I think the flute can produce such beautiful and colorful sounds and is a tool for great expression. Therefore, in lessons, covering all the basics of proper tone production, breath support, vibrato, musicality and technique will ensure a solid foundation with which even the highest levels of success can be built upon. I teach these concepts through the use of various exercises, etude/method books, as well as duet books which are incredibly essential for musical development and are also fun!

About Bill
Bill is multi-instrumentalist, jazz musician, composer, arranger and educator. He developed a strong connection to music early in life through some family tradition, encouraging parents and many inspiring and influential teachers. He has gone on to perform alongside a number of noteworthy artists and ensembles and has toured extensively overseas and throughout North America.

His love for music came to life though performances with several ensembles in public school, regional big bands and his own jazz saxophone quartet. He is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music's Jazz Studies program and has recently become a graduate of New Jersey City University's M.M. Multiple Woodwind Performance program.

Following two years performing abroad on cruise ships and the national tour of Young Frankenstein: The Musical, he was dr
awn back to New York City. Performing regularly on piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and all saxophones, he is proving to be valued asset in the NYC music scene.

Bill performs regularly with his group, Bill Todd and the Sixth Generation, while also working as a Broadway pit musician, a sideman and a private music teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every student is unique, therefore, lessons are designed to fit the student individually. My teaching style is molded to satisfy each students wants and needs. I also like to focus on developing proper playing habits. I see it as my job to help my students understand and develop the proper techniques to eliminate bad habits in order for them to be the best they can be on their instrument. Lessons are about having fun making music, learning, and improving.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stands and keyboard for harmonic discussions.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to bring their own music notebook and their own instrument. They may also need to purchase their own lesson books when the time comes.

*** Specialties ***
I can help my students learn how to play in a variety of styles ranging from classical (solos, chamber music, etudes, etc.) to jazz (improvisation, harmony, etc.). Whether they're working on a song to play at school, a NYSSMA or All County solo, or just learning for fun, I will help them play to the best of their ability.

Bill is great, and I would recommend him for players of all ages. I played flute in middle school and high school and wanted to get back into playing after having not touched my instrument for 15+ years. I found Bill on Take Lessons and was excited to begin lessons after reading his many glowing reviews. Although I was nervous about essentially having to start from scratch all over again with the flute, Bill has been kind, patient and lots of fun to work with. He is an extremely talented musician, and is very good at figuring out what I'm doing wrong with respect to air flow, embouchure, etc., and recommending how to correct it. Although I have a lot of work ahead of me I'm so enjoying playing again, and this time with much better sound, thanks to Bill!

Composer here, who studied with Bill. A kind and insightful teacher! Bill was always ready to help with odd requests for pieces I was working or interested in as we went over piano topics, music theory, and ear training. Gave me a great foundation to work with.

Sarah believes in helping students set their own goals and markers of success. The knowledge passed down to her students consists of practical techniques for approaching the instrument, the embodiment of rhythm, and a natural approach to musicality. With these skills, students can gain confidence and contentment in their journey of studying a musical instrument. This holds true whether the student is a complete beginner, an enthusiast, or an advanced student aiming for a career in music.

Sarah is currently pursuing her doctorate in flute performance at The Graduate Center, CUNY. Her dissertation is an exploration of the narratives, techniques, and histories of flute masterclasses. In addition to private teaching, she is also a music professor at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn. Sarah holds a master's degree in music performance from New York University where she studied with one of the great living innovators of the flute.

About Sarah
The New York Times praised Sarah for combining "thoughtful musicality with virtuosity in her alternately energetic and delicate account of a flute line laden with light multiphonics and unusual timbres." A leading performer of contemporary classical music, Sarah is a member of The Parhelion Trio, an all-female flute, clarinet, and piano ensemble known for their energetic and "effervescent" (The Strad) playing. She is also a frequent contributor to the New York Philharmonic's Very Young Composers Program, where she gives demonstrations on the capabilities of the flute.

Out of all teachers and Gleb is the expert in so many ways teaching and applying the lessons to stick and to create a great Saxaphone player. He has so many techniques in his arsenal to make any student become a Saxaphone player and a good one. His patience, his depth of understanding the music and the student and how to apply make it click. He works for the music and for the student rather than anything else. Gleb, please keep on teaching. You aren't just a teacher, you are a music therapist and a professional one of a kind. As a teacher, my goal is to instruct as well as inspire each student to reach for his or her highest potential. I hope to give each student the tools to progress so that one day they can be their own best teacher, and play with a sound and style that is uniquely their own. Most importantly, I hope to instill a desire to learn and a mindset that the art of flute playing is fun and that it is just as we call it--playing.
Parental support and involvement is key to any child’s progress. All levels of NYSSMA are taught and prepared for perfect scores .

About Daniel
Hello! I am a saxophonist, jazz musician, woodwind player, and music educator. I have a degree in Jazz Performance from William Paterson University, where I studied with Mulgrew Miller, Harold Mabern, Vincent Herring, Rich Perry, Bill Mobley, and many more of New York/New Jersey's finest musicians. I have experience playing professionally in jazz ensembles (as both a sideman and leader), pit orchestras, and wedding/cover bands.

My teaching career began informally while I was in high school, showing friends the basics of what I knew at the time on different instruments. I would also give some lessons to family friends, usually the younger siblings who were just starting out in 5th or 6th grade band. After I graduated from college in 2016, I began teaching professionally at various music studios throughout the North Jersey area, and thr

Very experienced in teaching flute from beginners to adults! I have a background in both jazz and classical so whatever you want to learn, I can teach!

About Alexandra
I've been singing for as long as I've been talking. The daughter of a drummer and a dancer music has been a huge part of my life since day one. Although as a young child I sang all the time and was in musicals, at age 7 I began to play the flute and intensely study both classically and in jazz. In high school as I became more serious about jazz, I also rediscovered my love for singing. I was playing and singing in my high school big bands as well as the Jazz Academy of Washington's jazz orchestra and a self lead quintet, The Red Line Quintet that both toured as well as playing many venues in the DC area. I would later be a teacher at the Jazz Academy of Washington's summer camp for 4 years, teaching instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages. I graduated with a degree in jazz studies from SUNY Purchase where I studied jazz and studied voi
ce privately with renowned vocalist Alexis Cole. Because of my training with Alexis, I not only have knowledge of jazz vocals but also extensive training in technique. I lead a quintet that has released a record and gone on three tours as well as playing in many other bands all around New York city as well as having been one of the finalists in the Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition.
