Allendale, NJ Viola Lessons

Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.

In class, you will learn new techniques, receive guidance on how to achieve the best sound possible and learn songs that you like and that interest you. You are expected to take this guidance and practice it thoroughly at home until you feel comfortable with it, so that when you are in class next, the teacher can move on to a new concept or skill which builds upon the skill practiced at home. They will only move you forward once you can do the more basic technique.

Hi, I'm Benjamin! Thank you for viewing my profile page. I am a professional violinist and violist with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in performance from the Manhattan School of Music. I am Suzuki Registered and State Certified in both New Jersey and New York to teach in public schools grades K- 12. I have over 20 years of experience in the music industry. Whether you're a beginner looking to explore something new or an advanced player looking to prepare for an audition, I am happy to help!

I teach beginner and intermediate viola students helping them develop their bow technique and intonation.

I've been teaching viola for 7 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to get familiar with the viola and learn basic skills on the instrument and as time goes on you'll be able to play songs and read music. I specialize in classical and modern pop, typically use Hal Leonard and Suzuki books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: piano for accompaniment, music stand. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

I specialize with beginner, intermediate and adult learners. I currently hold a degree in music education from LaGuardia Community College, pursuing my master's and bachelor's at Montclair State University this fall for music education and performance for the viola. I'm not afraid of travelling (in fact, I enjoy it!) and am easily reachable and approachable. I understand the world of music, let alone classical music, can be intimidating and challenging; in response to this, I develop an individual basis teaching method as everyone's needs are different and make the experience as fun and engaging as possible.

A bit of everything! During a lesson with me, students and I will work on classical pieces as well as music choices the student is interested in learning. Students of all ages are welcome to learn!
