I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). Student lessons are designed and planned according to the his or her knowledge of music and level of playing as the student progresses. I teach the very beginner and those who have advanced in their playing.

About Charles
Charlie is a certified music teacher, who teaches in areas surrounding Wendell and travels to teach in the Raleigh, Zebulon and Knightdale areas. He teaches in his home in Wendell and travels to other areas on certain days. (See availability)

He first began teaching guitar and piano during his music studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. At the university and after receiving his degree in music education, he has taught and performed in various musical settings and venues which has included the genres of classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk and country. Besides teaching and performing, Charlie also is a songwriter who writes songs for his groups performances and teaches his more advanced students songwriting.

Drawing upon his education and experiences as both performer and teacher, he strives to rel
ate his background to his student's learning experiences and progress. As each student comes with his or her individual musical wants and interests, student lessons are designed to meet these needs of a particular student. Charlie has young students of ages 5 to 14 as well as students of upper ages. According to a student's level of musicianship (beginner, advanced or in between), students are taught how to read music, music theory in relation to their progress, chords, scales and how to write/compose their own songs. He has designed a method of teaching which is full of great musical exercises & fun illustrations for the young student to enjoy while learning skills on their instrument.

For example, students can began with simple fingerings of chords & beginning melodies played in slow rhythms to allow the student to develop at a comfortable pace. Students that can not read music notation begin simple reading exercises of note recognition, time signatures, note values, eye hand coordination and more.

*** Lesson Details ***
I design student lessons according the age, playing level and music related interests as lessons can cover a broad range of interests and musical styles. For my beginning students- to develop their understanding of playing chords and rhythms,
I teach chords as they relate to musical keys and some common rhythm patterns used in many popular songs.

For guitar students, I have designed & developed my own materials for guitar (sheets & accompanying CD) which guide students in practicing chords progressions, strum/rhythm patterns & scales/melodies in relation to chords. My students have shown much success in these methods of concentrating on developing that essential sense & feel for playing different rhythm styles. Piano instruction is centered on learning to read music notation and music theory as it relates to the student's progress.

As students advance, more emphasis is placed on improvising on melodies, different approaches to soloing and chord extensions and substitutions. Also, students are taught music theory as it relates to their progress to enable them to create their own music.

I have a good selection of method books and materials to fit each student's level of musicianship and choice of playing style(s) to extend upon their interests and goals.

My approach to teaching is to make lessons fun and enjoyable in a comfortable and relaxed setting to allow the student full
concentration on each lesson. But, also to provide the necessary guidance and encouragement to challenge and motivate students to improve and develop natural strengths and new skills.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a good selection of materials (many I've developed), extra instruments if needed and recording equipment. The student will need the instrument and an amp for electric guitar.

*** Specialties ***
Teach theory as relates to students progress- examples, chords as relate to major scales, understanding of I IV V chords
in popular music genres, develop knowledge of chords & rhythmic sense before learning songs. I teach in styles of blues,
rock. jazz, country and classical.

I began piano lessons with Charlie as a total beginner and he quickly helped me find my footing. He was always patient and encouraging and asking questions designed to make sure the lessons were structured in a way that would most efficiently achieve my own personal goals. I'm usually a pretty nervous person, but Charlie has a warm presence that makes it easy even for people like me to be able to open up and focus on what's important, the music. I highly recommend him to anyone who's been thinking about learning the piano but hasn't quite been able to take the plunge yet.

I've been teaching Piano for 7 years. I teach a variety of skills, including ear training (playing by ear), reading/sightreading, dictation/transcription, and more! I specialize in classical, jazz, and gospel music, typically use Faber books for my beginning kids, and have the following tools available for your first lessons: notebook, paper, page protectors, and pencils. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Le'Andra
Le’Andra McPhatter was born into a clan of musicians, singers, as well as music lovers. Since the age of 3, she has been enthusiastic about music, especially the piano. Growing up as a self-taught pianist, she gained her start in the church and studied theory and musical notation independently. Music has influenced her life so eloquently that she is en-route to her BA in Jazz Studies with a Certification in Teaching (Dec 2017). Along with piano, LeAndra also has experience training vocals and playing clarinet in both middle and high schools. She is a multi-genre performer who takes great joy in instructing people of all ages about the fun, beautiful journey music has to offer. She believes that the most beautiful thing about music is how it allows people to share a piece of their world with complete strangers – creating an intimate, unden
iable connection that people will never forget.

About Julie
I have a very complete formal classical music education background. I have been learning piano when I was 5, and I have been learning flute when I was 9. I was educated in music school during middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate school (New York University). I also took many classes, which are related to woodwind teaching in college. I've started my teaching career since 2011, I am good at providing different teaching methods for different students. It would be really fun to work with me, you will definitely like playing flute and piano.

I worked in an orphanage when I was a sophomore. I worked as a general music tutor, some of them were kids who needed special cares, and I did a successful work there. I taught them how to play with music.

He helped me put together a songbook, taught me how to properly speak to the accompanist, and act out the lyrics I was singing. I have seen which are the problems that most of the students struggle with and I also have seen a lot of teachers that don't help them in a good way.

So that's why I created lessons with an individual approach for each student, applying knowledge that I received from wonderful teachers I have had.

I come from a strict Russian method, but I found a way to balance this methods with the student itself, because everyone is unique.

About Alejandro
Hello! I'm from Venezuela, a country that has a lot of rhythms and music colors.

I started at the age of 6 and then formally at the age of 12 (a little bit late). I studied at the Simon Bolivar Conservatory in Caracas and then I moved to the US.

Here the mix of different cultures and music has created a deep impact on me, so I tend to create interesting programs for my students. Music that goes from J.S. Bach to Samuel Barber, or from Igor Stravinsky to Juan Vicente Lecuna.

I also have attend masterclasses of wonderful teachers such as Simone Dinnerstein, Yoheved Kaplinsky, András Schiff, Jerome Lowenthal and Hung Kuan Chen. Experiences that have been very enriching.

In Venezuela, I also studied venezuelan piano music with the pianist and composer Luisa Elena Paesano, and with pianist Guiomar Narváez. They impulsed me in a way that I
started to work with the contemporary composers that are still alive and that still create academic music inspired in Venezuelan rhythms and flavors.

It will be very exciting to share all these experiences with my future students!
