I have been struggling to learn how to play for 35 years and never could find the right instructor for "Me". I have come to the conclusion that I will never play the piano so I have given up on my dream. I felt this was a big let down in my life and I couldn't let myself down by giving up. So I started a search again for an Instructor that will be good for me. My search online took me to takelessons and I was connected with Paul.

I thought, "What do I have to lose, nothing". So I signed up and I have to say after meeting Paul and taking, now 3 lessons, I find that I finally found the instructor for me.

Paul is very attentive to my learning needs and is very accommodating in adopting his teaching style to fit my learning style. I am a slow learner, as well as, a sight learner (in other words, I have to see what one is explaining for me to understand) Paul has taken his time with me to show and explain everything to me.

Paul encourages me to ask questions and he will take the time to answer any question that I have and if I don't understand, Paul will explain it differently to me until I understand. Paul has a vast knowledge in music, Piano and other instruments which is very reassuring to me.

I know I have made the right decision to take my lessons with Paul. I have to say, I will finally be able to achieve a dream of mine that I have had for the past 35 year, and it's all thanks to Paul.

Thank you so much, Paul!!!

Paul is a true professional. Always polite, punctual and flexible. My son has been making quite a bit of progress in a few short months Paul has been teaching him. To the point that the middle school music teacher will be promoting my son to the advanced level band.

I've been teaching Bass for blues and rock for 15 years. My style is to give you what is needed in technique and scale work to get you to play all the songs you want as soon as possible. Its a fun hands on way to go, and to ear train you so that you can figure out song on your own.

About Albert
Twenty three years of performing and teaching experience. Specialty in Rock, Blues, Finger Style, Country, Folk, Classical, Funk and Punk. Bachelor of Arts in Classical Performance from Fredonia University. Proficient in theory, reading, composition and arranging, songwriting. Recording artist for hire and personal projects. Home studio in Highlands, NJ.

My Philosophy - Students First - My main goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere in which the student can proceed at his/her own pace. Whether you are looking to perform, do studio work, audition, be a songwriter or just learn a few songs for your own enjoyment. I am happy to create a custom program for you. I believe the most fundamental place to begin is with theory. Through a creative, relaxed and patient environment I introduce students to the rudiments of music on 2 simp
le pages. Theory helps you to understand song writing, ear training, and how to build chords and scales. I try to get you to hear the music so you can improvise better and also take songs and solos off CD's yourself, therefore becoming more self reliant to teach yourself in the future.

My students bring in the songs they like and by strengthening their ears and learning to apply theory points, I show them how they can figure out the song by ear the exact way it was written and played by the original artist. Therefore you can play with the CD as if you are a band member. This builds confidence to perform and record in any band at any level. As stated above, I will also customize a program for those interested in learning songs without the theory work so they can use the music to play songs as a nice relaxing past time.

Course Descriptions- Rock, Blues and Funk: You will quickly learn how chords and scales are developed using a condensed theory set up chart. This quick immersion in theory helps you to build a strong foundation while at the same time playing and enjoying the music. I have found in my years of teaching that making theory and music interactive from the beginning makes it more enjoyable to learn. You will learn all scales, chords, techniques, rhythms, and ear training specific to these styles of music. The advantage to this Teaching Format , especially in terms of solo scale playing, to progress much further and faster than if you were just learning how to play the songs. We then go straight to the CD's of your choice and learn from the best, the artists you've admired. Whether to learn their rhythms, solo lines, songwriting formats, melodies and harmonies, and all by ear. As a soloist, you will know enough about scales and chord theory and how to blend the two so you can make the guitar talk yourself. Still for those who want a quick song approach, we can get into playing a song and review its theory relevance when desired. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)

Folk, Country and Bluegrass: As stated above, I begin with the condensed theory chart to understand chords of all types. Here we study rhythms of the above music forms including ballad, country blues and country folk. Through use of songs you enjoy, we study how the music was written and performed. You will learn in this course how to play music you love as it was done by the original artist. We begin with listening to the original soundtrack. Through the use of the ear we dissect the song and learn it in its original form piece by piece. This will also help set up the study of song writing. Understanding how artists Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Transposing songs to fit your vocal range and Arranging songs to bring out their best. (Recommend 1 hour lesson/week plus practice time)

Finger Style: Great fun for those who would rather not sing but still want to play full songs on guitar. This style of guitar will blend the techniques of traditional finger picking artists along with our own on improvisation over twelve bar blues progressions and songs. You will learn to play all the parts, bass, melody, harmony and inside chords with your picking hand. Also how to create chord/melody arrangements from any melody.

Classical: Classical guitar is taught through developing standard reading skills, finger exercises and scale work while learning beautiful pieces at the same time.

Song Writing: Song writing always begins with an introduction to theory. From there you will study works from other artists to see how they Choose Chords, develop Melodies and Harmonies, and how they use the art of Modulation to bring you to and from different keys for effect. Choose a song and artist that you enjoy and we will dissect the piece learning the above techniques.

Children's Studies: The study of music has proven to enhance a child's concentration, mathematical and reading skills, self confidence, performance skills in all walks of life whether its playing the guitar, to public speaking, to playing sports.

I agree with everything everyone else says about Albert so I don't want to repeat. I started with him when I retired (bucket list litem) and Albert is very patient and helpful ( as well as accommodating my uneven scheduling). You get into songs you like right away and learn technique within the songs as you go. He'll give you as much theory as you want. Shortly after you start with Albert you'll feel like your learning/ playing with a friend... I highly recommend him!

The reason Albert is the best instructor ever is that he is really gifted at his craft and at teaching. So many people can do one or the other. Albert makes it fun and instills a desire to practice, and balances theory/performance goals. He is college educated in music and will teach the fundamentals-having said that, he would make a great teacher for the advanced player as well.

Finally, he is the most patient teacher I know, a plus for you and/or your child. I would be pleased to talk personally to anyone considering Albert for lessons.

Becoming a proficient bass player involves so much more than just instrumental technique. A good bassist needs to be able to establish a groove. They need to be able to make a strong musical connection with their drummer. In many ways, the bass player is responsible for making the entire band sound good. This, along with a strong emphasis on technique, is the central focus of the curriculum that I use to teach bass guitar.

About Pete
My name is Pete. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years. In 2011 I graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music. There, I spent several semesters studying with Tomo Fujita (former teacher of John Mayer and Eric Krasno). I've also studied with legendary guitarist Pat Metheny and Jack Pezanelli. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix are responsible for inspiring me to play guitar and I specialize in teaching blues and jazz guitar, bass, and piano. I firmly believe that every serious musician should study ear training and music theory and I incorporate these areas in my lessons as long as the student wants to study this way. I've performed with a bunch of great artists in the Boston and Philadelphia area.
In 2011, I successfully obtained my master
's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The master's program was an intense submersion in music performance that shaped me into the musician that I am today. I was lucky to study with Don Glanden, Mike Kennedy, and Kevin Hanson.
I am also well versed in computer recording software and DAWs. I teach students how to use software programs such as Logic and Reason as well as notation software like Sibelius and Finale. With some basic training in these programs, I can teach a student how to effectively record and produce professional quality recordings so that a student can write, record, and produce their own music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Because I've studied with some legendary teachers who have taught some legendary students (like John Mayer), I'm able to pass on to my students the same knowledge that these incredible teachers passed on to me. I guarantee that I will be unlike any guitar teacher that you've had before. Along with instrumental training, I offer extensive lessons in music theory and ear training. My family is full of educators and I've experienced the teacher-student relationship from a young age. I am fully committed to developing lesson plans based on the route that a student wants to take, whether it's just learning the basics and playing along to your favorite songs or engaging in serious study and preparing for college auditions. I am available to teach at any location within the Philadelphia area.

*** Stylistic Focus ***
I specialize in jazz and blues. At Berklee, I was able to take instrumental labs that spent an entire semester focusing on the playing style of certain guitarists. I've taken the Wes Montgomery lab, the Pat Martino lab, the Jimi Hendrix lab, the John Scofield lab, and the Stevie Ray Vaughan lab.

With over 175 bass performances each year across many different genres and settings, I’ve been successful in turning my love of music into a profession. In my 16 years of playing bass, I’ve learned that an emphasis on fundamentals and musicianship are most important for students. By focusing my lessons on technique, music theory, and groove, students learn the skills necessary to begin playing with other people with confidence and clarity. Within the first few lessons, students learn to navigate the fret board and play with proper technique to avoid injury and increase articulation, all while having fun and exploring the music they love.

About Steven
Hello! My name is Steve and I’m a professional musician, composer, and teacher from Brooklyn, NY. For 9 years I’ve taught acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and music theory in the Greater Boston area. I now teach out of my private studio in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. I also offer in-home and online lessons.

My goal in teaching is to help students build confidence and find their voice in music. By developing strong technique, theory, and musicianship, students learn the skills needed to play with others, teach themselves new music, and pursue opportunities such as auditions and advanced music programs. Many of the teaching methods I employ are adapted from ones I learned while attending Berklee College of Music as well as my 15 years of private study.

I'm interested in how music and sounds affect people and I challenge my student
s to pursue what moves them. My lessons focus on the individual goals and needs of each player. With 16 years of playing experience and 9 years of teaching experience I have helped students pass music school auditions, form successful bands, and create demos of original music, among other achievements.

Thanks for your interest. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I was a complete beginner when I first took lessons with Steve. He was patient with me and gave me useful exercises to practice, although the most memorable moments occurred when he told me to just jam. Over the course of our lessons, he gave me the confidence to write my own bass lines, and take pride in my work. I don't know anyone who is as passionate about playing bass as Steve Burke.

I have known Steve Burke for about 3 years. I noticed him for his extraordinary bass guitar playing skills. I have witnessed his growth as a bass player, while he was invited in to numerous bands in the North Shore of Boston area. He soon was playing on recordings for several bands.

I came to learn he teaches bass. Before we had a first lesson, Steve asked “what I wanted” from lessons. As a person without any formal music / music theory education, I wanted to understand where all the notes are on the neck, and wanted to develop the ability to improvise in any key. Steve organized our first lessons to help me gain these goals. Two main components were in Steve’s teaching; 1) Giving positive input to - and positive feedback on - the musical things I played, or tried to play, and 2) developing and assigning exercises so I could progress between lessons.

Steve is patient and easy going, and made each lesson very much worthwhile.

More recently Steve gave me a lesson on “walking bass” and explained the note-to-note movements in terms I could easily understand. He also provided the principles behind the formation and playing of walking bass, in language appropriate to my limited music theory knowledge. Steve impresses me as thoroughly knowledgeable in this topic.

I would recommend Steve as a bass instructor to anyone, of any level, or music knowledge base (including those with no musical knowledge). He is expert in developing lessons that address the student’s goals, and are at the “right knowledge level” for each student. Every lesson I had left me smiling, and later recalling the new learning as I put it into practice.

I am well-versed in Jazz, Classical, and Rock and I have made some of my performances available for viewing on my Youtube channel and Facebook musician page:

Over a decade of bass experience, including national touring and session work. Learn proper technique, your favorite basslines, the importance of a strong rhythm section, chords, improviation and more!

About Ari
I am a guitarist, bassist, writer and composer based in South Brooklyn. With international touring experience, songs licensed to film and television, and a degree from The New School, I have an approach that is both holistic and comprehensive. I am easygoing, adaptable and excited to approach music education from an inclusive angle!

I teach students of all ages, and have given an average of 40 lessons per week in a variety of formats (private, group, after school programs, online). My tastes in music are as varied as my experiences - nothing is off limits and everything has the potential to teach us both something.

I own and operate an independent music collective/label with a focus on thoughtful rock, pop and R&B. We are adept at finding the right team for our artists, and have had success in music and video production, national tourin
g, marketing and branding, and licensing. I'm currently a member of 3 original bands and have continued to do an array of session work on both guitar and bass.

I am endorsed by Lakland basses and am a member of SESAC. I love coffee, chocolate, and like my eggs over medium.

Fantastic and versatile teacher, able to cover all styles comfortably. Definitely recommended for in-home lessons for adults or kids. Relaxed & easygoing, Ari can also push when you need to get over that next practice hurdle. Super nice guy and great teacher.

Ari is very knowledgable but presents information in a relaxed, approachable way. It's obvious that he really enjoys teaching and his low key manner makes students feel at ease. Highly recommended!
