Through the lessons I help students on understanding the fundamentals of music theory, creating an ideal sound, musical expression and coordination.
Every student is different. I work with students individually and use different approaches for each one of them. Such as methods, repertoire and lesson skills.
But most important of all, I always make sure that my student does not loose interest and have fun making music!

Very nice and professional. My daughter loves her.

I’m an adult viola student which is kind of different for me. I started playing again after a couple years and I’m trying to learn ways to play with other musicians. Emily has been really good with helping me focus on what I want to learn. She is patient with me and also plays with me and makes me feel comfortable in my lesson. afterwards I feel good and positive and I want to play more! I suggest her for anyone trying to be creative and wants to improve on tempo, rythm, tone etc. she’s good.

It is a year later and my daughter is playing well. Anje enjoys her classes and thinks Emily is a great instructor.

I am a professional violinist with 8 years of experience as a violin teacher and as a violinist in professional orchestras.

We will study the three basic aspects of music, tuning, rhythm and interpretation, and most importantly, you will find a lot of happiness in music.

To teach is to help a person discover their skills and find himself, my goal is to arouse the curiosity of the student while giving him the necessary tools to solve problems in a conscious and efficient manner.

At the beginning of the process it is required a great awareness of the body in order to achieve proper posture of the hands. Daily practice is necessary and essential as the transformation from beginner to great violinist occurs in the time that each student spends practicing.

The violin lessons are customized to the individual needs of each student.

Music reading, music appreciation and music theory are components the violin lessons , all aimed to build self-confidence and creativity in the students.

Even though most of my students are children between the age of 6 and 18, I love teaching adults because we can build up meaningful relationships and have intriguing conversations through music! I am fully equipped to teach from absolute beginners to semi-professionals who had chosen a non-music career path. Let's work together to achieve your goal, and make beautiful music.

Hi! I'm Michael Shingo Crawford and I am a violinist, pianist, and composer.

In my teaching, I emphasize efficient, goal-oriented practice, and provide a strong technical foundation while always keeping musicality and expression in mind. I encourage my students to develop problem-solving skills that will ultimately allow them to create their own interpretations about a piece of music. I believe that each student has a different learning style and, with this knowledge, I design a program of study specifically for them.

Learning music is all about tackling technical or musical problems in many different ways until we find an approach that works for you. As multi-instrumentalist who also writes music, I can offer many different perspectives on a single issue and draw from a wide range of knowledge that serves me in my daily creative pursuits. ~

About Michael

A bit about me - in my creative work, I like to explore narrative and extramusical ideas through sound. I'm often inspired by literature, visual art, dance, and my Japanese heritage. I'm a recent graduate of Temple University with a Master's in Music Composition, and my work has been presented by p

Paige Q
I have been a student of Michael’s for approximately 7 months. My only previous experience with violin had been one year in elementary school band class and 8 months with a private teacher. When my private teacher’s lesson schedule changed, I was introduced to Michael and was greatly impressed by his skill level and teaching style. I have learned so much more than I had expected in each lesson, like how to self-tune, use a metronome, shift, and various other techniques. Michael constantly offers feedback on how I can execute techniques better, and I feel that this helps me to learn more effectively. He is always challenging me by giving me harder pieces and scales. I have even been told by my high school orchestra conductor that I have improved so much and she is constantly surprised by how fast I am learning. I highly recommend having Michael as a teacher for anyone looking to learn how to play the violin.

Michael is very talented and he is a great instructor. He explains the techniques really well. Very professional and supportive. I highly recommend him!
Tanush
Micheal is a fantastic teacher that manages to solve every question and problem I have about my instrument. His teaching technique breaks down complex things into easy-to-understand lessons that help give me and his other students great comprehension of the topics that we need to know to become better musicians. I sincerely cannot recommend him enough to beginning and intermediate musicians.

"I started working with Alyssa in person when she was teaching violin in Salt Lake City. Once she moved to Los Angeles I agreed to try the online lessons. I have found this method of learning to be very valuable. Alyssa has a unique way of teaching. While the traditional principles of violin playing are taught Alyssa includes mindfulness and breath in her methods. She also introduces improvisation and takes music beyond its notes on the page."

"Ferenc has taught my 9 year old son Ken for a year and a half, and my husband and I are very pleased with the results. Our son is high energy, but Ferenc has the patience of a saint and works with him carefully and calmly. Ken's focus and attention span have grown under Ferenc's instruction, and it's been a joy watching the music develop!

Ferenc was also able to help me develop vibrato, something my original violin instructor was unable to achieve during the 7 years I had instruction.

We highly recommend him."
