Vince began playing trumpet in 1998. He attended lessons at elementary school. Vince soon won principle chair in school ensembles; later with select county and state wide bands. He competed in annual solo competitions performing classical and jazz trumpet throughout middle and high school.

In 2003, Vince began studying trumpet privately with Mark Klose; later with John Maguda. Vince primarily studied from methods including: Arban's Complete Conservatory Method, Schlossberg's Daily Drills and Technical Studies, Clarke's Technical Studies, and Stamp's Warm-Ups & Studies. Vince also studied solo repertoire by Hindemith, Haydn, and Kennan among others.

While cultivating classical foundation, Vince developed jazz chops by listening, transcribing, and studying many jazz greats including Louis Armstrong, Clifford Brown, Donald

I enjoy nurturing musical creativity in my
students.

It is Rapturous for me when a student realizes
their own musicality by going past just
playing the notes on the page, to actively
expressing the Message (which could be a
Thought, Emotion, or a Scene) that is
inherent in the piece.

In a Brass instrument lesson, I have the student play:
-A quick and effective warm-up with me.
-A quick review of their assigned
technical exercises.
-Their assigned Etude or Chart or Solo.
-A Duet with Me.

Technical aspects of Performance:
1. A mastery of ability to Sight Sing.
2. Clean Articulation.
3. A wide (and well-sounding) Range.
4. Moving between partials is Flexible.
5. A beautiful Tone.

I wish for my students to become more than
just good instrumentalists, I want for them
to always have fun with music. When a
student realizes that music can ultimately be
Emotional and Creative Outlet for them,
they will be Musicians for life!

About Scott

I am a Bass Trombonist, but teach all brass instruments. I have been teaching for 20 years. I help my students build their Tone, Technique and Articulation by teaching a simple Warm-Up routine. I have written an 8-page eBook entitled "Optimal Brass Playing" that describes ten areas of best practi

Mr. Scott really is a nice person to meet. For my first voice lessons, He helped me identify what range I was comfortable with and introduced a few of his works that opened my perspective on reading music. He knows how to teach his material if you specify what exactly you want to accomplish.
Mike
Scott is someone who expertly emphasizes both the fundamentals of trombone playing and musicianship. I have had the opportunity to read his melodious etudes arrangements with him and his arrangements are expertly crafted to force the performers to work on listening, phrasing, intonation and sound quality all in one fell swoop. Scott's attitude is very warm and not condescending in the slightest. He is very positive while always encouraging the player to grow. If you are a low brass player who wants a deeper understanding on the intricacies of low brass performance and overall musicianship, you should absolutely give Scott a try.

My son started playing trumpet with Caleb in 5th grade. He is now a junior. He currently plays with the Whitney Young Jazz Band, as well as with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra-Jazz.

"I've had many teachers in the past who only taught me how to perform well with the emphasis on technicality and repeptition; however, Tom created space for me to appreciate each and every bar rather than focusing on finishing a song. As a student who has become well-adjusted to structure, I learned the beauty of improvisation informed by theory through Tom. He is attentive, passionate, and always makes sure I got the concept he's teaching. He has a rare gift of creating such an intimate, peaceful environment where I can feel at ease and really thrive in playing music. It was in these calm moments my passion for jazz sparked more and more. I'm truly thankful to have had Tom as my mentor/teacher.
