I will provide lessons at my home, and am also willing to travel within 25 miles. Depending on the distance, fees will vary for traveling.

About Melissa

My name is Melissa L. and I am currently employed by the Cecil County Public Schools as a strings teacher. While traveling from Northeast High School, Cherry Hill Middle School, Gilpin Manor Elementary, Holly Hall Elementary, and Thomson Estate Elementary School, I am also offering private lessons for strings and piano. I have acquired a degree in Music Education with a concentration in violin from the University of Delaware. I have been playing the violin for 21 years and also have been giving private violin lessons for the last 10 years. Although my main concentration is focused on the violi
n, I also provide private lessons for viola, cello, string bass, and piano.

As an educator, I strive to provide students with the knowledge to become highly skilled and competent musicians. Whether music becomes a hobby or profession, I want my students to appreciate and engage in their learning as aspiring musicians. Music has made such a positive impact on my life, and I hope to inspire my students to love the music that they play. The many years that I have played the violin along with my 9 years of private teaching has given me knowledge of effective techniques to incorporate in my teaching. I hope to be a positive and encouraging role model while engaging my students to their fullest potential as musicians!

As a beginner in learning to play the cello and read music.I have learned a great deal through my weekly lessons with Melissa. Every lesson includes presentation of a new skill and a review of previously taught concepts. Melissa effectively provides me feedback about my performance and methods to correct errors. She maintains a high level of rigor and expectation to every lesson. Melissa presents as a very professional instructor with a strong work ethic and dedication to her field.

Thomas W.

Downingtown, PA

I can help beginning students on violln learn the basics.

About Thomas

Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a c
appella groups.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Specialties ***

Nicole F.

North East, MD

I use a variety of different teaching skills and books for students. I believe that every student has a different way of learning. For a basis I use-
Beginner- Sarah Pope's A new tune a day, with Suzuki pieces
Intermediate- I assign a scale book, an etude book, a positions book, and a solo piece related to techniques we are learning.

About Nicole

Hello!

I am currently a second year masters student at The University of Delaware in violin performance and am teaching between Newark Delaware, Bender music school in Elkton MD, and North East Maryland- where my studio is located. Currently I have availability on Wednesdays at Bender music store and have openings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in my North East location. Driving to your location is on a need by need basis depending on your location, if I have students in other locations, and if you are unable to come to one of my studios.

I received my bachelor degree from Colorado Stat
e University with a concentration in violin performance and violin/viola pedagogy (the art of private teaching). What is unique to my training is my pedagogy degree, where professors analyzed my teaching to help me perfect it.

I am accepting students who are looking for a permanent teacher OR who are looking to advance during the summer for the next school year. I teach from age 7 to adult. I mainly teach classical violin, but if you express an interest in fiddling music we can certainly look at fiddle material though my main concentration is in classical music.

Looking forward to meeting you!

-Ms. Nikki
