From strumming chords & holding a pick, to using a Spider Capo, alternate tuning & arranging pieces for solo acoustic guitar, I work to inspire & elevate technique, musicality & fluency with the acoustic guitar.

About Alex
Hey, my name is Alex. I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, keyboards, voice, drums, flute, etc.), composer, performer, recording artist, arranger/orchestrator/transcriber, recording engineer/producer & music educator.

I graduated from the University of St. Thomas "Cum Laude" in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance, with minors in Music Production & Composition. While attending St. Thomas I served as the Music Theory tutor, as well as the live sound/stage/light/recording technician for student & faculty recitals.

I have been playing professionally & teaching for over a decade. My passion for music is something that I love to share with anyone else who feels inclined to make music. My goal is to share the skills & knowledge I've acquired throughout my experiences with those willing to learn & dedicate themselves
to the craft of making music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am experienced in most major genres of music: classical, jazz, blues, rock, funk, folk, metal, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, instrumental rock, "shred," pop, world music, electronica, etc. & feel comfortable conveying the techniques, approaches & idioms to a student by breaking them down into digestible components, while making these new ideas relatable to material they are already familiar with.

In the end, I want the student to learn what they're most interested in learning. I'm here to answer any questions they may have & with my experiences, I feel confident that I will be able to either answer these questions or point them in the right direction. Some topics covered:

Scales/modes
Ear training
Instrument-specific techniques (ie bending, tapping, sweep picking, etc.)
Songwriting & Composition
Arranging & Orchestrating
Sight-reading
Improvisation
Chordal theory & how to read charts
Practice routines & approaches
Instrument maintenance
Instrument-based gear (guitars, amplifiers, effects, picks, slides, capos, etc.)

The student will learn at the pace they set for themselves & can only get out of it the amount of effort they put forth. I expect my students to practice on a regular basis (however brief each session may be). Consistency is key for progress to be made, & if they hold up their end of the bargain, the payoffs will be quite substantial!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Practice amplifier, tuner, music stand(s), guitar picks & cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide guitar neck paper. I expect the students to have their own instrument & any materials they may need to achieve the goals they've set for themselves (such as a weekly notebook).

*** Specialties ***
Progressive rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, disco, classical, acoustic fingerstyle/slap, flamenco guitar; music theory, sight-reading, composition, songwriting, film scoring, music production.

I took beginner's guitar lessons with Alex. He took into account what my playing goals were, stylewise and whatnot. He's super knowledgeable on musical subjects besides just guitar. I've come away feeling that I have good foundational knowledge to build upon as I progress in my playing. I had the five lesson package, which I felt suited my needs. Tip: If you do something like that, space out your lessons at least every other week, so that you have time to practice and grasp what you're learning. Be sure to ask questions if something is new to you, especially if you're a beginner. I highly recommend guitar lessons from Alex!

Learn your favorite songs and riffs... Soloing, rhythm guitar, fingerpicking, and more. The foundation of music lessons is good ears and good time feel (groove). These are skills that all the best musicians have. That, along with some study of guitar basics will cover about half of our lesson time. The other half should be devoted to the kind of music that inspired you to look me up. My hope is that you will become a well rounded musician and guitar player, and that we'll both discover new music :-)

I also enjoy preparing for jam sessions, auditions, and competing for placement in school ensembles and for scholarships.

About Jordan
*Experienced teacher and professional musician...
-Has performed with:
Great Good Fine Ok, Leonard Patton, Gilbert Castellanos, Francisco Torres, 10,000 Maniacs, The Mighty Untouchables, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra, and many more.
-Recorded on national tv ads for Dreyer's, KFC, Coca-Cola.
-Over 6,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students.
-More than five years of teaching experience in classroom settings: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college music ensembles
-Students have included: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from around the world :)

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I enjoy teaching kids and adults of all ages. When you arrive for our first lesson, we'll start by getting to know your musical tastes and aspirations. Then we make a plan. Then we play!

Everybody's path is different, but we must start with a strong foundation in the fundamentals. After we start to establish some technique on your instrument we will explore music that suits you from a practical stand point in your development, and very importantly, stylistically. Together we will plan a curriculum that keeps you motivated toward your goals and that fits your life style.

You can expect a laid back, yet focused environment. Most of all, you can look forward to progress! Hope to see you soon.

I teach beginning and intermediate guitar. I am originally self-taught, though I have a BA from Millersville University with a minor in Music.

I am all about building a strong musical foundation and introducing the magic and wonder that is music to my students. My students learn how to how to read music — standard musical notation and tablature — understand the songs they play, how to perform, and how to communicate with other musicians. Plucking, strumming, fingerpicking, chords, single notes, scales and modes in addition to guitar care and tuning are just some of the aspects of learning the guitar. With a strong foundation, students can more easily and quickly explore other instruments and musical styles.

If you are looking for instructor who can teach you to shred and rip solos, I am not the instructor for you. However, if you want to build a strong musical foundation and learn from an instructor who can teach you fundamental skills in an understandable and fun way so that ...

About Jules
I have been singing, playing instruments and performing since the early 1970's. I love teaching the magic that is music.

I have taken several guitar lessons with Jules via FaceTime, and I've learned so much! It is so nice to be able to learn how to play an instrument from my own home. The lessons were tailored to me and my own progress. She not only teaches chords and notes, but the music theory behind the chords, which can be applied to any instrument. Each lesson with her is more rewarding than the last.

I have been teaching acoustic guitar for over 9 years. Curriculum is student-specific but in most cases will include chord theory, strum patterns, fingerpicking, songwriting, and soloing.

About Matt
Hi! My name is Matt M. and I am the owner and founder of Black & White Music Services, Inc., a professional music education and production company.
I began teaching at a fairly early age and moved to teaching privately over 9 years ago. I have a deep passion for music and the guitar and do my best to instill that same passion in new and experienced players alike. Throughout my playing career I have participated in numerous ensembles including jazz bands, classical groups and quartets, as well as solo performance groups. I am extremely thorough when it comes to my teaching style. I make sure the student has a clear understanding of not only the how but also the why while keeping my curriculum fun and interesting. Every student is different and I do my best to gain an understanding of the individual and build a lesson plan best suited for
that individual.

We will cover music theory, technique, and getting to know the fingerboard, or I can teach you a specific song of your choice written out in tab.
Ideally both will be covered so you can learn the mechanics behind the music that you love to play!

About Greg
I have been playing music for over 30 years, and have been teaching music for almost half of that time. I have performed and recorded throughout the Midwest in a variety of cover and original bands ranging in styles from metal, rock, to R&B/Jazz and Blues. I teach these styles as well.

The most important thing for me as a music instructor is to get to know the student. I then tailor the lesson in a way that will resonate with the personality of the student. Finding the right balance of technique, theory, and fun, my goal is to have the student leave the lesson eager to go home, practice and come back for more. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

I took lessons from Greg when I was much younger say 12-13 for a year or more. He taught me a lot and had me playing guitar really fast, I always tried to do what he asked and he never ever got frustrated if I did it wrong or couldn't play what we were learning right away correctly!. Also all of what he taught me stayed in my head all these years some how and I kinda progressively got better and better!. I'm pretty happy with my playing and a lot of others are to!. Greg has something special about his students and teaching them to play the guitar correctly no matter what or how long it takes, he cares about you as a student. You get out what you put in ,but be patient cause it also takes time. But you'll see the difference later down the road that Greg was the right teacher for learning to play and the theory behind the guitar.....I recommend him as a great guitar teacher!. I myself take lessons from him again at the age of 38 , I was able to find him on Facebook after all these years and we do lessons via Skype, I'm a very happy student, very happy!. And I thank Greg Gladman for that!.

I am a retired professor / consultant and have been taking acoustic guitar lessons from Tim for six years. I began as a brand new student with no background concerning the guitar but do have a background in voice and instrumental music (piano and saxophone) as a youth. As a subject matter resource, Tim is an individual that is exceptionally knowledgeable. He has excellent experience in the world of guitars: from the point of view as a luthier, to knowing and understanding the intricacies of a stringed instrument, to having a superb ability as as teacher. As an individual, Tim's personality is one that comfortably guides students and is supportive of them. And, his teaching style is all done with good sense of humor. I am fully confident in Tim as a teacher and without hesitation highly recommend him to students seeking musical instruction in guitars.

I started teaching myself guitar when I was fourteen, and I've been teaching myself ever since! When I teach someone else, I do everything I can to make it fun, simple, and low pressure--I know how stressful it can be to strive for perfection, so I do my best to encourage mistakes. I emphasize the importance of passion when learning to play an instrument. I truly believe that if you do not love it, you will never succeed at it. I am laid back, and enjoy teaching beginners. I am not perfect, but I am good.

About Nikki
Hey, I'm Nikki! I'm currently a student at Georgia State University, studying Film & Media, in order to work as a writer/director/music supervisor in film and television. I've been playing guitar and ukulele since I was a freshman in high school (5 years). I'm self-taught, and I play as often as I can. I write music, as well (I recently released an EP of original songs); it's something I genuinely love.

Like anything, you will not succeed at guitar if you do not practice. However, practicing is a breeze when you love what you are practicing. I taught myself guitar; spent hours on my bedroom floor, strumming buzzing strings and forcing shaking fingers into place; because I love it. I truly believe I can teach you to play guitar, if you really love it. Besides, I doubt there has ever been a person in this world who has picked up a guitar a
nd not loved it. It is addictive.

I am very laid back and easy to get along with. I do my best to make sure my students feel at ease; there is no pressure to be perfect, especially not early on. I try to keep humor in the room at all times; I know how stressful learning a new instrument can be, however, it can be a lot of fun, too.

I can't wait to meet you and share with you what I love! I know we'll have a great time.
