I have over 20 years’ experience. I have been working for major fashion brands companies in NYC. I am experienced with working with beginners, intermediate and all levels. I am offering industry level sewing classes and pattern correcting and altering techniques that will cater to your needs. I will be able to teach foundation skills of how to operate a sewing machine, how to use a serger or how to use an industrial sewing machine. I will also teach how to hand sew, follow and understand a pattern and how to finish your work beautifully. I am also going to work with you on your own personal projects.
I teach hands on beginner’s patternmaking and sewing skills that you will need for garment production, arts and crafts and any project that involves sewing. For instance: I can help you make pillows, bags, aprons, stuffed toys and other hou
sehold items. If you want to make clothing, I will guide you through using a published pattern.
I will work closely with you to make sure you understand the project and to make sure you properly construct a quality finished project.
I have been sewing since I was in 3rd grade and was making doll clothes for my Barbie dolls and clothes for myself by the time I was in 9th grade. I also used to work closely with a Tailor/dressmaker as an apprentice during my summer holidays in 10th grade.

Students are expected to provide all tools and materials.

Recommended duration is 2 hours.

Vena is a consummate professional. My son wanted to learn some basic sewing skills, as well as learn how to make clothes and accessories. In the first 1.5 hour lesson at our home, he completed a simple zipper bag. Over the course of six lessons he made a messenger bag, dress shirt and started on pants - which he finished while we were on vacation. Vena is an expert and also knows how to tailor her lessons to her individual students work style, needs and goals. I give her my highest recommendation. My son will be working with her again to learn how to design his own creations. Five stars all the way.

I think Vena is wonderful. She is patient, warm, supportive and knowledgeable. She can help you complete specific projects (make a dress or a stuffed animal), help you become a better sewer or teach you the art of pattern making. Also, I should mention, she work professionally in the fashion industry and give lots of great insight into how garments are designed. Love Her!

About Sabrina Jacqui
I first learned how to sew from a wonderful woman teaching in-home sewing lessons. Her one on one lessons helped catapult me into the skilled sewer I am today!

I have been sewing since then for about 16 years now. I started my own brand in 2009 where I designed and created every item by hand (pattern-drafting to sewing). I continued my brand throughout the years. I went on to receive my BFA in Fashion Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design where my construction skills advanced. I'm currently working as a sewing instructor and costume designer. Along with working on my brand re-launch.

My sewing teaching methods are unique in that I have both sides of the equation to offer--structural/basics and creative/fashion. I am happy to work with any student on what they choose to focus on and what they are excited about gaining f
rom the lessons. If you're unsure what you want to learn, we can work together on a small project to get you going!

Sabrina taught my daughter in-home, she was always on time despite the distance and was very patient and respectful. We have a few other children and she was extremely welcoming to the little ones looking in on the lesson. She taught my daughter how to use a store-bought pattern and some sewing basics.

About Adenike
Hello,

My name is Adenike, you can call me Adé. I'm a trained fashion stylist and designer with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design from the University of Rhode Island.

I have taught sewing and design, to people of all
ages, genders, and abilities throughout my professional career. It began in 2002 when I decided to work with the Americorps, Teach America program. There I created and executed a lesson plan that taught students how to sketch, render, sew, read patterns and adjusts garments for personal to suit their personal needs. The program incorporated science, math, and history so that they had a practical and anthropological approach to fashion design. It was great, and I discovered that one of my other joys in life is teaching.

Most recently, I've worked with Hobby Quest, where I teach children in an after
-school setting. Hobby Quest requires an extensive background check because of that fact that work is done with students on school grounds. I can supply references that will attest to my professionalism and easy going nature.

***For both sewing and styling lessons, it's required that you schedule for a 60 minutes introductory session.
*** If interested in group sewing lessons:
- There is a min 5 students/ max 12 students
- Packages must be purchased in groups of 5:
Level A then Level B ( optional)

About Ariann
Hello! My name is Ariann and I have 14 years of sewing experience. I began taking sewing lessons at 10 years old, which is what inspired me to teach others. I've made almost every type of garment you can imagine over the years and I went on to receive a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. During my time in the program, I learned how to sketch, flat pattern and drape, and sew many different types of garment.

I really enjoy constructing a garment from start to finish and like to make my own patterns or customize store bought patterns. I would like to be able to teach this to my students and help them express their own style in clothes that they can wear proudly.

I am comfortable teaching all levels, so even if you've never touched a sewing machine before, please feel free to reach out!

I am a hoarder - most notably of yarn and can be seen knitting or crocheting in 90 degree weather. I began my craft journey as a child when i was taught Crochet by the other woman in my fathers life. I learned to knit later - but I would hone both these skills well into adulthood looking for a way to channel my OCD. I taught at a local knitting shop in Brooklyn for a number - where I taught beginners and advanced students looking to learn a new skill. I enjoy teaching and enjoy watching my students grown and cultivate their craft journey !
