Roberta was patient and was obviously an experienced teacher. I teach and I understand what it takes to put a lesson together so that the student gets the most out of it, while pushing the student to do better, but not too much to discourage them from moving forward. She hits that sweet spot! I would recommend her to anyone who was serious about learning.

she has got a very lovely and cheerful personality. It made me really want to practice more piano even though i haven't played it for months.

Leaning the "Why" and "How" of music (the theory of music) can enhance your understanding of your instrument, composition, and even your overall appreciation of music. Though often music has been composed from a more intuitive state of mind, which is important as this is where the personal voice arises, by understanding it from a theoretical level it can feed your creative mind ideas so you can reinvent it in your own composing, or it can help you better understand a piece of music you're performing for memorizing and relating it to other music you may have learnt or will learn. As a professional musician I have found that theory knowledge, in combination with a more intuitive working on understanding sound as well as a lot of discipline, has greatly enhanced all the different activities I do as a musician.

I don't have many strictly "just" music theory students, but I often incorporate music theory into my piano lessons. If you primarily play another instrument, we can still work ...

Josh has been teaching our son (14 years old) piano and voice for over a year. He is an exceptional teacher and musician. Our son is really into musical theater and pop music. Josh has done an amazing job getting him playing and singing the music he loves quickly and successfully. He incorporates vocal and piano technique, music theory, and style into the context of pieces of music our son is motivated to learn, practice, and perform. Josh is incredibly smart and personable. He relates well to our son and has built a strong, trusting teacher-student relationship with him. We have also hired Josh to perform at family events for us. He was incredibly talented and professional. We cannot recommend Josh highly enough. He is fantastic!
Jonathan
Josh has been teaching our two kids piano, mixture of classical and popular, for about four years now. At this point one of our kids is 13 and the other 11. He's a wonderful, inspiring, enthusiastic and all round excellent piano teacher. Our kids are very different, and the younger one, our daughter, is slower to catch on. Josh is incredibly patient, and keeps her engaged. In the case of our son, he mixes classical with popular, and picks up on songs my son enjoys, to keep the lessons interesting. Josh typically would come to our home to teach two back-to-back lessons. More recently he has gone remote/online. In either setting he's just spectacular. We recommend him highly . . . and have recommended him to friends all of whom feel similarly about him as we do. He's also a really nice guy, and a pleasure to have in the house. He's also helped us with entertainment at a family function. Get in touch with Josh, you won't be sorry.

I started taking composition/theory lessons with Ryne as a 3rd year undergraduate composition student. While I was already taking private lessons at my university, there were some things that these lessons couldn't do for me due to my teacher's distance from me in both age and compositional style.

Ryne is extremely knowledgable and highly qualified, and he brought issues about my music to my attention that had never once come up in any prior lesson of mine. Most importantly, he is a great listener and advisor, capable of providing feedback on everything from CV building to public image management. I couldn't recommend him more highly!

"Kelly really knows her theory, inside and out. And she can explain how it all works. It's much easier to memorize a piece once you understand the theory behind it: the progression of the chords, and their functions. I wish my former teachers had known theory instead of making me memorize all those notes with no explanation."

"Billy is the absolute best! Transcribing rhythms and ear training analysis have always been my weaknesses when it comes to music theory knowledge and finding the right exercises and techniques to improve has always been quite a difficult process to achieve. However, within just a few tutoring lessons from Billy, I started to build a better understanding of music theory as a whole. In every tutoring lesson, Billy was patient, knowledgeable and friendly which quickly benefited my musicality and strengthened my overall friendship and love with music. Thank you Billy!"

"Jon is a superb music teacher for adult beginners. He's very encouraging, patient, and knowledgeable. His big smile paired with his easy going personality is very inviting, and his ability to meet his student where they are and keep the lesson on track is where he shined in our session(s). By the end of our first session I had specific goals and recommendations on how to make progress for where I'm at it my practice. I'd highly recommend John to anyone looking to pick up music."
