Valerie B. Wilmington, DE

About Valerie

Hi there! My name is Valerie. I'm a certified music teacher that loves to see a person grow in their love and ability for music. With 17 years of teaching privately, experience teaching publicly in elementary school music classrooms, enjoying several years as a Kindermusik (preschool music) teacher, and a school year teaching with VSA arts of Delaware (teaching music to those with disabilities), I find it thrilling to see a person of any age & background grow and blossom in their passion for music! Though I enjoy and have experience at teaching all ages from children to adults, I specialize in CHILDREN'S MUSIC EDUCATION (ages 5-12). I would describe myself as an elementary school music teacher that teaches privately. ;) My studio is filled with many smiles, stickers for every ...

We chose Valerie because of her experience with kids. She made my daughter feel at ease immediately, connecting with her through humor, easy-to-understand communication and praise. In just three lessons, I can already see the difference in my daughter's voice. We are happy to have found Valerie!

Sam's Dad

Valerie is excellent with Samantha. She tries to keep Sam on track during lessons and makes them fun for Sammy. Valerie did a spectacular job in a couple weeks prepairing Samantha for an audition to Cab Callaway. Samatha went into and performed very well at the audition, THANKS VALERIE!!! Valerie has been excellent with both her vocal and piano teachings and we would highly recommend Valerie.

Karen S. Wilmington, DE

About Karen

I hold a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Misericordia University in Dallas, PA. I have studied piano with Gisa Adler at New School of Music in Philadelphia, PA. I taught public school in the Conestoga Valley School District in Lancaster County, PA and I have taught private piano for over ten years. I love music and I love teaching - seeing my students progress and reach their goals. I believe music should be a pleasant experience and a demanding and ill - spirited teacher can ruin a student. I am NOT one of these. You will find me patient and supportive. *** Lesson Details *** To be an accomplished pianist you must learn all the basics well. These include music symbology which enables you to read music so you can translate it into the sound on the piano. In order to ...

Alexis explains technique in a way that is at once immediately understandable and easy to implement. I've only had a few lessons with her and I'm already noticing a huge improvement. I would highly recommend her as a voice teacher to anyone at any level.

Alexis has been a wonderful private vocal instructor for my son who is currently a middle school student. She is professional, versatile, helpful, flexible and extremely encouraging as a teacher and mentor. Alexis believes that her students need a solid musical foundation; she is willing to spend time teaching the basics in order to assure her students know how to read music. She has been able to help my son grasp and learn music theory concepts that were sometime challenging in his music theory class at school. Alexis has also worked diligently with my son on musical theatre audition preparation which prepared him and ultimately earned him lead roles in a few musical theatre productions. Alexis is very versatile and is able to teach many types of musical and vocal styles from classical, to Broadway – musical theatre and to popular music, etc. She worked with my son and helped him gain confidence to participate as a vocal soloist for his school’s talent show. I also love the fact that Alexis can see the growth in her student’s after they have worked hard in their private lessons; she offers them advice and encouragement and often recommends new opportunities for the student to try such as auditioning for All State Choirs. Alexis is also very flexible and will work with you in instances where you need to change, reschedule or cancel your vocal lessons. This flexibility is greatly needed and appreciated as a busy parent who may have to change the schedule due to personal conflicts or work commitment. But, the best endorsement that I can give for Alexis is that my son trust, believes in and likes Alexis as a teacher and as a person and as a parent, I don’t think you can ask for too much more!
