As the lead guitarist for a band for many years, I've gained some knowledge on performance and getting the best sound from the electric guitar. Let me take you on a journey of expression and exploration.
About John Henry
*** Studio Equipment *** music room seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment *** I would provide copies of some pages from the book. Just a need a guitar and quiet place to study. Also, parents must be present if the student is a minor.
*** Specialties *** folk acoustic, electric blues, Film Acting, Film auditioning
I grew up in the South Bronx during the 70s and 80s. I understand the importance of community and how a neighborhood can be destroyed if the people do not get involved and work together for real solutions. Music and films were my salvation. I began to write songs and play guitar at the age of ten, and 15 years ago I started a band to raise the awareness level of teens and adults regarding the world around them. The band is called Glass of Know. The group had songs playing on rotation on upstate NY
Although music was my first love I always had a fascination with film. I began to study with the successful theater and film coach Ruth Kulerman four years ago. After many lessons and plenty of encouragement from Ruth, I decided to start testing the waters. Early in 2007 I went out and started auditioning. The response was overwhelming and I landed 17 roles in 5 months. Not a bad problem to have your first time out of the gate. It wasn't prime time or the big screen, but it gave me enough confidence to continue to work hard and more importantly, I knew I had something special to offer.
I've had films in the Asian American Film Festival, New Film Maker Festival, and 2 years ago the film En Route won first place at the Milford Connecticut Film Festival, in which I was the lead. I was nominated for best actor at the Columbia film festival for the short Good Bye. In 2011 I was the lead in the film Down & Across which went to the Cannes film festival. I'm currently working on a TV pilot with the same team. The Coffee List was my first attempt at the writer, director, and actor. The film has been screened at International Manhattan Film Festival, The Katra Film Series and we came in 3rd place for the HollyShorts Challenge on Indi website.
Before learning Classical and Jazz guitar in school, I was a full on Rocker!!! I played SRV/Hendrix style blues rock to what is now old school metal...Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc. I loved early Prog Rock, pre-era of a million extra strings and down tuned everything. I still love to shred, so if you're still reading this, we may be a fit. Thanks!!!!
- I have a record of success with students of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and goals - I teach using a variety of methods and styles, including my own authored books - I own a music academy where I train others to be successful instructors - I have a very high student retention rate - I've been playing over 25 years - I have a BA in Music from Florida State University - I have been teaching for 17 years - I have personally taught over 15,000 private lessons - I have played in numerous bands - I have gigged professionally
*** Lesson Details *** I customize the lessons to the goals of each student. Whether it's for fun and leisure or a driven passion with serious goals, I can give you the tools to accomplish what you want! I love teaching people through the music that they love. So, whether that's Britney Spears, Metallic
a, or Bach, the concepts underlying music are basically the same. I will make sure you can play the music you love and hopefully help you explore new music as well.
*** Studio Equipment *** In my studio I have a Guild Classical, Alvarez Acoustic, and Epiphone Electric.
All the accessories needed as well. Music Stands, Foot Stools, Picks, Straps, Slides, Tuners, Books, etc.
I also use an iMac in lessons. I like incorporating technology when appropriate, to look up tunes, or do a recording session, it's a necessary tool to learn nowadays.
*** Travel Equipment *** I will bring everything we need to conduct a proper lesson remotely. I do recommend you have your own guitar though.
*** Specialties *** For all the advanced knowledge I have and years of teaching students of all kinds, my favorite is teaching beginners. I love seeing someone come in with no knowledge of music, and taking them from milestone to milestone. I love watching new musicians blossom.
I play, teach, and perform most frequently in classical, rock, blues, and pop genres.
Daniel is a fun and easygoing instructor who tailors to your needs, adapting to your musical interests as well as your preferred lesson style. And it is clear that he has years of teaching experience under his belt. He has also helped me improve my music theory understanding, which has become rusty over the years. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor.

Dan is an amazing teacher. I am early in my lessons with him but I am sure he will take me where I need to be as a player. He is patient and encouraging. I look forward to meeting with him and representing him the best way I can by becoming a fine Uke player under his tutelage . I highly and profoundly recommend him as a teacher.
You'll be taught everything you need from the basics of tuning to being able to figure out what Key, Triads, Modes, and feel of playing songs on your own by using Music theory and my approach to how you should view the Guitar.
PLEASE READ : Thank you.

James brings experience, patience, and a solid plan to help make you a better musician. As a beginner he is helping me grasp the fundamentals so that I have the tools necessary to take on the next challenge in my journey to become a musician.

Jimmy has a nice balance between encouraging interest and basic understanding of music theory, with the fun of learning an instrument. His clear passion for music and teaching others to enjoy it too helps me progress on my personal goals, timeline and availability.

Jimmy is very knowledgeable and very approachable. In a short time, he has helped me to unlock the fretboard. Highly recommended.
I have taught guitar since 2012 and have been playing since 2000. I am happy to take students at the beginner and intermediate levels. I believe strongly in integrating music theory and ultimately moving students toward musical self-suffiency, rather than focusing exclusively on learning particular pieces.
Hi, there! My name is Ben and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have taught students of all ages from 3 to adult. I have experience not just with teaching but also with writing, recording, and performing music in successful bands and on multiple instruments and in multiple genres. I am comfortable teaching piano, guitar, and bass guitar, ukulele, and I especially love teaching music theory. I have extensive theory training at the college level and have written and composed extensively in the classical, rock, jazz, and folk traditions. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your musical goals.
Ben has been instructing my 2 kids (now aged 11 and 9) in-home for at least 5 years. We started off with piano for the first few years but then switched to a combination of piano and acoustic guitar (half a session dedicated to each instrument).
He is patient, kind, and highly knowledgeable. I clearly see the upward trajectory in my kids' musical capabilities. One of my kids can be difficult to deal with, especially when he is tired, but Ben would mold his approach to the lesson on the spot to keep my kid engaged (e.g., instead of continuing the lesson on the actual piano, he'd switch to a fun music-oriented game).

I hadn't played a musical instrument since elementary school when I started Ukulele lessons with Ben. Ben started from the beginning, answered all my questions along the way, and built upon that information in each lesson. It wasn't in a didactic way, but in a way that was really customized to fit my Ukulele lesson goals. Ben's teaching style is very flexible also. I had some Ukulele lesson books I had been gifted and we worked from those. I didn't feel that I had to buy a bunch of additional equipment, books, etc.
I recommend Ben as a music teacher. He is understanding, encouraging, and inspirational. I am looking forward to continuing lessons with Ben and JC Instrumental.

Ben has been working with our daughter since January 2019, when she turned 6 1/2. He arrives at our home on time each week and he works with her at an age appropriate level. We appreciate that he recognizes the effort she puts into the weeks when she practices often and he gently makes her aware when she hasn't practiced enough. He always speaks with her in a kind way and with us in a collaborative manner. We all want her to enjoy her piano experience, and we are thankful to have found Ben just a few blocks away from our home.
Andrew is an experienced educator, having worked as a private instructor since the age of thirteen. Performing in numerous bands playing music from jazz to rock and funk has given Andrew a wide variety of skills to offer to any student, regardless of style. His technical knowledge of the instrument can keep more advanced players entertained, while his patience, teaching experience and practical advice can help any beginner get started on the right path.
I am a guitarist, educator and composer based in New York City. I recently graduated from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, completing a BFA with Honors in December 2018. Since moving to New York, I have been able to study with some of the world’s finest musicians, including many I grew up listening to such as Lage Lund, Aaron Parks and Peter Bernstein. These experiences have given me an insight into music that I could not have gained otherwise, as well as opened me up to different varieties of jazz and styles of music. You can find me playing in jazz venues around the city such as ShapeShifter Lab.
Music has always been a part of my life, beginning to play my first instrument, the piano, at two years of age. Then, at the age of nine, I started learning the guitar. Like most young musicians at that age, I began this part
of my musical journey, focusing on rock, winning the Shredding Contest in the under 19 category at the Vancouver Guitar show when I was fourteen. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I became a dedicated jazz musician, discovering a true passion for this genre. During my high school years, I was featured in many honour ensembles and won numerous awards, the most notable being Most Outstanding Guitarist at MusicFest Canada, a national level high school music festival, in both 2013 and 2014. In the summer of 2016, I was selected to play in the Ottawa Youth Jazz Summit, an ensemble put together to feature Canada's top jazz musicians under the age of 25. I was honoured to have my musicianship recognized by winning the Stingray Rising Stars Award.

I knows that each student is different and has a different relationship with music. I like to tailors my lessons to fit the students specific needs. Having experience in many different styles, I'm able to explore what the student wants to learn, while still teaching them the fundamentals of the guitar and music theory.
We'll work on guitar fundamentals, sound, technique, combined with learning music from the artists that inspire you. We'll decide on a couple short-term and long-term goals, which will help you see your progress and keep you motivated! I can also teach you the fundamentals of music theory and ear training; perfect for someone planning on applying to music college.
I'm a professional guitar player from Norway and a recent graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music. I'm currently doing my graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music. I have toured in places like Argentina, Norway and Japan, and have played some of New York's most famous jazz rooms like Smalls and Dizzy's club at the Lincoln Center, and other notable east coast venues like the Side Door, Scullers, Regattabar and South Jazz Kitchen. I am comfortable showing you the ropes for any style you enjoy within contemporary music, such as rock, pop and jazz. I have won several notable awards and scholarships for my playing and writing, including the notable Berklee Jimi Hendrix award. I am excited to be working with you!
Lesson topics could be: - Guitar fundamentals, technique and sound - Pop/Rock/Jazz guitar playing - Impro
visation - How to learn from your heroes and favorite recordings - Ear training - Preparation for music college auditions/entrance exams
Schedule notes: As I am a full time graduate student, I try to keep most of my teaching to Saturday and Sunday, and possibly Friday. However, you are free to contact me for other times, if these days are very inconvenient for you of course, and I'll try my best to work with you!
Age/experience notes: If you're booking for your child I'd recommend booking 30min lessons, maximum 45min lessons. I'll recommend the same time frame for any age if you are a complete beginner, as I can show you more than enough helpful material in 30mins, that'll keep you busy!
Tim is an amazing teacher! I recently started playing guitar and Tim has helped me improve with each lesson. He is kind, understanding, patient, and knowledgable. Tim teaches students of all levels. If you do well in your lesson, he might even treat you to a homemade Norwegian cat cookie:)

Had a great lesson with Tim! I got a lot of helpful advice and while having a great time!!
Versatile teacher ranging from funk to folk! Experienced guitar player for 10+ years with local bands and taught by a former teacher now on tour with Karen Jonas Band! ALL people welcomed! I want to get to know YOU and be apart of YOUR journey as an artist and as a person!
I want to help students discover the love of music and develop confidence through craftsmanship the way my teachers did for me.
He is a very friendly and encouraging teacher. Lessons were flexible and engaging. He himself is an excellent guitarist and is very passionate about music. I would highly recommend him as a guitar instructor.
I love electric guitar! You will learn both rhythm and lead playing, learn to write songs, play your favorite songs, solo, and improvise. As you progress you'll learn songs by your favorite artists and maybe you'll enjoy some of my favorite acoustic guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Gary Clark Jr, Joe Pass, Sigur Ros, Led Zeppelin, Polyphia, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the list is endless.
Hi, I'm Matt and I teach guitar. I know what it's like, trying to learn on your own with Youtube videos and online lessons, and it can be not only tough, but boring. My goal is to make music lessons as fun and engaging as possible while designing each lesson specifically to each student's musical tastes and needs.
The best part of our lessons is always the coffee shop jam we hold twice a year to let students play out in public.
Prices below are for lessons at my Bushwick music studio. I teach out of my home studio in Bushwick and in the West Village area.
I have been teaching music for twelve years. I earned my B.A. in Music from Belmont University and I'm currently working towards a M.M. in Songwriting at NYU. I co-founded Nashville Rock band The Delta Saints, have performed guitar in the musical Wicked on broadway, and have w
ritten and performed with artists like Steuart Smith of The Eagles and Tony-nominated Jeremy Pope. I produce, perform, teach, and write music based out of my home studio with my wife in Brooklyn, NY.
Matt was the first guitar instructor I've had that has actually taught me enough to perform! I came into his instruction learning only a couple songs by heart, and in a few months I was able to pick up on common chord progressions in popular songs and learn them so quickly. My goal was to be able to play open mic nights at my local college bar, and Matt showed me the tricks to sing and play guitar at the same time. His studio is so welcoming, lots of natural light, and easy to play a guitar in. It was nice that his wife was around sometimes during the class (made me feel more comfortable). Awesome teacher!

Matt is such a great teacher! I went into guitar lessons just hoping to be able to learn to play a few songs, but I've been taking lessons for months now. His studio is super cool and it's fun to jam out and learn songs, plus Matt is helping me work on my own songwriting.
