My first priority is to inspire and motive. Find out the students wants and needs, then tackle them head on. As we do this proper technique is a must, it is the difference between a good guitarist and a great guitarist. Music theory and understand the language of music. If you ever want to join a band, the bass is essential instrument, because it goes well with the drums. I cover a wide range of styles from blues, funk, rock and jazz! Go for it!

As a kid did you set up pots and pans or pillows and hit them with spoons like I did? Well, then the drums may be for you! You can learn drums with a pair of sticks! Drums are a total BLAST to play, and if you are not one who wishes to read sheet music, then the drums are perfect for you! Seth is a good dude. I came across his profile with Take Lessons a month ago, after browsing through other instructors in my area and other schools in my area. He's got the experience and knowledge, so I connected with him for an initial lesson. It was a quick one to get introductions out of the way and a good idea of goals/direction. From there we further honed our plans for my instruction in an hour lesson and are directing our sights on my upcoming auditions. Seth has shown me through simple explanations of theory that his teaching style is very approachable, and additionally, was able to show me good technical skills on working my way around the horn, which is especially useful for someone like me in my twenties who already has a few bad habits (haha). Like I said, he's a good dude, good sense of humor so I feel at ease practicing with him and his knowledge is insane! Not only for saxophone but in so many other areas of music! You'd be doing yourself a favor to take at least an hour lesson from him and see how you go.

Seth and I had a great first lesson. I haven't played in a long time and he gave me helpful pointers on how to improve my embouchure. He gave me positive feedback on my rhythm and constructive feedback on my tone. We worked through some songs together. Next time I will probably ask him to play some more for me so I can hear what I need to improve for a particular song. I highly recommend him.

Beginner to Intermediate. Rhythm, tab, and musical notation.

About Natalie
Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.

By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.

As an adult, she would go on to fill her life with the world of music as a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist.

Graduating from Elmhurst College (1997) with a Bachelor's in Music, Natalie received high accolades earning a membership in the Lambda Sigma Psi Music Honor Society.

During her college years, Natalie created and owned a local music publication called, "The Local Buzz". At this moment she had discovered her
desire to teach. "I just wanted everyone I knew in music to know and use what I was learning, or had learned from the music classes, professionals I had been meeting and working with, and my overall music life experiences". By 1997, Natalie was signed to an independent label and embarked on a new adventure.

"Music is an adventure, but without the foundation and passion I had as a child, I would have never landed where I did. I truly LOVE to teach and share what I know about piano, and the world of music. Music is what I know, and know best. Helping to create a solid foundation and build confidence in someone embarking on a journey in music is the most rewarding profession I have ever had the honor of participating in."

*** Lesson Details ***
Natalie enjoys teaching students of any age, but specializes in piano, voice and beginning guitar, tailoring lessons to each individual's goals and reasons for learning whether it be for personal pleasure or professional performance.

Keeping things lighthearted and fun, Natalie breathes confidence into each student using her sense of humor, and down-to-earth personality.

Feeding off 40 years of personal and professional experiences, Natalie patiently listens to the student's desires, needs and notates their learning patterns, allowing for growth at their own pace.

Natalie's goal is to Make Music Matter to you and create a foundation that will allow you to continue to find joy in making music for the rest of your life.

Ken has taught electric and acoustic guitar for 20+ years

About Ken
At age 12 Ken picked up a guitar and fell in love with the instrument. He began with an obsession with Metallica and related bands that later evolved to a passion for classical and jazz music, music theory.

From 2008 -2010 completed the music program at Diablo Valley College in June of 2010, which includes extensive coursework in Music theory, Piano and Guitar. Since 2011 Ken has been a Jazz Guitar Performance Major at Cal State East Bay. There he has studied Classical and jazz Guitar performance with world class musicians.

"Music has many different levels and the beautiful thing is there is a place for everybody. I have spent a lot of time throughout my music career going “back to basics” in order to become a better musician. We are all capable of becoming great musicians and just because someone can play faster than you doesn't n
ecessarily make them better. Music provides everything from healing power to just plain fun for the human spirit so I always encourage students to go at there own pace and work within their abilities."

*** Lesson Details ***
20+ years experience as a musician and teacher Ken has taken self taught route and the lessons route. "I believe 100% that being taught by someone who has sufficient experience really provides the roadway for a solid foundation whether you are planning on being a pro, just for fun and all levels in between. The combination of self-discipline and a good teacher are a must to have as a musician."

Amongst many other approaches of teaching music, I try to instill the 3 most lacking areas most musicians usually have to begin.

1. Sight reading: Unfortunately most common with guitarists! Tablature is a somewhat useful way to start but reading music will open many doors and opportunities for any musician

2. Collaboration: A teacher provides one way of collaboration as well as a band or an ensemble at school or in the community.

3. Improvisation: I provide a music theory background and I have a method plan for chord progressions, and help with learning the entire guitar.

I take step-by-step approaches towards giving a student encouragement and instilling music appreciation. I am very organized so every lesson will be documented and we will work on specific areas of fundamental development. Most of all have fun! That what gets us playing music in the first place!

I look Forward to meeting you!

*** Studio Equipment ***

Ken is an awesome teacher and an great person. He teaches my 5 year daughter and she loves his lessons and his jovial approach. Within 4 weeks, she has picked up a lot of things and is improving day by day. He is patient as you ought to be with the kids and yet persistent enough to stick to the task.

I am really looking forward to them picking up songs in the coming lessons. I will recommend him anytime and completely vouch for his credentials and ability as an excellent guitarist as well as teacher.

I, myself, was a peer of Mike's at the University of Redlands. We both studied jazz guitar performance and have performed together on multiple occasions. Even so, Mike's ability as a performer far surpassed any of his colleagues'. In fact, his capabilities on the guitar were so outstanding that I decided that I would take lessons with him, in addition to regular lessons with my school instructor. To my surprise, the only thing better than listening to Mike's playing was his ability to transfer his knowledge to others.

His lessons are always conducted in a professional and friendly manner. I always left with a deeper understanding of music and as an improved player.

He is well versed in many styles and his professional experience as a musician is something to be sought after when looking for a guitar teacher. His understanding of the instrument and music theory will ensure that whatever questions you may have, he will know the answer. No matter where your skill level is, there will always be something to learn from this man.

Before I started taking lessons with Mike I was able to play the guitar but wasn't very experienced. Mike and I set a plan for myself that I would enjoy but also get me to be able to play what I wanted to play. He even helped me through some of my music classes at my college (Music Theory, Musicianship, Jazz, etc.) and taught me to apply what I was learning to the guitar. He taught me how to read music, play blues and jazz, and overall become a better musician.

He was challenging but made it overall fun and exciting. Whenever I ran into a problem he was able to break it down and figure out what I needed to do to get over it.

He is a great teacher and I am really grateful I started taking lessons with mike. I strongly recommend him; whether you have just started out and just want to learn or an experienced musician trying to get better, he will help you get there.
