I am happy to support your learning ASL with personal instructions, as well as assignments. We can take it super slow, or we can take it with speed. Regardless of which speed we move, you will definitely learn ASL with me.

I have over 5 years experience with American Sign Language. I start simple with some voice, but as lessons progress, less voice with be present and more signing will be seen.

I am currently in an interpreting program, and have experience teaching friends and family in an unofficial setting.
I love to work with children or adult beginners!
I encourage constant practice, even if it's just in the mirror. I believe learning should be fun! I will include homework, but in a way that makes it interesting and fun for you! I love ASL and can't wait to help you learn to love it too!

This class can be done various ways.
1) I can tutor you for a ASL class you are currently taking.
2) I can help you keep fresh on ASL you already know (we can spend class practicing communication skills.
3) We can learn the basics (ABCs, Counting, Colors, and so on) Basically start from the beginning as an ASL 1 class and we can work our way toward understanding and communicating.

I have students who are doing this for their career in order to communicate to deaf people they come to contact with in their professional life. For those students I base our classes around signs they would use in there place of work. Some occupations of my current students include: Nurse, Social Worker, Santa, US Military, Flight Attendant, and more.
I also teach students who have zero ASL background and we start with the very basic signs and work our way to forming sentences and battling the ASL grammar.

Taught American Sign Language (ASL) full-time and part-time (nights) for 39 years, just recently retired from full-time teaching. I have primarily used Signing Naturally (SN) workbooks, all levels. I have also used Learning American Sign Language (LASL).
Currently, I am teaching Deaf Culture as an online course at San Diego Mesa College.
I have been using ASL since I was 4 years old and I have attended California School for the Deaf, Berkeley (Fremont) and Riverside. I have received valuable experience from Deaf peers of Deaf parents, Deaf adults and Deaf leaders. In this sense, I am a native user of ASL and ASL Fingerspelled Signs.
Graduated from Gallaudet College (University) in Washington, D.C. with a B.S. in Business Administration. I received two Masters degrees from California State University, Northridge, one in Deaf Education and the other in Educational Administration. I received my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from University of Southern California ...

I learned ASL from the Deaf Community over 35 years ago so, I understand the cultural aspects of the language in addition to its linguistics. I received my AAS through an interpreter training program in 2010. Since 1998, I have been both an Educational and a Medical Interpreter through various agencies in my area. I am state certified and hold EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) credentials as well.
