I'm an experienced teacher of 12+ years, equally comfortable with kids and life-long learners. I'm very curious and always learning, and I love to share that inquisitive spirit with my students. Lessons will be structured around music that you enjoy, whether that is rock, classical, or jazz. Music theory and technique will be incorporated into the lesson from day one, but never at the expense of making music! I hold a B.M. in jazz performance and a M.M. in classical performance, and have performed all over the world. Let's set up your first lesson!

I take pride in shaping young beginners, as well as guiding more experienced musicians to becoming better guitarists.
In these lessons, we will dive into the history of blues, from the Mississippi Delta to Chicago, and learn guitar riffs by masters Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and beyond.
Students will learn how to play blues rhythm guitar parts and learn scale patterns and licks to improvise with.

For the guitar, the Blues is one of the most important styles to learn. My lessons will get you up to speed with blues theory and chords, as well as scales, modes and arpeggios that can be applied for improvisation. I also strive to show my students versatile and useful the blues can be to other genres, helping them to become well-rounded lead guitarists.
I am experienced with teaching beginners. I can teach beginner to advanced level rock/blues/jam and beginner to intermediate level jazz.
Learning a musical instrument is a journey of self-fulfillment, a new way of communicating and bonding with others, and heightens appreciation of music and life itself. I love opening that door for others and bringing them into the world of musicianship.

I taught myself blues guitar by playing along with the records of B.B. King, Eric Clapton and all the greats in between, so I know how it's done. As the author of several guitar method books, and a teacher for over 25 years, I have the materials and the experience to show you how as well.
About Paul Jared
I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Guitar Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.
Classical and Flamenco music are my primary involvement, as a teacher, performer and composer.

I am an accomplished guitar player in a variety of genres and have extensive experience with different bands. I studied guitar at Southern Oregon University, and then went on to teach guitar and piano at the Able Music School in Auckland, New Zealand, and with the Musicality Network in Portland, Oregon. I am an actively performing musician and recording artist; in the past, I have played with bands ranging from acoustic rock to punk, jazz to classical, Renaissance to reggae, blue-grass to heavy metal. I am a recent New York transplant, and am looking forward to sharing my love of guitar and piano with a new set of students!
I started teaching private lessons while living in Ashland, Oregon, and have continued teaching private lessons through today. I also taught at the Able Music Studio in Auckland, New Zealand for 2 1/2 years and then through the Musicality Network in Portland, Oregon for 1 year.

Guitar lessons are a fun, laid-back, and encouraging experience for anyone to pursue. My lessons are specifically designed to accomplish the goals of the student, whether it's as simple as playing along with your favorite songs, or obtaining the musical foundation to begin writing your own songs. Former students have thanked me for being laid-back, non-rigid, and down to earth. My diverse musical background lets me offer students of any genre a fast track to learning the skills they desire, and having fun along the way as well!
Most of my musical experience has entailed Rock, Indie-Rock, Blues, Acoustic, Bossa Nova, and Experimental/Contemporary. If students are looking to expand into a genre which I am not necessarily familiar with, I am always able to examine and learn the material myself in order to pass along to the student.
My students always decide the curriculum and pace which they would like their lessons to held at. I make sure to break the lesson down into simp
Classically trained musician with a fresh view on contemporary sounds and rhythms. I cut my teeth in the grueling, high-stakes orchestra scene of Westchester County but, I know that learning to play guitar and practicing violin concertos for hours on end are two very different things. WIth 4 years of experience in teaching guitar classes to young adults, I know that scales and music theory aren't necessarily best way to get up and running if you're just trying to impress your significant other with a rousing rendition of "Hotel California". With the knowledge of a former principal violist and the flexibility of a jaded millennial, I can get you playing "Wonderwall" by the end of the first lesson.
I started a rock band with my friends in high school, for which I played lead guitar and the occasional drum kit. Playing guitar (solo or in a band) is a lot like playing violin but, the learning curve isn't as steep. You only need to know a few guitar fundamentals before you're ready to play your favorite
After 4 years of providing guitar instruction in both the group and personal setting, I think I've figured out a way to get my students up and playing while providing the minimum amount of theory and technique instruction necessary to do so. I'll always ask you what your favorite genre of music is and then craft lessons and a curriculum around that. You'll always end each lesson with a tangible skill or song that you can put into practice right away. If we spend the first half of a lesson learning some chords, you'll learn a song that uses those chords in the second half. If you opt instead to tell me a song you'd like to learn, I'll teach you the song and make sure to emphasize the technique and theory components that the song uses.
Playing guitar should be fun, and taking lessons shouldn't feel like a chore. I'll teach you anything you want to learn as long as you approach each lesson with a clear mind and willingness to get better.
