Charlie is a certified music teacher, who teaches in areas surrounding Wendell and travels to teach in the Raleigh, Zebulon and Knightdale areas. He teaches in his home in Wendell and travels to other areas on certain days. (See availability)

He first began teaching guitar and piano during his music studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. At the university and after receiving his degree in music education, he has taught and performed in various musical settings and venues which has included the genres of classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk and country. Besides teaching and performing, Charlie also is a songwriter who writes songs for his groups performances and teaches his more advanced students songwriting.

Drawing upon his education and experiences as both performer and teacher, he strives to rel
ate his background to his student's learning experiences and progress. As each student comes with his or her individual musical wants and interests, student lessons are designed to meet these needs of a particular student. Charlie has young students of ages 5 to 14 as well as students of upper ages. According to a student's level of musicianship (beginner, advanced or in between), students are taught how to read music, music theory in relation to their progress, chords, scales and how to write/compose their own songs. He has designed a method of teaching which is full of great musical exercises & fun illustrations for the young student to enjoy while learning skills on their instrument.

For example, students can began with simple fingerings of chords & beginning melodies played in slow rhythms to allow the student to develop at a comfortable pace. Students that can not read music notation begin simple reading exercises of note recognition, time signatures, note values, eye hand coordination and more.

*** Lesson Details ***
I design student lessons according the age, playing level and music related interests as lessons can cover a broad range of interests and musical styles. For my beginning students- to develop their understanding of playing chords and rhythms,
I teach chords as they relate to musical keys and some common rhythm patterns used in many popular songs.

For guitar students, I have designed & developed my own materials for guitar (sheets & accompanying CD) which guide students in practicing chords progressions, strum/rhythm patterns & scales/melodies in relation to chords. My students have shown much success in these methods of concentrating on developing that essential sense & feel for playing different rhythm styles. Piano instruction is centered on learning to read music notation and music theory as it relates to the student's progress.

As students advance, more emphasis is placed on improvising on melodies, different approaches to soloing and chord extensions and substitutions. Also, students are taught music theory as it relates to their progress to enable them to create their own music.

I have a good selection of method books and materials to fit each student's level of musicianship and choice of playing style(s) to extend upon their interests and goals.

My approach to teaching is to make lessons fun and enjoyable in a comfortable and relaxed setting to allow the student full
concentration on each lesson. But, also to provide the necessary guidance and encouragement to challenge and motivate students to improve and develop natural strengths and new skills.

I have a good selection of materials (many I've developed), extra instruments if needed and recording equipment. The student will need the instrument and an amp for electric guitar.

I began piano lessons with Charlie as a total beginner and he quickly helped me find my footing. He was always patient and encouraging and asking questions designed to make sure the lessons were structured in a way that would most efficiently achieve my own personal goals. I'm usually a pretty nervous person, but Charlie has a warm presence that makes it easy even for people like me to be able to open up and focus on what's important, the music. I highly recommend him to anyone who's been thinking about learning the piano but hasn't quite been able to take the plunge yet.

For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make the learning interesting and fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I use different focusing strategies. I use positive mind set skills to teach how to use failures as a learning opportunities.

I have a Master's Degree (2012) in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as degree in violin performance from Poland.
I studied piano in Poland for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program.

I
teach music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am a fan of the Essential Elements 2000 for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards.
For teaching music theory I mostly used Master Theory.

I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions.
I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs.
I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.
All my lessons include: technique: I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both.
music theory: I use Master Theory or other books such as Hal Leonard's Piano Note spellers & Piano Music Theory books for younger ages, music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.

Besides Essential Elements 2000 for strings I also use String Tunes and Fiddle Runners to add more fun to the lessons. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.

I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The students needs to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place to be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.

About Patrick
The Vocal Artist

A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his
first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.

After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses.
Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.

Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.

Lessons

Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music:
"Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."

Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.

Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

Beginning Lesson Outline

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.

Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.

You will learn:

Proper breathing techniques and practice.
Properly warming up the voice.
Working on music theory (reading music, etc.)
Ear training and pitch.
Expression, phrasing and performing.
Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities.
Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience.
Confidence and self-esteem

Depending on student's progress, specific lesson components above will be emphasized so that the student's goals will be achieved.
My goal is to prepare you to the best of my ability for you to achieve your dreams.

Awesome!

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

Aldo is a San Diego native with over 9 years of professional performing, and teaching experience. His musical path started at a young age in middle school and was initially self-taught on guitar. Throughout his early years he learned as much as he could on his own to be able to perform and did so and began performing in bands at the age of 18. Once he began his performing career, he also began studying music at Mesa College. During his years in school, he studied Music Theory as well as Classical Guitar under the guidance of George Svoboda and Jude Weirmier. My lesson plan is very simple. First of all, it revolves all around you and what you want to do with guitar. It doesn't matter if you want to master your skills before you hit the recording studio, prepare for the stage, learn the song you have always wanted to play, or just learn the instrument because it has always been your dream. I can help you. My approach is very relaxed and encouraging and I will always provide feedback to make sure you are going to hit your goals.After determining your goals, I will cater your lessons to help you reach them. Students who would like to read music will go through method books and supplemental material. Those who would like to start playing right away will start off with chords, understanding charts, counting rhythm, learning tablature, and reading simple sheet music. Intermediate to advance students can expect to focus on areas where they need help. New techniques can introduced or improved such as sweep arpeggios, tapping, speed picking, and performance tips.For Classical Guitar, I can help students from a beginning level to an early intermediate level. I will help them work on their sight reading and technique along the way. My classical guitar lessons will have a strong emphasis on the performance of the pieces assigned.

Aldo's studio is fully equipped with practice and performance amplifiers. A spare electric guitar is available for students if they happen to forget theirs. Recording equipment, drums, bass guitar, and bass amp is also available for accompaniment. Repair and maintenance tools are also available for quick adjustments or restringing a guitar.

Aldo is the best guitar instructor I have ever had

Now granted, I haven't had too many. Half a dozen at most. But let's be real, here. Most guitar instructors are terrible. They don't have any kind of cohesive lesson plan, or they show up to the lesson high, or they spend the whole half hour "showing you what you will eventually be able to do" by jamming on their own, while you watch.

Not Aldo.

Aldo is like the quintessential guitar instructor. He shows up on time. He has lessons prepped, including printed AND digital sheet music (courtesy of an excellent iPad app). He carefully monitors your progress and updates the lesson plan accordingly.

But my absolute favorite thing about taking guitar lessons from Aldo is that he teaches you EVERYTHING. Technique, Chops, Chords, Music Theory, Improvisation, he knows it all. Also, literally any song you bring in to him, asking him to learn how to play, he will be able to learn in 5 minutes flat and teach you, at least the basics, in half an hour.

I was a student of Aldo's for 2 years, and in that time my skill as guitarist grew by leaps and bounds, and I looked forward to Thursdays at 5:30 more than any other time of the week. I seriously cannot recommend him enough, and I hope you get to take a lesson from him soon.

Last year, I had the opportunity to study with Christian at CSU Northridge. Christian is one of the finest musicians I have come across in the years that I have been playing music. Not only does he have impressive skills with the guitar, he also has knowledge in the history of the guitar and music theory. When he was studying at CSUN, I was able to have some lessons with Christian on a baroque piece that was giving me trouble. First, I'd like to mention how patient he was with me when I was frustrated and lost in the music. Also, I was surprised at how much he knew about the music as he explained what was going on in the piece and why. Oh... did I mention that I had some AWESOME results after ONE lesson??? Do yourself the favor and check this guy out!

Jazz Sunpanich was born in Bangkok, Thailand and was raised in Nonthaburi. She grew up watching a lot of musicals with her father and was surrounded by her father’s community theatre group, Bhuddasil, where she first started developing her acting and singing skills. She performed in a number of Thai musicals with her father and had many tours around Thailand. In high school she became the school’s theatre director and began organizing, translating, and adapting numerous musicals and shows for the students to put on.
In 2009, she started Classical vocal training with Dusadee Banomyong, a Thai classical music master and The national astist, and was accepted into a highly prestigious choral group in Thailand, Suanplu Chorus. She worked professionally with other professional singers and conductors and performed concerts in many diff
erent countries all around the world.

In 2011 she started teaching at KPN Music Academy in Thailand where she coached young talents to sing properly and inspired them to pursue their dreams.

She received a Bachelor Degree in Music from Silapakorn University, Thailand in 2013 and decided to pursue her dream of becoming a musical theatre actress on Broadway. She moved to the United States at the end of 2013 and started her Theatre Arts education at American River College.

In 2014, she was chosen for the lead role in the anti-human trafficking production She Has a Name with Free Fall Stage for which she received highly positive reviews from critics. She Has a Name toured around California to spread awareness of human trafficking and its impact on those involved. Since coming to America in 2013, she has also done several plays and musical with American River College and the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival. She was nominated for the Irene Ryan scholarship competition for her ensemble role in The Music Man in 2015 and went to the competition at American College Theatre Festival in Denver, Colorado. She was recently in a production of Cabaret that has been nominated to compete at the American College Theatre Festival in 2017.

I've been teaching piano since 2012 and have been playing since 2000, although my first instrument was the clarinet, which I began learning in 1996. During my final two years at Atkinson County High School, I conducted the band at games and assisted the high school director in leading the band class whenever he was absent or otherwise occupied. My first two years of college were concentrated in piano performance, with more courses in music theory, world music, ear training, and music appreciation. In addition to my music background, have one bachelor's degree in philosophy and religious studies, and took my electives in sociology, gaining an award of excellence from the department of sociology, anthropology and criminal justice from Valdosta State. I then went on to Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated with a degree in Visual
Communications, concentration in photography.

Hi! My name is Lucas and I love to teach! I've been playing violin since I was 11 years old and currently hold two degrees. A Bachelor's degree from Florida State University and a Master's degree from DePaul University in Chicago - both are degrees in Violin Performance.
