I have been teaching music for about 25 years mostly on the guitar but I also give lessons on the bass, piano, and ukelele. I give lessons to beginner and intermediate students of all ages. I can’t say enough about Paul. Aside from his technical skill he was able to work with me on just the right level with just the right sense of humor! I wish I could have continued but my schedule made it impossible. But thanks to Paul I now have greater technical knowledge and will be able to go a bit future on my own, at least until until we can continue our lessons! I will truly miss our our time at the piano. You would be quite lucky to have Paul as your teacher!

About Gregory
As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.
I used to go to lessons and become so motivated and inspired that I thought I could change the world. I always knew that I would want to give back exactly that. As my performance opportunities grew into venues like Churchill Grounds, The Rialto, and The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta
and Radio City Music Hall, 54 Below, The Jazz Standard, Bowery Ballroom, Shapeshifter and Flushing Town Hall in New York, my fire for wanting to develop my teaching did also. I was always thinking back to what my old teachers gave me, inspiration. I then understood that inspiration is the key to success in life.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will be something the student looks forward to every week. We will work through common method books and learn material that the student has an interest in. For example, some students want to learn to play high notes, a popular song, improvise, or write their own songs. I am a laid back guy, but I do expect effort in the lessons and at home. I believe whatever you put into music is what you get out of it, and I will inspire and motivate the student to get as much out of the lessons as they can. Students will create, with my advisement, and update short term and long term goals every few months.

I have had several lessons so far with Gregory and as an experienced trumpet player can recommend him extremely highly.
I am getting back into the trumpet following a gap after playing for 10 years when I was at high school. Gregory has really helped getting my technique and sound going again, I have been really pleased with my improvement. He has a great demeanour and has been great fun to work with. He is also an excellent player, and is highly reliable and easy to schedule with.

I offer lessons to students that have a desire to improve their playing and knowledge of music.

A brief summarization of my process:

-Establish concepts for healthy practice routine with the student. The type of practice is more important than the raw amount of practice.

-Set a 3-4 month goal for study outlining key issues.
-Identify strengths and areas of improvement in the student as they appear in the weeks.
-At the end of the 3 months, all this work and practice comes together in either a recital or a special project (audition, recording, etc.).

-Retrospective review and planning for next set of months.

I offer fun, creative, serious ways of learning how to be a complete musician, I am able to teach you how to play piano at a beginning to intermediate level, guitar, mostly beginning level, voice any level but not expert yet in all of this and so that
is why I take lessons myself in NYC to always get better. I am trained in the classical methods, but happy to experiment with others. I believe a solid technique in any level is the foundation and then, if you need more expertise, I am happy to refer you to others I know who teach in that style.

Each lesson , depending on your age, will have some kind of technical work, such as drills, work on whatever level you are at in music theory, sight reading, musicality and all components that would make you a complete musician, as I have been trained You will also have some FUN because it just would get boring and then practicing would be a pain instead of inspiring you. Games, little fun tests spelling musical words and the like,.

So, yes, great equipment at various studios that I can teach at all over the NYC metro area. If curious, for piano lessons, can use a portable keyboard as well as a "regular " one :)

Mostly classical, but have at times worked with some Broadway singers, got them to sing technically correct, then referred them to a more appropriate teacher.

Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in Music, then spent two years playing in Europe, before returning home and forming the band Not Heaven; we played the club circuit, Danceteria to CBGB.

I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Guitar Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.

Classical and Flamenco music are my primary involvement, as a teacher, performer and composer.

Music Theory is just like grammar - the grammar of music. Don't let that scare you! Studying at the Mannes School of Music (a conservatory notorious for its very intense Music Theory classes) I have learned great strategies for tackling its difficulty. I will break down complex chordal harmony or counterpoint and give simple steps in order for you to completely understand the material. Or maybe you have no background in Music Theory - that is great too! I can start simply with learning how to reading music. A good foundation is very necessary! :)

Rebecca is the friendly, passionate and knowledgeable teacher. She is always well-prepared, and suggests great solutions about the problems that I have. I got many invaluable tips from her. I am very sad that I cannot take her lessons anymore due to my moving to other city, but I highly recommend her lessons.

Brian not only teaches you the fundamentals of your specific instrument he also teaches you about music in general! I started with Saad at a music camp upstate I was attending and of which he was composition faculty. Having taken plenty of music theory in the past but no formal composition, I didn’t know what to expect. First off, Saad’s manner couldn’t have been more calming or inviting from the very beginning, and that really built a great rapport between us and allowed me to do my best work. Secondly, based on my accounts of my past training, it took little time for Saad to identify what were my strengths and what we needed to study in order to ensure my best compositional outputs. We studied invertible counterpoint, a complex subject fundamental to nearly all forms of advanced classical counterpoint. Saad made the subject really approachable through intricate but understandable explanations of different concepts and provided really illustrative examples of each concept. Even a year after those several weeks of study, in which I have hardly written nearly the number of contrapuntal exercises as I did in the weeks during and after Saad’s tutelage, I still find canon and fugue writing to be doable and even fun, testament to how I was able to hold on to Saad’s teachings even long after working with him. I couldn’t recommend Saad’s abilities and qualities higher to anyone wishing to take composition lessons, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that he is an accomplished, experienced, fascinating, and highly-sought-after composer in his own right. Even after working with dozens of different teachers in different musical disciplines, I have found my studies with Saad to be among the absolute most rewarding.

Saad was able to guide me into directions in my compositions I wouldn’t have thought would be possible otherwise. I recommend him highly as he pushed me to work as hard as I could on my pieces, while at the same time highlighting pertinent contemporary repertoire in our lessons.
