Gary has taught my son for about 7 years. He is a wonderful teacher, as skilled with small children as he is with more advanced musicians. Professionally trained and credentialed, there are few aspects of music he is not ready to teach. Piano, saxophone, production, theory--he can do it all.
He taught my son piano when he was small and then when the kid switched to upright bass, he comped him for years and taught him the tricks of the jazz trade (the kid is ready for an arts high school because of Gary's teaching)
Gary is incredibly punctual and responsible about times and dates. In person, he is warm and supportive but very focussed on the student's development. Gary loves what he does and loves watching his students develop. i would recommend him for all levels, and as an added bonus he is a very cerebral and thoughtful individual. *** Lesson Details *** Voice I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises. Acting As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on. Creative and Lyric Writing I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

A very good first lesson. We went over breathing exercises and scales. Also had time for Amy to critique my speaking style through a portion of a speech I will be giving in a month. Time well-spent.
She briefly went over the next lesson plan and gave me a little homework to do as well.
I got a lot out of this lesson and I can see how this will help me accomplish my goal of being a better public speaker and having a more controlled and stronger voice.

Since 2005 I have been composing music for a wide variety of ensembles and artistic platforms. As a leader, I've been performing original music all over NYC at known creative and jazz venues like Seeds, Cornelia St. Café, The Bar Next Door, Jazz at the Kitano, Shapeshifter Lab and Smalls Jazz Club, which Down Beat magazine considers to be two of the best jazz clubs in the world.
Besides professing a passion and skill-set for music within the ‘jazz’ idiom, my interest in and usage of sound draws from and many other forms of art. I've composed and arranged music for lyricists, improvised music for poetry readings at the Firehouse Space, and have provided musical accompaniment for dance classes, workshops, and performances presented by the Martha Graham Dance Academy and the Jeoffrey Ballet School. I've even co-choreographed short plays and have played for Marc Jacobs fashion runway shows.
My music also extends into the health and wellness community. Concetta is a NYC based violinist, strings specialist and composer. She writes original art songs inspired by natural science, folk tales, poetry and everyday objects and sounds. She released her first solo album entitled Falling in Time in February 2015 on Waterbug Records. She was a visiting composer in residence at TAKT gallery in Berlin both in 2014 and 2016. In 2018 she co-composed a dance composition for the Wendy Osserman Dance Company. Concetta is most known for her collaborative work with poet Cornelius Eady (Kattywompus Press), musical instrument builder Skip La Plante, photographer Vera Comploj and Latin music band Inti and the Moon (Intiluna Records).
Concetta is the musical director of a music education non-profit called "Teacup Music". She holds a masters degree in Music and Music Education at Columbia University and has
received grants from the Rauschenberg Foundation, Department of Cultural Affairs, Brooklyn Arts Council, the Charles Mayer Foundation as well as The Roothbert Fund.
She loves dogs, hiking, cooking and gardening! She tailors her private lessons to individual students goals and needs.

I found Keith to be very reliable, patient, knowledge in several subjects, flexible with problem solving and understanding of children's moods and personalities. He comes with a wide array of talent and is willing to meet your child at his/her interest level and learning style. He even switched from tutoring reading to art because my child totally refused to be tutored in reading.
He came prepared and on time every time, ready to tutor in either subject because my child was difficult, uncooperative and would not stick to her scheduled sessions. Through all this Keith remained dedicated, supportive and patient. He worked with us even to the premature ending of our sessions, and even then he remained understanding and supportive of our decision to end.

1. Play chords or a riff.
2. Sing or hum over the harmony.
