*** Lesson Details ***
With over 20 years teaching experience, Nick is patient with children & adults. He has a creative, unique pedagogy emphasizing hearing through singing, ear-training & natural, organic listening. Nick instills healthy absorption of music while students have fun learning their music, sight reading, internalizing with focus on rhythm and time.
As a student, you will get to work on music that you, the student select as well as work on sight-reading, technique, ear-training. We will also work out of method books and use other sources of information.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stands, instrument stands, classical foot pedals, classical guitar pillows, guitar amps, guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, drum set. Students usually provide their own instruments but it's possible to borrow an instrument during the lesson at the studio on the first lesson. (free street parking right in front!)

*** Specialties ***
Nick's pedagogy emphasizes ear-training, singing, reading and truly hearing the music we are working on. Rather than rote teaching and guitar tablature, he instills natural listening, transcribing, sight-reading and proper technique. Lessons are always enjoyable as Nick observes each student's unique needs and listen's to their song preferences and musical goals. Students have the opportunity to learn pieces and genres they select and they are trained to figure out tunes by ear (ear-training) and transcribe.

Nick teaches:

-classical guitar and Brazilian guitar (nylon 6 string and nylon 7 string guitar)
-acoustic steel string guitar, electric 6 string and electric 7 string guitar
- jazz guitar + an eclectic mix of styles: blues, Brazilian music, Latin Jazz, Afro-Peruvian, Indian music, rock, heavy metal, funk, R & B, Motown, reggae + other genres.

I have a degree in music, and have taught at three summer camps three music stores and two universities.

I have been teaching guitar since 1990. I teach ages 9 and up, and I aim to tailor lessons to work with your natural strengths and learning style.

I offer note-reading but it is optional. We can study guitar using tablature and chord diagrams. The important thing is to make great music, enjoy the process, play songs you like, make steady progress and become independent.

If I teach you well, eventually you won't need me very much- you'll be able to figure things out on your own,

I started playing guitar when I was 4. I've played classical, rock, a bit of jazz, folk, a little bluegrass, and fingerstyle. I love the guitar and I love teaching!

About Carla
Music is my LIFE!

After more than 25 years of teaching at music camps, music stores, 3 colleges and my home, I completely understand that the lessons are all about YOU, the student: what you want to learn, taught to you in a way that works for your brain and personality.

And if you don't know exactly what you want to learn, that's OK. We can figure that out together as we go along learning the basics.

I help students learn to play songs by artists they like.

I also help students write songs, or put chords to their existing lyrics.

For those who are interested, I teach note-reading (not required) and theory (not required) and ear training (not required).

The lessons are always tailored towards your (the student's) goals.

I also teach classical and fingerstyle guitar for the occasional person who specifically wants
either of those styles.

My purpose as a teacher: help people have a fun experience, learning in an organized way, adapted to your learning style and goals, while learning to do exactly what you wanted to do when you decided you wanted to play the guitar.

In 1994, I was let go from my job at a music store because I was sick. Which sounds awful, but was the best thing to ever happen to me- it was then I got over my fears and became a full-time musician, teaching and writing and performing. I have never looked back! I may not be a household name, but I am living the dream.

Whether you want to sing to your kids or play for an audience of 50,000, or just play guitar for yourself, you first have to get started.

Wait no longer! The guitar is calling!

Carla is a fantastic teacher! She keeps the lesson lively and interesting, pushes you along but not too much.
In just the handful of lessons I have had so far my level has jumped further than expected.
Carla has been very helpful with the "tricky-bits" that have caused me issues. Helped to remedy them and move on.
Look no further for a great teacher, better yet I'll keep her to myself.

He managed to get my son enthused about music at such a young age. He made lessons fun. Thanks greatly to Mr. Ruiz's genuine encouragement and patient coaching, my son continues to study and enjoy the instrument today. Thanks Jake!

I have many decades as a guitarist, performer and teacher. I'm particularly good at teaching the basics in a way that makes it clear to students how valuable they are and the worth of rudiments in becoming a skillful player. Of course I make sure that every student 'plays' with the instrument because as important as mastery is equally important is comfort and creativity. BTW I also teach acting to musicians, opening up the heart and soul so that the players spirit comes through the guitar.

About Ari
I am a guitarist, bassist, writer and composer based in South Brooklyn. With international touring experience, songs licensed to film and television, and a degree from The New School, I have an approach that is both holistic and comprehensive. I am easygoing, adaptable and excited to approach music education from an inclusive angle!

I teach students of all ages, and have given an average of 40 lessons per week in a variety of formats (private, group, after school programs, online). My tastes in music are as varied as my experiences - nothing is off limits and everything has the potential to teach us both something.

I own and operate an independent music collective/label with a focus on thoughtful rock, pop and R&B. We are adept at finding the right team for our artists, and have had success in music and video production, national tourin

I am endorsed by Lakland basses and am a member of SESAC. I love coffee, chocolate, and like my eggs over medium.

Classically trained musician with a fresh view on contemporary sounds and rhythms. I cut my teeth in the grueling, high-stakes orchestra scene of Westchester County but, I know that learning to play guitar and practicing violin concertos for hours on end are two very different things. WIth 4 years of experience in teaching guitar classes to young adults, I know that scales and music theory aren't necessarily best way to get up and running if you're just trying to impress your significant other with a rousing rendition of "Hotel California". With the knowledge of a former principal violist and the flexibility of a jaded millennial, I can get you playing "Wonderwall" by the end of the first lesson.

About Alexei
Prior to working in software, I played in many classical, folk and rock ensembles throughout the country. I took private violin / viola lessons for 8 years, and private guitar lessons for 5 years. I was the principal violist in my high school orchestra, 1st violin player in the Greater Westchester Youth Symphony and a violist in the USC Concert Orchestra in Los Angeles. I've been in the classical realm for long enough to realize that picking up and playing a guitar is not the same as playing violin and practicing it for many hours.

I started a rock band with my friends in high school, for which I played lead guitar and the occassional drum kit. (If you're interested this a link to one of our performances: https://youtu.be/i7I9l3LMJyc) Playing guitar (solor or in a band) is a lot like playing violin but, the learning curve isn't as s
teep. You only need to know a few guitar fundamentals before you're ready to play your favorite rock and acoustic songs. My lessons and teaching style reflect this.

After 4 years of providing guitar instruction in both the group and personal setting, I think I've figured out a way to get my students up and playing while providing the minimum amount of theory and technique instruction necessary to do so. I'll always ask you what your favorite genre of music is and then craft lessons and a curriculum around that. You'll always end each lesson with a tangible skill or song that you can put into practice right away. If we spend the first half of a lesson learning some chords, you'll learn a song that uses those chords in the second half. If you opt instead to tell me a song you'd like to learn, I'll teach you the song and make sure to emphasize the technique and theory components that the song uses.

Playing guitar should be fun, and taking lessons shouldn't feel like a chore. I'll teach you anything you want to learn as long as you approach each lesson with a clear mind and willingness to get better.

I never played an instrument before my lessons with Alexei but he was a great teacher and I learned a lot of chords each lesson. By now, I can confidently play in front of my friends and have them sing along, and also be able to improvise and add my own rendition to each piece. This was more than what I set out to do when I started taking lessons, so I'm very happy! Alexei is also very flexible with his times and was able to accommodate my hectic schedule.
