Voice Lessons: We'll hone your technique and have you singing your best in any style in which you focus - musical theatre, pop, jazz, r&b, rock, folk, or your own original music!

About Liza
I have been professionally singing and taking voice lessons since the age of 9! I went through various styles in my love and performance of music, starting with the Beatles, Aretha Franklin and all of Motown, Jazz (Ella Fitzgerald), R&B, and Classical/Opera (starting when I was in high school and attending Interlochen Arts Camp)...

Having received a Bachelor's of Music in Voice (Music Theatre Performance) from NYU, I stayed in NYC after graduation performing in musical theatre and theatre.

In 2009, I decided to apply to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, with the intent to broaden my range of skill and opportunity as a performer, but also with the intention to teach, with the higher degree strengthening this possibility. I began to teach voice lessons to fellow students while at LAMDA. When I returned to NYC, I began to
build my own voice studio in of post-graduate students and adults looking to further develop their vocal practice or begin a vocal practice. I found that in my vocal lessons, I was using physical exercises as for the actor, to incorporate in my private teaching method. I believe in doing, not only watching and observing. This, in conjunction with movement and full-body execution, opens the student vocally and emotionally. I chose to go to LAMDA because the classical training and approach to theatre training in England is extremely physical. They work from the outside in, and I find that the language of the body is universal to students of any intellectual capacity, and I strive to bring this into my approach in any type of teaching format!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach voice lessons to adults and young students who are beginning their vocal training practice, as well as those who are accomplished singers and performers and want to take their singing and performance to the next level! I use my skills as an accomplished vocalist and teacher to empower my students to find their own voice and learn to express a story through song. I enable my students to hone their craft and find their own style of expression through the exploration of music in a multitude of genres and cultures.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Stuyvesant style piano in my home studio. I also have a vast collection of repertoire.

*** Specialties ***

Lizzie loves taking lessons with Liza. Nancy (me, grandma) is the name connected with the account, but Lizzie is the gal taking the lessons. We- Liz, her mom and I are thrilled to have found Liza since this is the perfect match. Not only that, Liza is so much in touch with her student that she teaches her exactly what she needs to learn. We couldn't have found a more perfect teacher for Lizzie! We all hope that Liza will be Lizzie's vocal teacher for many more years.

My approach is best defined with one word: natural. Everything about you is unique, including your voice. Imitating denies this simple fact. So I'm all about stripping away all imitation, getting you in touch with your voice and then making that signature voice of yours strong and flexible. Your voice should be as unique as you are. I work with all levels and if you don't like my lessons - I will give you your money back.

About Gabriel
Gabriel W. ("Musiciano") is a fiery and passionate vocal instructor proficient in the fields of acting, singing and vocal development. A professional singer, actor and teacher with a BFA in Theater Arts.

Gabriel doesn't just possess a formal college education, but more importantly an "informal" education based on his experiences on the stage and in the studio in the real world. Gabriel's approach is direct, simple and to the core, getting straight to the heart of the matter: developing the voice from the inside out by breaking things down to the essentials.

An expert at creating vocal warm-ups, vocal exercises, and vocal cool-downs and deeply passionate about psychology, this is your guy for learning to keep your voice in shape and having access to helpful insights and advice. Learn to cultivate a healthy attitude and how to create
and survive a career in the world of performing arts.

With a kind and compassionate, yet stern and strong tone, Gabriel will work with you to develop the focus and dedication necessary to get your voice beyond what you even knew was possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
Regardless of the genre you sing, developing your voice with Gabriel's help will improve your tone, range, power and overall ability. You can expect to become a much better singer without losing any of your personal and unique traits.

His approach isn't a technical or mysterious one. It's all about re-learning the facts about how the voice functions best.

You can expect to clear away a lot of confusions regarding how the voice works and to take away the guesswork from the vocal development process.

If you want to improve your voice quickly, being guided by someone who understands how it all works and by someone who was where you are today and is now closer to where you want to be in the future is the best way to go. And Gabriel is that guy!

Gabriel's approach is quite simple, yet very effective at developing the entire voice.

"There are two basic levels that every singer must address. The first one is addressing the condition of the body and voice and the second one is addressing the functioning of the voice and body."

I - Silent Foundation

The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.

II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors

This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you'™re incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.

All levels of voice are taught, geared to whatever is your musical specialty but using a technique stemming from classical voice.

About Kathryn
Kathy believes that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. Raised singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies), she learned guitar and piano at an early age, but began singing even earlier.

Her quest to give the world the best her vocal cords could offer led her to obtain an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska (where she graduated honorable mention, named with the vocal department's Outstanding Senior in Music award, and also obtained a minor in theatre) and a master's degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Both of these degrees emphasized classical singing technique, and through this study Kathy gained a solid foundation for her musical craft.

Once out of school, Kathy then sought to begin creating HER music
and HER sound, a challenge which continues to manifest itself even today in a variety of ways. Kathy is now a singer/songwriter and performs often with her own band in which she sings, plays guitar, writes her own songs and arranges them for intricate backup harmonies and multiple instrumentation. A variety of influences are apparent in her music, including the musical genres of folk, pop, jazz, and yes, even hip hop. She has recorded three albums of her music and all have been received to critical acclaim.

She sings as a professional cantor at St. John the Baptist Church in Manhattan, and teaches private voice, guitar and piano lessons throughout the city of New York. She served for a time as the general music teacher for St. Dominic's School in the Bronx, where she was responsible for Pre-K through 8th grade music classes, and, true to form, she is often called upon in a multitude of situations to perform in a variety of musical genres. She is always pleased with the ever-changing musical scenery around her.

*** Lesson Details ***
A lesson with Kathy equals half of the allotted time being used to learn good technique (i.e., learning healthy vocal habits, singing vocalizes, learning to read music, playing scales, etc.) and the other half of the time singing and playing repertoire. The repertoire includes both pieces chosen by Kathy (always approved by the student) which excite and inspire the student's particular musical tastes while providing a new challenge in technique to be conquered, and also pieces brought in by the student; for example, if a student is working on music for a specific performance, etc., or if they just really like a piece and want to learn how to play or sing it, Kathy is always ready and willing to lend a hand and an ear!

Vocally, Kathy believes good basic technique is the same for every genre of music. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on learning to breathe and support your sound correctly as well as maintain good posture, rid your body of unwanted tensions, etc.; musical styles beyond that basic technique change only in small stylistic ways, and Kathy is knowledgeable in quiet a variety of most musical styles.

With guitar, Kathy focuses on learning to read and play musical notation and chords without using guitar tablature. Again, a variety of musical styles are used for instruction, including everything from classical to punk!

And with piano, Kathy focuses on learning to read and play musical notation as well as mastering scales and chord progressions, inversions, etc. She loves opportunities to combine voice lessons with guitar lessons, or voice lessons with piano lessons, as one instrument feeds into the other in interesting and helpful ways.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my travel guitar and music for lessons. I expect guitar students to have their own guitar, and piano or voice students to have some sort of keyboard, even a small one.

*** Specialties ***
all-levels voice, beginning guitar, beginning piano
I specialize in a classical voice method, which I believe is a good foundation for all styles of singing. I have experience with classical singing, music theatre (I have a minor from my undergraduate education in Theatre) and folk. I'm an experienced songwriter and am able to guide students in that area.

I teach notes and chords for my guitar students. I don't teach guitar tablature; instead, I teach basic guitar music on the staff.

Also, I teach beginning piano, including basic music theory, note spelling, etc.

Having sung leads on Broadway in shows including "1776" and "Annie" and studied with two very prominent voice teachers, I place a lot of emphasis on support and placement and being each lesson with a series of exercises designed to teach vocal technique. When coaching a song , as I am an acting as well as voice teacher, I work on dramatic interpretation as well. The song is not just the music, but the words and the emotions as well. I want my students to leave their lessons feeling they have accomplished something and loving singing as much as I do.

About Mary
Mary is a Tony nominated writer, actress, and teacher whose Broadway credits include Martha Jefferson in "1776" and Grace Farrell in "Annie". She was a starring soloist In Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" at the Kennedy Center and the Metropolitan Opera and toured as featured vocal with Michel LeGand in concerts including Carnegie Hall. Off Broadway credits include her own musical, "Cradle Song". She studied voice with the great Sue Seton and later with opera star and tenor coach at the Metropolitan Opera, Felix Knight. She teaches a combination of both their legendary techniques. As an actor, she studied acting with Sanford Meisner in NYC, the Rheinhardt Seminar in Vienna, Austria and has been teaching and directing beginning, intermediate and professionsl singers and actors for over fifteen years. Former students have appeared on "Thirt
y Rock", Gilmore Girls", "Law and Order" and others. Her goal in working with her students is not only to teach healthy vocal technique, but in keeping with her theatre background, her strong belief that "Every song is a scene or monoglogue" leads her to make sure the student know what they are singing or speaking about, and can do so with a clarity of emotion and dramatic intent.
She has a BA in theatre/voice from the University of Kansas where she serves on the Advisory Board For the Department of Theatre and Film and has an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she is a guest lecturer. She is a member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, AGMA and The Dramatists Guild.
"Mary is able to reach not only those students who are already excited about theater but inspire those who have no previous knowledge of it. To watch these young men and women become more and more accomplished is a marvelous thing. She inspired them all."...Mark St. Germain, Obie winning playwright.

*** Lesson Details ***
In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.

*** Studio Equipment ***
casio keyboard, speakers, desk, extensive library of scripts and sheet music, internet

*** Specialties ***

Whether you want to prepare for a college/university or professional audition, or learn the joy of singing as your hobby, I provide voice lessons to meet the individual goals of any student. Learn the foundations of singing - develop your craft - work hard - have fun!

My students have gone on to perform with major professional theater and opera companies, and have been accepted to top music conservatories in the world.

About Rebecca
I am a versatile singer and voice teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience. My professional performing background is in classical and opera, and I teach classical, opera, musical theater, pop and other styles to students at any age or level of study.

I also teach beginning piano and music theory/ear training.

I am fluent in German. I studied abroad extensively in Germany and Austria, and have several years of tutoring experience.

Testimonial from a student: "I worked with Rebecca for three years throughout high school, and during those years I grew more as a singer and musician than I ever could have imagined. Becky focused my training on getting a free, clear and natural sound through relaxation. This focus allowed me to find my own, unique voice, which gave me the confidence to conquer any piece I wanted to.
In addition, I was very impressed with Becky's dedication to language. She worked to make sure I pronounced every word and vowel of Spanish, Italian, French or German perfectly, so that I sounded fluent. Through our work together I was accepted to one of the best music conservatories in the country: The Cleveland Institute of Music. Becky was a great teacher and mentor for me throughout high school, and although I am in college now, I still look up to her as a singer."

I have compiled a technique for breathe support, pitch control, muscle strengthening and relaxation over the last 20 years that shows dynamic improvements in just 5 days! I have had the amazing opportunity to work with world renown vocal coaches in both classical music and pop music and I bring this knowledge to my students.

During a session, we work on techniques of singing in addition to musicality and performance. The level you are at and what your goals are will dictate how we proceed.

About Amanda
I am a professionally trained opera/classical singer, and I LOVE to teach. I have more than 5 years of teaching experience working with students of all ages and levels in both New York and Los Angeles. I love bringing the gift of music to everyone, and truly believe that music heals and brings happiness to all who partake in their own musical journey. I also bring with me 5 years of experience working for an opera company in Los Angeles where I managed the education and community engagement department. Through this opportunity I was able to work with diverse groups of students to teach them about music.

My teaching technique focuses on giving my students the proper tools and techniques that they need in order to build their instrument and preserve their voice for longevity. I have a Bachelors degree in Music: Voice Performance and a Ma
sters degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy. I have also taken several seminars on vocal health and development.

In addition to singing I also teach beginning to intermediate piano lessons. I have been playing the piano for many years. In fact it was my first instrument! I find that the piano is a wonderful way for students of all ages to really understand music as a language while learning an instrument simultaneously. I have a wonderful method and book that I use which I have found to be incredibly effective. I also teach and work with my students on their aural skills, pitch development and recall, music theory, and diction.

I am excited to meet you future student! Please don't hesitate to drop me a line. I look forward to having you in my studio!
Best on your musical journey -Amanda

My son Alexander was in 6th grade when he began to receive lessons from Amanda. She was able to get my son ready within 3 months for his audition to the Orange County School of the Arts. Thanks to her dedication and professionalism and my son's perseverance, he was accepted to the Classical Voice conservatory. She continued visiting our home on a weekly basis for four years. Amanda was always prepared with lessons which she pulled from music books that were appropriate for his age. She tailored his singing lessons in conjunction with his conservatory expectations. When Alexander was in 9th grade, she provided piano lessons as well. With piano lessons, he was able to practice his songs with more feasibility. It is with great admiration and respect that I highly recommend Amanda as a classical voice and piano teacher for she is an example of great talent and inspiration for the youth.

Amanda is not just an outstandingly talented singer (seriously) but also a gifted and inspiring teacher. As a beginner, I had no idea what to expect from my lessons, but she blew me away with her warm, fun, professional approach to singing. Her magic is that she is equally a scientist and an artist. She is a singing expert at the highest level, and she knows how to guide your technique with laser-focused, detailed feedback. When she is explaining abstract concepts, she does a marvelous job of breaking them down into understandable and concrete tasks for practice. Most importantly, she prioritizes healthy technique and you can trust her to protect the longevity of your voice. After singing with her for a little over a year, for the first time I have discovered my voice's natural, free vibrato, and I truly enjoy hearing what my own recorded voice sounds like. Amanda is the best. She will point you to the stars and help you reach for them. Call her!
