Upright Bass is my main instrument. It's what I love and I want to share that love with anyone who wants to play the bass. The lessons are your time as a student. I am here for you and I am here to guide you on the path to success. What I think is really important is always being goal oriented. We will take what you want to do with the bass and plan how we will get there using technique exercises, solo pieces, and fun stuff you choose to learn.

Sara has a great eye for detail, and has various ways of articulating what she either sees or hears in a person's playing. She does well in meeting the student where they are in order to encourage them along the way, while maintaining the teacher student relationship, something not easily done. Her experience, willingness to help and patience all make her a very excellent instructor in my opinion!

Sara is patient, professional, thorough and encouraging. She is really helping me along with my bowing technique. Highly recommended :)

"Darren Sacks is a fantastic bass player and teacher. I have improved quickly with him as my instructor. He helped me prepare for a solo in my high school orchestra and I felt that I was as prepared as I could have been. I was able to make it into my local district orchestra with his help. He's very passionate about his craft, and it shows through in his teaching."

"Excellent Teacher

Along with being incredibly knowledgeable, Alex has the patience and communication skills that really make him excel as a teacher. As a complete beginner to the upright bass (and music in general), I find Alex breaks concepts down in a clear, step-by-step fashion, so that it is not overwhelming. He also gives useful tips on how to be a better learner when tackling challenges, which helps make my personal practice even more effective. Alex is approachable and eager to answer questions even in between classes - I highly recommend him as teacher!"

"Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge."
