I found Jean to be very engaging and helpful, she was always willing to explain errors to me until I was actually able to understand what I did wrong. She not only helped me address the problems I had with the SAT, but also any anxiety behind it. Now I feel calmer and more prepared to face the SAT!

Need better scores? Or just help with homework? Contact me!

To help you reach your personal academic goals, (whether it be pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trig, pre-Calculus or Calculus, SAT, and/or the ACT test preparation, or may be GRE preparation for an older audience) I will find your weak topics and help you understand it fully. For that, I analyze your previous work and we discuss what you did and why. I will help you to see the logic in the solution and understand the relationship between concepts. Between sessions, I will happily answer short questions off the clock by email, or Skype.

For the SAT/ACT test takers my plan is usually for a student to take the practice test at home or school, then grade it and come back to me with the results. We will diagnose your problems (as in “didn’t have enough time”, “don’t know how to approach a problem like this”, “didn’t read the problem carefully”, “made a calculation error”, “didn’t know the definition” and so on) and work ...

MY MAT in Secondary English Education and my undergraduate education focused heavily on learning theory, practice and study skill strategies, which enables me to create tailored profiles for each of my students to increase their success rate on a variety of tests and evaluations. Having scored highly and taught students who also scored highly on the AP, SAT, ASVAB, GRE, CSET, CBEST and other academic tests, I have a personal experience with the testing process as well as with the study skills and content knowledge required to pass these tests.

About Clarissa
Focus on the student is paramount for my lesson planning. Each student will learn differently through varied interests, pacing needs, and goals for their language development. Thus, my approach and materials will vary depending on the needs and experience of the student. I want her or him to want to learn.

I teach a range of student types from young children looking to learn conversational French in an engaging format, to teens looking to polish their writing style in both English and French, to adults pursuing fluency for wok or leisure. I know my own hobbies (which include backpacking, hiking, travel, reading, and language learning) have influenced my linguistic journey, and my students' interests drive their own journey similarly.

I currently hold three degrees in French and Learning theory: a Masters in Secondary English& Learn
ing Theory, a Bachelor's in French & Comparative Literature, and an Associates in Early Childhood Learning & Development. This, combined with my extensive experience with the AP system and the time that I lived in and attended l'université in France saturate my pedagogical choices and methods in teaching both these subjects and the satellite subject areas such as diction, study skills, reading and writing.

In addition to over ten years of experience teaching, I also have firsthand experience learning four foreign languages, giving me a real-world glimpse into the challenges and the joys of a new language. It is my love of the learning process, patience and passion for these subjects that are most efficacious in the tutoring process.

bonne chance et à bientôt!

We will focus on test taking strategies , general subject area, specific challenging subject areas, and time management during the test. We will do mock tests leading up to the test date so you are comfortable taking the test.

About Mary
Welcome! I am a former teacher with 10+ years for experience. I teach all levels of English, Spanish, and test prep, especially math.

I attended Seton Hall University for Education and Spanish where I was able to travel to Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Spain, and Costa Rica. After graduation I attended Rutgers for English as a Second Language. I am certified in New Jersey.

In our first lesson I like to see what level students are, ask what their goals are, and begin lessons that target those goals. Personalized lessons are the most effective and motivating. I love to help my students accomplish their goals and enjoy the process!

Mary is a wonderful teacher. She is patient and bright and tailors her lessons to fit the needs and desires of the learner. I enjoy our sessions very much and have learned more Spanish working with her than in all of my past attempts to learn languages combined (from years of courses to Rosetta Stone). In ten hours I feel I have a good foundation for understanding the language and can form sentences and engage in conversations on my own. I look forward to continuing with her and learning even more!
