My background is as a classically trained singer and voice teacher. I have studied with numerous leading voice teachers and singers in the United States. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Florida State University in Voice Performance and I studied for my Doctorate in Musical Arts in Vocal Pedagogy from The University of Miami. My education has provided me a great understanding of how the voice functions correctly and how to relate this to any level of student, from completely inexperienced singers to advanced singers. My teaching style focuses on making sure that the different parts of the voice are working correctly then focusing on the coordination of the entire system working together. Whether you are preparing for an important singing engagement or just trying to improve your skills, I would love to help you achieve y
our goals.

I will give the student all the tools to achieve their goals, including weekly skill and muscle training exercises tailored to the student's needs.

He is so great! He is wonderful at going over what needs to be done to reach what I want to do with my vocals. He does step by step and is great at working with me.
I look forward to continuing my lessons with him. He's the only one that was willing to work with me on what I want for my vocals. So definitely highly recommend

Broadway music is a great way to improve those vocal chords and there is so much material to work with. Most students choose two favorite musicals to start. Or I can definitely help you with that.! Basic concepts are learned or reviewed such as breathing, vowel modification, range extension. I will also incorporate a couple perhaps lesser known musical pieces you may not know and choose ones that will expand your vocal talent.

About Mary
Music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano, and vocal pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Also certified in Kindermusik for ages newborn to 7.

My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.

As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....

Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.

The grea
test virtues of a music teacher are passion, patience, understanding, and communicating. You will experience this in the studio. Give yourself a treat of two months of lessons and I promise you will be playing and/or singing better than you expected.

Member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs),
NJFMC (NJ Fed. of Music Clubs). MENC (Music Ed National Conference),

*** Lesson Details ***
I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.

*** Specialties ***
Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. If you also wish to combine singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar lessons can be tailored.

This was my first lesson. But Mary help me practice certain selections I needed for this coming week. While doing those, she gave me extra good pointers on how to reach certain notes and breathe more correctly. I believe we really accomplished a lot for one lesson. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

Extensive experience starring in touring theater productions since age 12.

About Detrece
DeTrece "Dee" Lavender is a native of Miami, Florida. When her family moved to Sarasota, she was afforded the opportunity to study music and the performing arts as a student of the Westcoast School/Henry L. Porter School of Music. It was then that Dee began to understand the power of the creative arts as an effective form of emotional expression and release. By middle school, DeTrece began fine tuning her natural talents by studying classical voice which earned her several starring roles in the Sarasota Youth Opera, The Aslo Theater and the Players Theater. She is also a proud former member of the Westcoast Black Theater Troop in Sarasota, FL. Under the caring leadership of these opportunities, she was able to combine musical and life experiences in order to offer a more well rounded educational and musical experience for her students.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (Class of 2003). It was through her service as a music therapist, Millieu (residential) counselor and music teacher in the Boston City Public Schools/Greater Boston Metropolitan Area, that she began to feel the call toward a greater understanding of the gravity and role of the socio-emotional needs of students (and their families/villages) in urban settings. This call brought her to Baltimore, MD where she enrolled in the Pastoral Counseling Masters of Science program at Loyola University. In addition to her studies, she currently teaches Elementary and Middle School choir/ Musicianship teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids Program. She also serves as Minister Of Music and Arts at two local churches.

Rachel is professional, approachable, and extremely talented teacher! I definitely recommend her teaching an recording services. I received voice lessons to record for my husband's wedding present. I sang a song called "Still" by Hillsong and accompanied it with my own piano playing. My husband enjoyed the recording very much. Without Reed Vocal Studio, I would not have been able to give the gift of music to my husband. I do not regret having Rachel as my teacher and as my recording engineer. I added my recording on Sound Cloud if anyone is interested in taking a peak at what it is like to record music with Rachel. Let me tell you, she is amazing! Five stars all the way!!

Enjoy :)

I have been teaching voice and musical theater for several years and I truly love this art form! If a student would like to get into the meaning of the music and would like to learn the performance skills to really become a great Broadway singing actor, my studio is a great fit! A singer must communicate the message first. Monologue training is also available. My singers begin working on new songs immediately!

About Katie
I am a professional singer with a Bachelors of Music in Voice from New England Conservatory and a Masters of Music in Voice from Westminster Choir College. I enjoy teaching all levels of voice students in a variety of styles. I have training in the physiology of the voice, as well as in many methods of acting and performance and can help students reach their best potential as performers! The most important thing is to appreciate your unique vocal gifts and to enjoy them and learn to use them well.

Based on correct vocal technique, I teach a healthy belt and mix for the appropriate sound for contemporary commercial music desired on Broadway today. I also teach how to switch to a more "classical" approach for the more "legit" music in traditional shows. We work on acting and staging as well as part of the lessons. We want to be singers who act rather than actors who sing.

About Roberta
I am classically trained with over 25 years professional singing/acting experience at venues across the country/around the world, including off Broadway, Carnegie Hall and the Sydney, Australia Opera House. I work full time as a musician performing, directing, and giving private voice/acting and piano lessons. My education includes Drew University, the Academia Real in Spain, Hart School of Music and private study.

My teaching for voice & piano focuses on a foundation of correct technique. Roberta is amazing! I went to her for a little more than 3 years for voice (and piano for a little bit) and she is very helpful, skilled, friendly, knowledgable, and fun. She helped me get into my top choice college as a choral music major with a full tuition scholarship and supported me the entire way. Roberta knows how to work with any voice with any level of experience of any age. Not only is Robera a fantastic teacher; she is also very understanding and a great person to talk to. I would highly recommend her to any student in the area.

Now is the time! I have a varied background: I started out in musical theatre and choirs and now sing with orchestras, opera companies, and churches. I began teaching privately in college, then taught private lessons, before proceeding to the Westminster Choir College, where I just received a Master of Music in Voice and Voice Teaching (formally Vocal Performance and Pedagogy.) I teach all levels of singing and am familiar with different styles, like contemporary musical theatre, legit, belting, and pop/ rock. As an actor who sings I think it's important to connect with the text and let the vocal technique support those choices for the most compelling performance. My passion is creating audition cuts and crafting them into bite-sized yet complete scenes. Audition technique is key if you want to be in shows because someone has to cast you first.
