About Harry
I have been teaching piano, music, movement and dramatic arts in the Northern Virginia area since 1993. Besides teaching lessons in students homes, I've taught in studios, public and private schools, camps and afterschool programs.

I teach all ages, but most of my Beginner students are between the ages of 7 and 12. I really enjoy working with this age group-- they are alot of fun and it' great to see how quickly they learn things!

Some of my students started with me as Beginners and are now teenagers, playing at the Intermediate Level. Besides playing more complex pieces, they also play popular songs they know and like. Music from the TV show "Glee" is a big favorite!

Some of my favorite composers are Anton Dvorak, JS Bach, Ludwig Von Beethoven, Scott Joplin, and Cole Porter. Some of my favorite musicians and bands are The Be
atles, U2, Paul Simon, Tori Amos, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, and B-52's.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginners, I generally use the Bastien Beginner series starting at the Primer Level and going through to Level Four. Depending on the student, going through the beginner level can take anywhere from four to six years. I use a lesson book, supplemental song book which features concepts learned, and a Theory book for written homework. Within 3-6 months, starting at the Primer Level, student will be reading notes on the musical staff and playing short pieces with both hand together.

Intermediate level students work on repetoire pieces from classical, ragtime, modern, jazz and popular music.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need to have a piano or keyboard in their home

I am thoroughly background checked every year and work with local after school programs in the area.

Over 30 years experience, love helping others learn the language of music!

About Stephanie
I am a career musician, and conservatory trained violin, piano and vocal instructor with over 25 years teaching experience, and a resume spanning many pages. I also am a well endorsed composer. Furthermore, I LOVE teaching! I am a competition judge, member of National Music Teachers Association, and Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have proven results, as documented on my students YouTube channel. With my instruction, you will learn quickly and most importantly, correctly, saving you time and resources as you reach your musical goals. Fact: One of the only activities that activates, stimulates, and uses the entire brain is music, so let's get started!

Some people have difficulty reaching a teachers' studio. For this reason, I have perfected my ability to teach via Skype or FaceTime. It is an advantage for my students to b
e instructed by a quality teacher. It's worth a try, isn't it?

Please note: I only accept weekly lesson students. Also, due to my performances, I'm not always able to this calendar up to date....so when you request a lesson time, allow me to communicate with you, if we need to adjust it a bit. It almost always works out if you don't mind doing that.

*** Lesson Details ***
All the students on my Student YouTube channel who have studied under three years, are practicing 2 hours a week, and you will have a similar result. That's 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Students under 5 practice about 10-15 minutes a day.

Please have an assignment book that lies flat, and keep it next to your music books as you practice between lessons. My instructions are very detailed to insure your best progress.

*** Studio Equipment ***
For on-line lessons, you will need a quiet place, and please test your sound and video prior to beginning of lesson. For students under 13 or so, do have a parent or caregiver taking notes while we work together.

*** Specialties ***
I have much experience with various learning styles, and in fact, am featured in a documentary made of one of my autistic students.

I began taking on line Organ lessons with Stephanie in July of 2016. She is an excellent instructor. She makes you want to learn and do your best. She is very patient and explains things very well. She asks that you practice 20 minutes a day. Since she inspires you to improve and do your best, it is easy to practice longer than requested. She has brought joy back into my life through music. I am very grateful.

I've taught from ages 4 to 74 on piano in my teaching studio, which has been kicking since 2001, after earning my degree in music performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. **NEW STUDENT SPECIAL!** I have just shifted my studio to online only, and I have studio times available, and I am excited to meet new students! From now through October 2017, I am offering a new online student special, where students can purchase lessons at a reduced rate! Students may purchase as many lessons at this rate as they like, but in November, rates will return to regular tuition. ($28 per 30-min session). I look forward to meeting you! Call Take Lessons today to sign up!

About Rachel
If you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I've taught hundreds of students over the past 15 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I've been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program
. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

In 2015, I began playing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, FaceTime, and Google Hangouts, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

Piano was the instrument I ran to when I was tired of classical guitar in college. As a consequence, I develop a very special relationship with it. I've learned to use it as a vehicle for expressing music in a way that's more free than any instrument that I do. Things I teach on piano usually include...

-Basic technique: scale fingerings, finger mechanics, dynamic posture
-Music Learning: how the piano makes music easier than with any other instrument, and what is the most efficient way to learn music
-Improvisation: how to explore music freely using easy keyboard techniques
-Composition: how to find and discipline your creativity through exploratory piano exercises

About Jonathan
I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Once you see the world and work with some unexpected challenges, you learn how to open up and knuckle down at the same time!

I am currently a full-time YouTube Creator, sidelining in cover bands and a solo act. Teaching is a big part of what I do online so I see my work as a private teacher as 'research' for the lessons I create. Although I'm firmly grounded in a classical music training, there's nothing you can ask about that I won't try to figure out. My favorite thing about teaching is using unexpected questions to develop new ideas that I then integrate into my original compositions. Check out my intro to the B
lues Raga video if you want to hear a good story about what I mean.

Recently I've had several articles published by the TakeLessons Blog. Check out my most recent post here.

Whether you've always wanted to learn how to play piano or you just want to see if piano is the right instrument for you, come on over to my studio and we will work together to get you where you want to be musically!

With a Masters degree in music, I provide a super friendly, patient, understanding, fun, and disciplined environment to help cultivate and nurish musical growth during your lessons.

Parents, you are always welcome to stay and watch as your child grows in confidence!

Let's get started!

About Mario
I am a professional singer who graduated as a Master vocal performer from the Universiy of Miami. I am happily married and my wife and I just moved to Lakeland from the hot Miami beaches!

I specialize in theatre music and am also passionate about a variety of styles ranging from pop to classical.
Whatever the genre, I will help you develop a technique that is tailored to you perfectly!

I sing a lot and am currently singing as one of the opera Tampa Singers at the Straz center in Tampa.
I love teaching and especially performing! But to get that singing gig it's all about the audition, and I've been there. So if you want to know how to score one with the judges during an audition, I'm your guy!

I have a passion for teaching and find finding a vocal technique that is just right with every single student!

Last year I taught voice and p
iano lessons at two different schools in Miami Florida, Florida Christian school and Miami Fine Arts academy. Both schools had wonderful students with great talent and after a year of study with me Every student was confident and excited to perform to show off their new musical prowess!

Ive also been teaching piano for several years and boy do I have a passion for this instrument. No other instrument can really compare to the music a piano can make in my opinion.

Nothing really beats the feeling of accomplishment you get once you've mastered a piano piece!

I love to meet other music lovers and cultivate a comfortable learning environment fit for musical growth! Let's do some work!

I found Mario to be a very knowledgeable instructor. He seemed extremely energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about the lesson. He listened to all the concerns I had about singing and really worked with me to begin the process of moving forward and singing with confidence. I appreciated how we didn't just stick with one style of music. He had me choose music from different genres. I would recommend him to anyone interested in singing. I meant to give him 5 stars in the previous review. I accidentally bumped one down. My apologies!!!

Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, passionate, and himself very talented, Mario is an outstanding voice teacher. What might be his best trait, however, is his belief in the capabilities of his students. Using a kind but gentle teaching style, he pushes students to develop their voices and become the better singers they want to be. Working with him, I improved immensely, and was sorry that his move meant he would no longer be my teacher. I am delighted, however, that others will get an opportunity to learn from him! Hey! Thanks for checking out my profile! I am an aspiring Music Therapist and Composer at Converse University. I have over 15 years of piano experience, and play 6 other instruments as well. I try my best to find ways to make lessons productive and fun, because I have been in student's shoes. I know how boring scales can be, and how hard it can be to find time to practice. I employ creative methods and games to motivate students of all ages and experiences levels to achieve the highest level of musical fluency. Since I am a composer, I have access to music software to notate songs at each student's individual level, as well as give lessons in composition. Feel free to message me with more questions! Thank you :-)

About Sarah
Hey there! Thanks for checking out my profile.

My name is Sarah, and I am a Music Therapy and Composition student at Converse. I have over 15 years of experience in piano, and play six other instruments as well. I have a passion for music, and love merging that passion with my love of teaching and helping others.

What makes my teaching style unique is that I can relate to students. I have been there, so I know how it feels. I know how practicing can be boring or frustrating, and how it can be hard to find time to practice. Using this experience I employ unique games and exercises to help motivate my students to get over these obstacles and succeed to the highest level.

Another thing that makes me unique is the fact that I am a composer. I have access to composition software, and can use that to transpose or compose music that is indiv
idual to every student's level. (This also cuts down on book costs at times.)

Overall, I just want to see my students happy and thriving in their love for music! Feel free to message me for details or if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you!

Chordal Ear Training changes everything!

Although classically trained, I have developed a Chordal Ear Training approach that utilizes the full spectrum of both sight-reading and playing 'by ear.'

This gives the student the maximum advantage when learning piano or advanced performance skills. My students learn not only 'piano' but the joy of Music itself.

As a teacher AND performer for many years, I've noticed that 'joy in learning AND playing' is the most important factor in inspiring a student/performer to be diligent and even passionate about their practice. Thus, they become highly motivated, get noticeably better, improve remarkably and quickly, and gain confidence in their ability and talent.

About Todd
What do Star Wars, Billy Joel and Dallas Holm all have in common?

All three inspired me to attempt to play music.

Music has played a very significant role in my life since high school, where 'study hall' was my chance to first play by ear on a grand piano. I LOVED playing music and singing!

Evidently it 'took.' I sooned gained admission through audition to the University of Tennessee where I studied classical, jazz and vocal music with Dr. Bill Dorn, Dean of Piano, and acclaimed jazz master and author Dr. Jerry Coker.

From the World's Fair to the Biltmore House, I have enjoyed performing at these and many other venues. Yet, teaching is my first love musically.

Over the years I have found teaching not only sight-reading based methods but chordal and ear training to be essential elements of enhancing my students and student
performers.

You see, reading sheet music is only a piece of the pie. When you add ear-training, active listening, performance training, multi-genre analysis, accompaniment and collaboration to the educational mix, students begin to understand and LOVE music.

Once students love music, there is no stopping them! Students practice and PLAY more, and they get better because of their enhanced practicing. It becomes less work and more PLAY!

And passionate students become PERFORMERS! Whether for audiences of one or hundreds, the satisfaction and sense of fulfillment is amazing, and THAT is why I teach. The rewards and excitement are mutual, for the student, for me and their audiences.

I have been performing and teaching for over 35 years and love to share my amazing musical experiences (and experience). It could change your approach to music, enhance your appreciation and understanding of music, and quite possibly change your musical life.

I believe music to be one of the most enjoyable, even spiritual, things we can do. It is a great thing for ourselves and also for those around us. I seek to make piano lessons fun, inspiring, motivating. I have over 11 years of experience helping both children and adults ages 6 through 84 in multiple areas of piano, including classical, pop, rock, and piano improvisation. Prior to takelessons.com, I have 5 years of experience teaching students online. As for adults, I have helped everyone from total beginners in theirs 70s or 80s to working adults who haven't taken lessons since they were kids. My ideal student is motivated with a true desire to learn piano, and a willingness to learn the habit of daily practice in order to make consistent progress.

About Chris
I have been teaching piano for 11 years. Since 2012, I have run "Piano Lessons in Sacramento," my personal piano studio in Northern California. My studio has been a finalist two years running in a local "best of" contest for local businesses called the Sacramento A-List. I have also been featured on a local morning show called "Good Day Sacramento," broadcast through the CW network. I specialize in personalized attention with the student, as I always aim to get to know the student's particular music desires, strengths, and weaknesses, and help them to grow not only as musicians, but as people. I subscribe to the philosophy that learning is 80% psychology, and 20% actual skills. Therefore, I am big on helping students have the mindset to succeed at their musical goals while guiding them to to gain the knowledge to do so. I find this
approach works very well with adults, who often need the guidance of someone who believes in them. I also aim to help students experience the joy of learning. I believe that with true desire and dedication, any student will surprise themselves by how much they learn.

More generally about my musical background: I am a graduate of UC Berkeley with honors with a BA in Music, and I am a life-long musician, songwriter, and composer. I have performance experience in nearly every area of music, including pop, rock, musical theater, classical, and hip hop, and have performed for or with clients as diverse as retirement homes, high schools, colleges, and community centers throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento.
