About Alisa
I began violin playing jazz/folk music with my dad and performing at different venues with him. I was always attracted to the variety of scales and sounds eastern music had to offer. I love the sound of a gypsy violin, how it can create such a strong sorrowful sound or how it can dance and sing.I am a violinist, singer and composer local to the greater Philadelphia area. I grew up improvising with my father in various settings; coffee shops, street corners and renaissance faires. As I grew up I began to appreciate classical music and the variety our history offers us. With the vast variety of repertoire and technical studies for violin, I became a dedicated classical violinist. I graduated with a degree in music and studied at conservatoire in Paris. After I left France I was inspired by the accessibility of a lot of music in Paris, and t
he acoustic relaxed sound I so often heard. I began to study jazz and return to my creative roots in music. Now I perform in jazz clubs, classical concert halls, recording studios as well as write and arrange for different productions and performances.

*** Lesson Details ***
I love to teach. I have taught students from ages 8-42 and am open to teach anyone above 7 and above. We will start with the Suzuki method to get the basics of violin and will progress to play pieces of music varying to your tastes and level. If you want to play Irish fiddle, we can have you playing jigs and reels in just a few months. If your interested in jazz we can have you playing standards or if you want to a play classical we can work towards you being able to sight read and perform pieces within 6 months.

Of course if you already play we can pick up where you left off. I strongly believe no matter what interest you have in violin, it is important to study classically to get the proper technique. All styles I teach will be supplemented with classical etudes and exercises.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to own a violin and be willing to purchase necessary equipment. (music, metronome, tuner, shoulder rest, etc... varies on student)

*** Specialties ***

Technique and theory, ear training, various styles, personal interests of the student

About Matthew
I started playing trumpet in grade school and was in the marching band the first year of high school. I then switched to playing upright bass in the orchestra. This led to me being a part of the jazz band and playing instrumentals for school musicals. Upon graduation time, I received the gold medal for music performance in strings. I was also an AP music theory student. After, I pursued a bachelor's degree in music and took education courses. I have tutored music theory and given instrument lessons, but they were always self employed or from the university.

I wish to help others make music an enjoying part of their lives, as it is in mine.

I believe that anyone has an innate musical ability. I have over 10 years of teaching experience and the most valuable lesson I have learned is adaptability. Lessons cannot be given in a cookie cutter form, they must be shaped to fit the individual.

About Dakota
I have been playing the violin for 24 years and have been teaching for 12. I received my Bachelor's at Mason Gross School of the Arts and am beginning my Master's in the fall. I am happy to work with students of all ages and levels. I find teaching to be an extremely rewarding experience and hope to extend my love and appreciation for music to my students. I believe that music should be accessible to all people and that everyone has an innate musical ability. My goal is to spread music to as many people as possible whether it be through performing or teaching. Although I use mostly the same books for my lessons, I adapt my teaching style to fit the student. Beginning by cultivating the students’ love and patience for music practice, we work on the foundation that will develop a strong technique. A well-developed technique allows a player
to communicate the emotion that they desire through his or her instrument. Together, we learn the skill of efficiency and develop the tools needed for self-practice.

The Violin Studio of Andrea Levine offers violin lessons for children, teens and adults, from beginners to advanced players. Lessons are conducted one-on-one in my private studio in the Spring Arts District of Philadelphia. I teach traditional, classical violin playing, and students can expect to gain not only a comprehensive understanding of violin technique, but also a thorough grasp of note-reading, musicality, tone production, rhythm, ear-training, theory and practice/learning techniques.

About Andrea
Music and the violin have always resonated strongly with me. After winning various competitions in my childhood years and traveling to China to perform as a teen, nothing seemed more natural than making a lifelong commitment to the violin. I moved to the culturally and musically-rich city of Boston, MA, to study violin performance for my undergraduate degree, and then I went on to complete a master’s degree with honors in Pittsburgh PA.

With 7 years of higher-education training, musical experiences, and the cultural influence of living in two big cities under my belt, I was ready to dive headfirst into a full-time professional career in music performance. Philadelphia, PA was the next stop for me and it didn’t take long to call this beautiful city home. Soon I was on stage—and under the stage in many cases!—with many of Philadelphia’s to
p professional orchestras and performing consistently with pop music artists like Josh Groban.

I have had the honor of working in varied professional settings and with inspiring musical colleagues around the world. These experiences have helped to transform me into a well-rounded musician who thrives on stage, in the pit, and behind a camera, who puts just as much passion into teaching Vivaldi to my students as into performing ACDC’s Back in Black to cheering crowds.

Along with performing and teaching, I also own an award-winning live musical entertainment company called Miss Musique, which provides live music for weddings, parties and other special events. And in my free time I enjoy doing yoga, checking out Philadelphia’s newest restaurants, and playing with my cat Mittens.
