About Adia
Adia has been described as having “a voice full of personality and expression.” Her vocal stylings have been called soulful, soothing, and classy. Dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, her energetic and exciting performances are marked by a blend of jazz standards, original compositions, and an exploration of the elements of jazz found in contemporary music genres. For over ten years Adia performed with Generations, a jazz ensemble dedicated to the preservation of jazz music, consisting of some of the most seasoned jazz musicians in the triangle area, opening for Jimmy Heath and performing with Gary Bartz. Her debut CD First Take, features Generations. Adia is still often accompanied by her father, Generations bassist Freeman L., a bassist with over thirty years of jazz performing experience.

A skilled and passionate performer,
Adia works with various jazz instrumentalists. She currently performs with the her Quartet which routinely features jazz professionals, instructors, and students from North Carolina and the US east coast on drums, bass, piano, and horns.

A native of Durham, NC, Adia holds Bachelors degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies from North Carolina Central University and a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from New York’s Queens College. She was chosen as an outstanding performer by Downbeat Magazine in 2006, and was selected to participate in the 2006 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead International Jazz Residency and Performance Project. Each lesson will be comprised of a vocal warm-up, vocalizing exercises, ear-training, music theory, and singing. I will include a little history and diction when needed. When you study with me you will leave with the ability to sing any type of music of your choosing. I will infuse each student with my own passionate spirit for music. Lets sing!

All styles! I will teach you skills you will treasure for the rest of your life.

About Allison
Hi! My name is Allison and I'm an opera singer. I fell madly in love with music and singing as a young child and was bitten by the opera bug at age 15. Ever since seeing that first opera, I've never looked back. I did lead roles in my high school musicals, then got my Bachelor of Music and my Master of Music degrees in Classical Voice and Opera Performance both from competitive conservatories. Ever since graduation, I've been lucky enough to make my work as a professional singer. I've traveled all over the country and even internationally bringing this amazing art form to audiences. Now I feel like my dream has come true because I get to do what I love: sing! Pavarotti said, "I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to." I feel so lucky to have a life in music and now I want to s
hare everything I've learned with you.

Students of mine regularly are chosen for lead roles in school and extracurricular musicals and operas and score very high in school music evaluations.

*** Lesson Details ***
During a voice lesson with me, we'll warm up and do vocal exercises for the first half, then we'll learn new music together or work on music you've already learned. I love teaching all styles of classical music and working in many different languages including French, German, Italian, English, and more. I teach lyric diction of all of these languages and the styles of each composer. Above all, lessons with me are relaxed and really fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room w/ electronic piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical Vocal Technique. I feel very comfortable assigning repertoire of any difficulty and I am especially confident in my lyric diction knowledge of Italian, French, German, and English. I can teach audition preparation and audition technique, as well as acting and stage technique for singers.

Allison is amazing! I told her I thought I was tone deaf during our first lesson lol. I was so nervous but she is such a great coach and really makes you feel comfortable. My singing has improved so much and my family and friends are able to notice. She has helped me to build confidence in my voice. I'm even recording songs now! So grateful to have her as a coach. Thank you Allison!

I like to tailor my lesson around each persons needs, especially with singing because your instrument is simply YOU. We will learn proper body posture and breathing for singing. we will go over vocal health and exercises that will strengthen range and techniques, ear training and sight singing. Then we will pick songs to work on to incorporate what we have learned.

About brittany
Hello all!
I am a musician and lover of all things creative. I have been singing professionally, myself, for over ten years. Some of my greatest training came from singing in a capella quartet that has been awarded international championships. I've studied all kinds of music from classical to pop, jazz, country and Broadway. I started teaching lessons in collage and now work full time as a music teacher. I have also studied yoga, movement, flexibility and strength for many years on my own. And for those who are interested in calligraphy or knitting, I have been known to be a constant crafter. Mostly, I love teaching for the light bulb moment when somebody "gets" something they didn't before. I love working with people of all ages and levels!

Rebecca has been a fantastic teacher. I was very nervous getting in starting, because I am beginning this experience later than most and was concerned about "an old dog learning a new trick". With the stress of everyday life, I did not want to create stress, but was looking for new ways to expand and focus my mind. She has made this experience rewarding, fun and enlightening. The lesson time seems to fly by and I always anticipate getting back home after work so I can continue to work on what she has taught me.

This has been very rewarding for me!

Once we have the foundation we will build on that along with whatever style/genre you desire.
