Includes singing technique, movement and gestures, repertoire selection, musicality and interpretation, diction, pitch memory, sight-singing, etc., with a focus on Broadway and other musical theater repertoire, according to the student's experience and needs.
I accept students of all levels and ages 8 and up. Some of my students are working musicians, actors, and voice actors; many are teenagers who aspire to study music and/or theatre in college and become professional performers. And of course many are enthusiastic avocational singers and pianists who simply love music and want to work on their technique in a fun environment.

Both voice and piano lessons are based on a foundation of healthy technique while incorporating musicianship skills and encouraging the student to develop their own creativity. I am experienced in teaching many genres and styles including Broadway/musical theater, classical/opera, pop, rock, R&B, country, and folk. I encourage my students to explore new styles and apply good technique to any style they may choose to sing or play.
I love helping my students prepare for auditions. As an active performer myself I have auditioned many, MANY times for different organizations, and I have also been on "the other side of the table" and I know what qualities audition panels are looking for. As a member of both NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) I am constantly working to improve my teaching skills by keeping up with the latest pedagogical research. I love sharing new tips and techniques with my students!
I strive to create a lesson environment that is open and honest, where my students are never afraid to ask questions or try something new. I am always happy to explain concepts in a different way and I encourage improvisation and creativity in addition to healthy technique and strong musicianship.

Gabriel's approach is quite simple, yet very effective at developing the entire voice.
"There are two basic levels that every singer must address. The first one is addressing the condition of the body and voice and the second one is addressing the functioning of the voice and body."
I - Silent Foundation
The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.
II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors
This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you're incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.

As an educator and supporter of vocal talents Maestro Valentin established “The Valentin Vocal Studio” in New York City and contributed with his vocal expertise to “pierStudios” in Manhattan. Valentin is also the Founder and the Artistic Director of Vocal Productions NYC Corp, Vocal Pursuits LLC and Vocal Productions Bulgaria. I am a GRAMMY-winning choral singer and composer in the BMI Musical Theater Writing Workshop with a Masters Degree and Artist Diploma in Opera Performance from University of Cincinnati- CCM. I have also worked as a studio pianist for Marilyn Horne, Ron Raines, Deric Rosenblatt, Bill Neill, and several other NYC voice teachers.
As a teacher, I bring all of my diverse experiences together to teach classical singing technique as a means for effectively communicating and storytelling. Much of my technique involves identifying and releasing tension through proper breath management. We all tend to get in our own ways by trying to achieve a specific result, so I work with singers to find what their voices naturally sound like.
In addition, I offer coaching on musical style, acting, diction, and many other aspects of performing.

Jason holds a BM in voice performance from SUNY Fredonia and an MM and AD in opera performance from University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music. He has studied and performed at the Tanglewood Music Center, Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, Brevard Music Center, SongFest, and New Music on the Point.
