I'm a music-loving stay-at-home dad who enjoys sharing his hobbies of guitar and trumpet with the world! I have been teaching students of all ages, from elementary-age to older adults, for over 4 years now and I particularly enjoy introducing beginners to the joys of a new instrument. Whether you are just picking up your instrument for the first time, or dusting it off after years of sitting in the closet, I'm honored you would consider me to help you along your journey.
While I have studied music and music education at the university level, I have also learned a great deal through real-world experience and playing alongside other musicians and gleaning whatever I can from them. I have played both trumpet and guitar my whole life and consider myself to be a life-long learner of both instruments. Since becoming a father, I've enjoyed the experience of taking everything I've learned and sharing it with those around me, especially with those who are new to music or have always wanted to

For the beginner we start learning immediately, by choosing what guitar and why. The different methods of sitting with the guitar, as well as standing. We then go over tuning your instrument, these things make us more familiar with the instrument. We then learn new songs by playing either chords (harmony) or melodic lines, (melodies or scales). The beginner will also learn to use "proper technique" which includes playing on fingertips, thumb placement for the fretting hand and other approaches. The picking hand techniques include and are not limited to finger picking, or the use of the plectrum.
For intermediate player it's all about theory and practice. This level of student will learn scale and chordal theory, and apply them to existing songs as well as learning the new songs with the theory in mind. More advanced picking techniques and the ability to know when to use what picking approach when reading the the rhythm figures on the staff. Knowledge of song composition is ...

- I also take lessons from him- I've got a music background but had no previous experience with the guitar before and Mr Mandel was able to adapt his teaching style to accommodate that nicely.
-I highly recommend him!

First off I'm an intermediate player, who has successfully avoided theory since I started playing. Coming to Ahmad for some help to hit the next level, he's cunningly introduced theory into the curriculum, but made it fun to do so with creative exercises I can take home and work on. For the last month I've seen my understanding of playing the guitar improve, and he's also helped with the creative side using the tools I have at my disposal.
I've been through a few teachers in my time, and Ahmad's understanding, patience and vim for guitar really shine through. Would definitely recommend for whatever stage you're at."

My 9yo son has been taking lessons from Judy since he was a young 6. Judy is patient and keeps the lessons fun and will adjust music to the child's interests. He knows the ins & outs of a guitar, can read sheet music, pick or strum a song, has great rhythm & loves guitar all thanks to Judy!!!!!"

My son started learning the guitar with NO experience at the age of 9. He is now playing the songs he always wanted to learn, is always excited to go to his weekly lesson, and above all has the upmost respect for AL as do I as Anthony's mom. I couldn't think of anyone I would rather my son learn from. Al's extensive knowledge of musical instruments is nothing short of remarkable! I would recommend AL to anyone looking for a teacher in the musical arts."

They have to understand that each note has a letter, …
