About Caleb
Caleb moved from his hometown of Wichita, Kansas, to Chicago in 2008 to attend DePaul University, where he received his Bachelor’s in Trumpet Performance studying under Matt Lee and Tage Larsen. Since then, Caleb has picked up a variety of regular gigs across a wide spectrum of styles, genres, and types of events.

Caleb performs in Chicago with soul-pop band The Right Now, the progressive Pocket Radio, the soulful Bassel and the Supernaturals, the genre-defying Willy Dynomite, the Latin-grooved Contrabanda, and funk outfit Nasty Snacks. He has played in horn sections for Latin, funk, and big-band jazz bands, as well as Afrobeat, indie rock, R&B/soul, and hip-hop/rap groups.

He has also played the national anthem for the president at opening night of the Chicago Bulls season, been featured at Chicago Blackhawks games, principal trump
et in symphony orchestras, pit orchestras and in the DePaul Screamin’ Demons Pep Band at Madison Square Garden. Caleb also regularly lends his solo talents to wedding parties and church services, and is one-fourth of the Chicago for-hire horn section Revolution Horns. Other musical endeavors include a performance on the Steve Harvey Show, playing trumpet for the Broadway musical I Love Lucy in downtown Chicago, and a coveted chance to perform in master classes for his idols Adolph “Bud” Herseth and Chris Martin.

Caleb has been teaching privately in the Chicago area for 6 years now and is eager to teach students with any amount of experience, especially those who are eager to approach music from a variety of perspectives.

I believe that the best way to teach a brass instrument at any level, is simply to check in and make sure that the student has a great understanding of what a beautiful sound is on their instrument. This is done in a patient and positive environment, filled with the best possible music making to serve as a model to aspire to. With small, attainable goals and encouragement to practive at least a small amount on a daily basis, you cannot help of improve, and hopefully have a good time playing whatever music interests you while doing so. The journey is a bit different for everyone, but anyone can make a beautiful sound, and go from there!

I like to strike a balance of teaching out of various method books(depending on the student and their level of ability, some are more suitable than others of course and I help guide the way), and learning to play by ear, which can be almost anything the student wants to learn, provided it's not overly complicated for them. Technique has it's place, but is certainly not the whole story. Learning music that is fun, while at the same time learning to get better at your instrument, makes the overall process enjoyable and rewarding. Once you have the right tools, music is something that can be fulfilling for the rest of your life, especially when you learn to do it in a fun and healthy way.

Trumpet Lessons

Piano Lessons
I differentiate between concepts and skills, while stressing the importance of mastering both. As important as it is to understand the intervalic relationships in something like the major scale, this knowledge does little for the pianist if she or he cannot pick out the notes to the different scales in real time. In observing that each person demonstrates unique learning patterns and abilities, I have learned that some people will come to understand the conceptual through mastery of memorized tasks while some will succeed with technical mastery only after achieving some conceptual understanding.
Voice Lessons
Having first begun singing at 22 years old, I know first hand that it’s never to late to start singing. Having some experience in school but not fully as a professional till in my 20′s, I have learned from some of the top professionals in the South Florida area. My first vocal lessons was with Gloria Estefan’s back up singer Jon Secada. Jon has his first hit “Just Another Day” that stayed at #1 for several weeks. His one lesson really helped me use singing in my gigging around town. From that time on, I have used this technique for all my students. focusing on JUST BREATHING, has helped many of my students.

Teaching Sound Recording
Working in the early 1980s with recorded music and computers, I was introduced to the new wave of recording at its birth. At Miami Dade Community College, I taught and assisted students in Composition, Sound Development, and Sound Recording using Mac computers and PC’s. As of this day, I personally teach recording in Logic Pro, Bias Peak and Mastering using Waves plug ins and having finished products in Mp4 format and or CD’s.

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

Jordan taught both my teenager and pre-teen trumpet for a couple of years, and was able to extend their ranges on the very first lesson. He is organized, kind, a great musician, and he stuck to the fundamentals - a great teacher.

The trumpet is one of the most demanding yet rewarding instruments. As a dominant voice in classical and jazz; the trumpet can be a section or solo instrument.

As his primary instrument, Vince began playing trumpet in 1998. He took lessons provided by his elementary school. Vince advanced rapidly, quickly winning principle chair in school ensembles and later with select county and state wide bands. He participated in many solo competitions performing classical and jazz trumpet throughout middle and high school.

In 2003, Vince began studying classical trumpet privately with Mark Klose then later with John Maguda. Vince studied many of the classic methods including Arban's Complete Conservatory Method, Schlossberg's Daily Drills and Technical Studies, Clarke's Technical Studies, and Stamp's Warm-Ups & Studies. Vince also studied solo repertoire by Hindemith, Haydn, and Kennan among others.

Vince Tampio is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Philadelphia, PA. Although firmly rooted in jazz, he is comfortable with a wide variety of genres including rock, soul, funk, folk, classical, and electronic.

Vince’s most recent solo album Live at PafA (2017) “is a contemporary instance of fusion done right,” and whose “nontraditional instrumentation maintains a spacious environment that proves ideal for a set brimming with imaginative, drawn-out improvisation” (Matthew Aquiline). This project was recorded as part of HotHouse at PafA After Dark: a concert series of the Philadelphia Jazz Project. Live at PafA was preceded by Syzygy (2014) and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self prod
ucing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in The Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.

Vince has appeared as a side man on more than 25 albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, the Cat’s Pajamas, and You Do You. He is a founding member of the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. Vince also writes and arranges for the Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Matt Gallagher, Craig Morris, Claudio Roditi, Malcolm McNab, Scott Holbert, Jeffrey Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.

Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. He currently teaches a number of electric bass students at Philadelphia's Rock to the Future. Vince privately teaches trumpet, electric bass guitar, ear training, music theory, improvisation, arrangement, and composition to students of all ages and levels.

Since each student approaches music differently; I tailor my teaching to fit their approach. I ask each student, "What are you aiming to accomplish?" Together, we set short and long term goals. I believe a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. My students receive a holistic approach to music applicable to whatever instrument of their choice.

I like how this instructor really helped you practice at a pace you were comfortable at. He was very helpful in teaching me how to play higher and lower notes as well as playing songs that I liked.

Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

Before moving here he was in the San Francisco Bay area for many years with positions including Second Trumpet in San Jose Symphony and Principal Trumpet in California Symphony for eighteen seasons. As well he did numerous national tours and recordings with the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera. I love to inspire students to practice, that is where the real magic happens. I love to see them not only set goals for themselves but reach them. I am willing to do whatever it takes to see them succeed. I love working with people and encouraging them. I have been a horn player since August 2007. I am studying french horn at Grand Valley State University but am also efficient in euphonium, piano, music theory, aural (reading rhythms and reciting them aloud), and trumpet. I have been in marching band for 6 years on mellophone so I can also help with teaching marching techniques and mellophone playing since it is very different from french horn.

Problem's with range, sight-reading, tone, or you just don't know how to get better at trumpet? I have my master's in trumpet performance from UTA and am starting to build a healthy studio at the middle/high school level and I'm looking to branch out, all ages welcome though. I have 3 years experience and am classically focused. Lessons are catered to the needs/goals of the student. My biggest strength is pedagogy. If you have a serious issue in your playing or don't know how to improve, you've come to the right man.

I am a classically trained trumpet player that has build his studio of students at the middle/high school level in Arlington and Mansfield ISD, and I am the brass marching tech at Lamar high school. I received my bachelor's in music education from The University of North Texas and my master's in trumpet performance from The University of Texas at Arlington. I currently play in the Crossroads Christian Church band, have played in concerts with the Arlington Community Band, and am looking to play professionally in orchestras around the metroplex.

The biggest plus I give my students is fixing the technical issues in their playing so that it is possible for them to pursue the playing goals of their choice. Many players who are passionate about music simply cannot pursue their dream because they are hindered by severe problems in range
, tone, sight-reading, endurance, finger technique, musicality, etc. I myself was not the most naturally gifted player out there and I had to really consider how the instrument worked in order to progress. Today, those issues are not problem to me now. There are many fine trumpet players out there who are great musicians but ineffective teachers of fundamentals as they simply never experienced the kinds of problems in their playing that many students unfortunately have. As a student, I too had many teachers like this. They were wonderful people, but not very helpful.

To sum it up, I can show you how to fix the problems in your playing so that you can make the music you want to make.

As a brass player, I have pedagogical experience with the trumpet. I have also played the trumpet through school. I can teach beginners on how to play a brass instrument and how to read music and pitch recognition.

About Xin
I am a professional Horn player. I am currently a student at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester getting my Bachelor's of Music under Professor Peter Kurau.

Horn players can expect to have a unique sound, and I intend to let the student harness that rather than stick to whatever standard of sound is preferred in our community. From my experience, horn players tend to build tension in the jaw, and as a person with TMJ (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction), I know how to recognize these pains and how to release tension and prevent it!

I have been studying classical horn playing for 7 years and have had experiences in various orchestras such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Ocala Symphony Orchestra. I am also a part of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival of the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018, a n
ationally-acclaimed summer festival. In addition, I studied the Natural Horn for 2 years, the predecessor to the modern French Horn. Despite having a classical background, I frequently have to play jazz when playing modern compositions and learned how to read lead sheets, so therefore I can bring a multi-faceted way of teaching every day.

I have experience teaching young kids in Baltimore through the OrchKids Summer Program. I was a Brass Intern and taught the horn players and at times the trumpet players. From this experience, I developed patience and an even stronger love for teaching to play the instrument to which I am dedicating my life. I haven't taken lessons from Xin, but as a colleague of hers at the Eastman School of Music, I can honestly say that she is one of the best and most dedicated horn players I've ever met. I have no doubt that Xin's skills as a musician would transfer well to her teaching. You won't go wrong with her.

I go to school with Xin and she is a very dedicated player with a beautiful sound. She is very knowledgeable of horn playing mechanics and will make an amazing teacher.
