher he is. He is very resourceful and knowledgeable so he can teach a lot of different genres from classical to the pop songs we hear today. His ability to teach makes it easy for me to learn and understand songs and pieces. Not only that, Alex cares about my progress and makes sure that I'm not confused or lost about any of the material he teaches me. In my time with Alex, I've noticed how much progress I've made and definitely recommend him for anyone who's looking to learn how to play the guitar.

About Jerry
I've been playing and loving music for well more than half a century, now. I got started in second grade when my grandpa brought home a little violin one day, and I've been at it ever since. I was fortunate to take lessons for more than ten years with Carita Page, a teacher who was very warm, encouraging, and caring. I do my best to pass that on to my students in addition to the technique of playing and the theory of music, fascinating as those are.

I feel that playing in groups is very valuable experience for students and gives you a side of music that private lessons alone cannot. I encourage students to look for opportunities to do that. To help provide those opportunities I organized the Cranbury Scout Band, one of very few continuously-operating Scout bands in the country, which I have directed for more that ten years now.
I've also been on the staff of several Jamboree Scout bands.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every student is a different individual and learns in different ways. I try to make lessons as interesting and as useful to each student as I can, and include different things based on your interests and capabilities. Most students find duets are fun, so I include them often - both duets with the same instrument you are studying and duets with other instruments as well so you can learn the sound of such combinations. I encourage you to "play with your ears" as well as your fingers, to become a critical listener to your own performance and to decide whether you sound the way you want to sound.

I encourage students to try different things to become a more rounded musician. This might be something closely related - a flutist trying the piccolo or a clarinetist trying the bass clarinet. Or, it might be further afield - a flutist trying the guitar or a violinist learning movable Do and solfeggio singing. Every aspect of music is good to know.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My music studio is in a separate building - actually a renovated barn about two centuries old. The studio contains a piano and all the other instruments that I teach, and is roomy enough not only for private lessons but for musical groups up to about ten. I have many other resources there as well, including files of music, a small music library, and a computer that we can use for many purposes.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need their instruments, music, and stands.
I bring my own instrument.

I use the Rubank series of method books which are full of exercises and songs that will help you bring your playing and technique to the next level.

About Kathleen
Kathleen Little first decided to make a career in music after listening to the sound track of Spirited Away by composer Joe Hisaishi. Ms. Little, after playing the flute on her own for seven years, began her classical flute education at the age of sixteen with international soloist Jun Kubo. Only a year and a half after Ms. Little began her studies with Jun Kubo, she was accepted into The College of New Jersey for a Bachelors program in Music Performance where she studied with David DiGiacobbe. While at TCNJ, Kathleen performed her own programs in Mayo Concert Hall, featuring soloistic works by composers such as Nielsen, Hoover, and Takemitsu, and was complimented for her stage presence and musicality. She also had the pleasure of performing with the TCNJ Opera, Chamber, and Symphony Orchestras where she played principle flute on establis
hed pieces such as Ravel's Bolero and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. She went on to perform with the NYU Symphony Orchestra and participate in the NYU Chamber Music program where she has played with a Trio, Quintet, Sextet, and flute ensemble. Kathleen Little has participated in masterclasses with performers such as Trevor Wye, Min Park, Gary Shocker and Bradley Garner. Ms. Little currently runs a teaching studio in NJ where she teaches woodwinds, voice, and piano. She has obtained her Bacheloers from The College of New Jersey in music performance, and her Master of Music degree from NYU, where she studied with Bradley Garner.

Whether your goal is to prepare for college auditions, to improve your performance in band class, or to simply learn the ropes of this amazing instrument, I can help you get where you want to go using a combination of my personal performance experience, the Rubank method, and supplementary materials designed by Dr. Joseph d'Auguste.

About Brittney
I am a music educator and professional performer in the NYC metro area. I hold a B.A. in music education with a concentration in woodwind performance.

I have taught students from ages 3 to 65, and I have the enthusiasm and resources to help you meet your specific musical goals. Whether your goal is college audition preparation or simply to build confidence and self-expression, I will work with you to develop a plan that fits your budget, schedule, and personal goals. My students have auditioned for and performed in regional honors ensembles, regional piano festivals, and community performances.

I teach piano, saxophone, clarinet, and flute to students of all different ages and experience levels, as well as ear training and music theory. I have been playing the saxophone for 13 years, and regularly perform in both classical and contempor
ary styles. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

I have premiered works by contemporary composers such as Paul Gaita and Patrick Burns, given several solo recitals, and studied with NYC multiple woodwind artists Todd Groves, Dr. Joseph d'Auguste, and Vito Chiavuzzo.

My personal passion is bringing music to the lives of as many students as possible, regardless of their level or specific interests. Please reach out with any questions, and I hope to meet you soon!

About Johnny
Johnny Lippiett is an award winning musician, educator and recording artist. A regular on the international jazz circuit for over two decades now, he has established himself as a thrilling saxophonist who layers electrifying improvisation atop a foundation of modern jazz. Complementing his success as a jazz artist, he lectured in saxophone and related studies at The New Zealand School of Music, from 1999-2007.

Born in the UK, his versatile musicianship and uniquely personal style won him a place in the finals of the young jazz musician of the year (1997). This led to work with the cream of London’s A-list at many of the esteemed venues such as the Barbican, the Jazz Café, the 606 Club and the Bulls head. After graduating from Dartington College of Arts with a BA Honors degree (1997) he attended the London Institute where he was awarded a
Post Graduate teaching qualification in jazz education (1998).

After moving to NZ in 1999, Johnny quickly became established as one of the most respected and in demand musicians as well as becoming a clinician for Selmer saxophones. He was regularly featured at many international jazz festivals and divided his time between London and Wellington. His contributions to the NZ jazz community proved to be invaluable and his instruction of important young jazz talent offered an impressive compliment to his artistic efforts.

In 2006 he was awarded a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance and he continues to foster critical acclaim along with an ever increasing fan base through industry awards, live performances and studio recordings. Since 2007 he has lived and worked in New York and his recent CD 'Soulscape' featured the All-star rhythm section of Billy Drummond, Mike Eckroth and Ron McClure.

My goal as a saxophone and clarinet teacher is to cultivate a fun, focused, and productive lesson environment. Regardless of age or experience, I believe the passion that initially inspires someone to take up an instrument is the most important attribute to nurture. As a teacher, I try to figure out what that passion is for each individual student, and develop a plan together that incorporates learning a solid foundation of technical skills, exploring new and interesting topics, and maintaining an atmosphere of curiosity.

Speaking specifically about what lessons would include, I believe a strong foundation of technical skills is essential for anyone wanting to improve at an instrument. Things we can cover are: tone production, breathing, tonguing, finger technique, reading music, music theory etc. More creative topics that I enjoy diving into with students are: transcribing, composing, ear training, developing new exercises, jazz and improvisation etc. As a jazz saxophonist and ...

About Eric
Hi!

Thanks for considering taking lessons with me. I have been playing saxophone and clarinet for ~14 years, and teaching for 7. I studied jazz at Indiana University's prestigious Jacobs School of Music and soon after moved to NYC in 2017. I am equally comfortable teaching and performing on both instruments, and have experience in many settings such as jazz, latin ensembles, pop, pit orchestras, and show music. Currently I live in Brooklyn, where I maintain a private lesson studio and perform around NYC.

Though I have the most experience teaching middle and high school students, I am comfortable with any age, and can teach both saxophone and clarinet at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. My area of specialty is jazz and improvisation, something common to saxophone but rarely studied on clarinet. I enjoy seeing the rapid progr
ess that often comes when interested beginner students are exposed to private lesson instruction. I especially try to prioritize the student's specific interest or passion, such as wanting to learn a famous sax solo (I wanted to learn saxophone to play the "Pink Panther" theme..). I believe in letting that passion guide a student's practice, and as the teacher I hope to provide the right mix of answers, challenge, and creative questioning.
