Linda C.

Campbell, CA

About Linda

I have been a public school music teacher for 30+ years. I am an optimistic, enthusiastic person, who will help you learn music reading in addition to music playing. I started on piano as a young child, and studied clarinet from elementary school through college, where I focused on french horn. I have a BA in Music Education from Humboldt State University, where I also earned my teaching credential. I have taught beginning, intermediate and advanced band and orchestra, in addition to choir and jazz band. I have been music director for over 10 middle school musicals. In my spare time I enjoy my
two dogs, going horseback riding, and reading.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very friendly, and encouraging to new students. I have a lot of patience for those who are new to the study of music. I can also be more demanding for those who have learned the basics and want to improve their playing. I am a proponent of teaching the basics of music reading and common musical terms. I can teach music through a variety of curricula, and will work with my students to choose a method that best suits their goals. I have a large music studio in my home that has a separate entrance, which is conducive to music making (with it's own bathroom). I accept students 8 years of age and older.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Has a keyboard, but no drum set

*** Travel Equipment ***
I prefer to teach in my home studio.

*** Specialties ***
I have been teaching band, orchestra & choir in public schools for 30+ years.

I didn't know what to expect. Linda was fantastic. I'm a beginner sax player and she worked with me to get my sounds correct. She has the right attitude for a teacher and I felt good after my lesson. I'm looking forward to my next lessons

I and my son come to the studio in the morning. It has lightened with ceiling skylight and the teacher already prepares for the lesson with music instrument and book stand, etc. Her personality is nice and joyful, and as she instructs my son first lesson for flute beginner fast but thoroughly, I found her the best teacher.

Amanda B.

Livermore, CA

Though violin was the first instrument I learned, the viola just might be my favorite to teach! Technique, confidence building and rhythm are my main focuses for viola students. In addition to performance skills, I aim to give all my students musical knowledge about theory, music history and musical terminology.

About Amanda

Hello, I'm new to California, but not new to teaching! In Pennsylvania, I sustained a studio of 10-20 driven students. I now want to start building up a group of great students in the Livermore area. I obtained my B.M. in Violin Performance from West Chester University. I have been furthering my teaching skills as an active American String Teachers Association member, through Suzuki training, and pedagogy study at The Juilliard School during the Starling-Delay Symposium on Violin Studies.

I work to help students create and achieve their musical goals. I pride myself on clearly communicating
lesson topics and assignments so every student knows exactly what must be practiced for the upcoming lessons. Teacher clarity helps students practice in a more focused fashion so they can improve as steadily and quickly as possible. I ensure my students get the most out of each lesson by using a variety of teaching styles and tools. Students with longer lessons (45 minutes or more) can benefit from music theory workbooks and games which I incorporate into the lessons. My goal is to make every lesson fun and challenging for my students!

I offer multiple performance opportunities each year. For the past three years I organized formal spring recitals where all my students gained the experience of playing with an accompanist in a recital hall. This past year I invited a few select students to perform in an honors recital. Another performance opportunity I offered a few years ago was a more casual Duet Day where my students and I performed duets for their family and the community in a park. Of course, these opportunities change from year to year, but the emphasis is always on giving a performance to be proud of!

Hilary L.

San Mateo, CA

Hilary's primary instrument is the Viola. She chose it for its beautiful mellow sound and has found it to be rewarding in chamber music, and orchestras. Viola students have to learn a different set of skills - different posture and bow use in particular.

About Hilary

My passion is teaching violin so that my students enjoy freedom while playing. I use the fun of games to teach fundamental musical concepts. We have a lot of great silly time in lessons, but students often realize later how many things they picked up through these well-structured lessons.

My studies have been in classical Violin and Viola, but we can incorporate jazz, pop and rock styles for those students who are interested.

I teach violin and viola lessons to students of all ages. Private lessons include personalized, comprehensive lesson material including Violin and Viola technique
, music reading and theory, improvisation, rhythm training, composition, history and aural skills. Include classical violin technique as well as jazz, blues, and popular music.
