I encourage all my students to enjoy exploring the sound of the saxophone and to find their voice on the instrument. Lessons include everything from reading and basic stylistic concepts, to improvisation, playing along with recordings of your favorite players, and transcription. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program and have over 15 years of teaching experience.

I am also very diligent in teaching sound production, embouchure, and tone. I specialize in prepping saxophonists for high school and college auditions. Many of my high school students have participated in San Diego Honor Band and San Diego Youth Symphony and received top honors. I also offer full-service recording services and can help guide you through the college audition process.

About Ian
I've been teaching woodwinds (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) for the past 15 years and enjoy the one-on-one interaction with students of all ages. Music is one of the last professions that is truly learned through apprenticeship. Having a good private teacher is absolutely essential to your growth and development!

Over the years I've amassed wide variety of concepts and materials to speed your learning process and keep things FUN. I've taught all ages and abilities: new beginners (elementary and middle school level), older students just picking up the horn again, conservatory-bound high school students, amateur professionals, marching band & drum core kids, retirees looking for a fun hobby, professional musicians looking to expand their jazz knowledge, and more. We'll start at your level and expand from there! Styles I've performed in
include classical, jazz, latin, pop, fusion, rock, funk, and more.

I encourage all my students to enjoy exploring the SOUND of their instrument and to find their own voice. Lessons include everything from reading and basic stylistic concepts, to improvisation, learning songs, playing along with recordings of your favorite players, and jazz transcription. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program and have over 15 years of teaching experience. I'm currently adjunct faculty at USD Dept of Music, Mesa College, and have taught as a clinician/coach for numerous high school and middle school programs. In the past I’ve had the opportunity to study with many inspiring musicians and I enjoy passing on the tradition to new students!

I am a beginning Tenor Sax student and a senior citizen. I have played other instruments years ago, but never a woodwind instrument. Ian has been a marvelous instructor for me. Although I had never picked up a sax until December 2014, he already has taught me how to play several simple tunes and a number of scales. His patience and sensitivity to the appropriate pace is impecable. He also keeps me informed of other activities - concerts, recordings, community events to reinforce my interest. I would recommend Ian as a music teacher to anyone without reservation or hesitation.

I’m an adult beginner student and have been taking lessons for approximately one year. Ian’s approach and method have really motivated me. I’m playing music that I enjoy, while improving my basic skills. He is very patient and is an excellent instructor and outstanding musician. I would definitely recommend anyone who is serious about learning to play woodwind instruments. I’m looking forward to my next year working with Ian.

I'm a full-time musician in the music industry for 13 years now performing with such artists as J.C. Chasez (N'Sync), Tony-award winner Alice Ripley along with several theater companies. I've also coached multiple band programs for 4 years now. Success comes from having a thorough understanding of each instrument I play. This allows for multiple approaches to learning each instrument, rapid development of the student and involving fun teaching techniques. You'll learn fast and enjoy doing it!

About Jesse
Music lessons were such a chore in my childhood. My mother drudgingly dragged me to lessons every week and forced me to practice at least once a week before my next lesson. I soon met a new teacher who offered a different perspective and genuinely made playing music fun.

I can honestly say that it changed my life.

I wouldn't come to understand how until much later. I couldn't have even imagined becoming a professional musician until college but I was certainly given the tools to be successful in whatever I pursued living in such a demanding and competitive world. Self-confidence, active critical thinking skills, consistent work ethic, maintaining a healthy imagination, a lifelong appreciation for the arts. These all stem from my time in lessons and later my career in music.

As a professional musician in the San Diego and Los A
ngeles area, I perform regularly with many different music groups and solo artists including Frankie J, San Diego Symphony, San Diego Winds, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and many more. I have also coached the band programs at Helix, Hoover, Del Norte and Rancho Buena Vista High Schools on all woodwinds.

Originally a classically-trained saxophonist (concert band, orchestral, solo literature), I currently hold a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Music emphasis in Jazz from California Institute of the Arts and Bachelors of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University. I specialize in teaching intermediate and advanced students but also work very efficiently with beginners.

In the spirit of my previous teachers, I encourage new and fun methods of music instruction while still reinforcing the basics. All with the idea of having fun while playing music!

Thank you for your consideration.

I have been working with Jesse for a few years now. I am bummed that the subject section of this review only lets me select one subject. Jesse has helped me with ear training, theory and composition, piano, performance, harmony, and overall musician advice. I cannot think of a more authentic and caring mentor and teacher out there that could be as efficient and helpful as Jesse has been to my career. I have seen a lot of progress in my musical career and my confidence as a musician has grown thanks to Jesse! He genuinely cares about the art and his students, he gets involved in their music careers and makes sure that the lesson is learned. He is familiar with many approaches and works hard for his students. Music is very lucky to have Jesse as a teacher!

I highly recommend lessons with Jesse, he makes playing fun!

I give my students a good foundation in solid and beautiful sound production. I encourage ear training and solo transcription to help students internalize what it means to play a saxophone solo and to play with a band. I help students learn to learn. I teach the techniques necessary to take control of their own playing and bring it to the next level. I work with any books or topics or pieces that you are using for any other school or outside music activities, and go from there.

About Alexander
I have been teaching and playing music professionally for a little over 5 years. I have performed a variety of genres from Indy, Pop, Latin Jazz, Avant-garde, Jazz, blues and rock to classical styles in Chicago, New York, Dallas, Tokyo, Seoul, and Bangkok. I graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music before moving to Korea and then Thailand to teach and play music and to teach English, Literature, and ESL classes in a variety of schools. I taught music to students in middle school and high school at the International Pioneers School in Bangkok, Thailand before relocating to Boston in late 2015. I approach music with a goal of creating a solid Aural foundation so that students can explore and enjoy any styles that they seek to master. I mix in a variety of schools of teaching, with a heav
y improvisational anchor and ear training.

About Josh
I am an avid clarinetist, energetic performer and enthusiastic teacher. My dream career is to be a soloist like Martin Frost, to play in an orchestra, or compose and perform my music.

Josh has been a fantastic Instructor for my middle school age son. He worked closely with him on several pieces that were required to audition at two summer music camps helping him to move from near last position the year before to the top of the class. His improvements were formally recognized with an award at the end of 7th grade and I think Josh was a large part of that improvement. We were saddened to hear that Josh would be leaving the Denver area but wish him the best of success in his new ventures. Josh is an excellent instructor and we would certainly work with him again in the future.

I've been teaching Saxophone for 9 almost 10 years and my students have gone on to develop a deep love for music! Within the first few lessons, you'll start playing simple scales and as time goes on, you'll be able to sight read like a pro. I also specialize in music ear training and vocal harmony. I love working with students of all experience levels and look forward to working with you and your child.

About Kenneth
Hi, there! My name is Kenneth and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2009 and have loved helping my students sight read, play by ear, and further their music knowledge in theory. I went to Norfolk State University and majored in Music Education. I'm a knowledgeable, caring, and disciplined musician who will have high expectations of the students I teach. With me being your child's teacher you can also look forward to me being an awesome role model for your child. I am one of the youth leaders at my church and have a few youth musicians under my tutelage there as well. Mr. Kenneth is professional, pleasant, punctual and dependable to say the least. I couldn't have prayed for a better instructor for my 9-year old son Michael (MJ). He's very patient with my son. MJ has learned quite a bit in this timeframe. When Mr. Kenneth leaves MJ is able to execute with excellence as he has been instructed. Mr. Kenneth is a true inspiration. MJ is eager to practice all he's been taught because of the cultivating environment that's been set before him. He's reading notes and more! I highly recommend Mr. Kenneth!!!

When students take lessons with me, they learn both how to play their instruments and how to have fun doing it! Music is food for the soul, and learning how to make it can and should be an uplifting experience.

For beginners, we will work out of a method book to establish basic foundational skills such as developing an embouchure, rudimentary saxophone technique, reading music, and more. From there, we can delve deeper into the worlds of classical saxophone, jazz saxophone, or any other style that we want.

About Daniel
Hi! I am a saxophonist, flautist, clarinetist, pianist, and, most importantly, a lover of music. I began taking piano lessons when I was five years old; ever since then, music has been a huge part of my life. I've played in concert bands, marching bands, jazz bands, rock bands, wedding bands, pit bands, etc!. I moved to New Jersey to study at William Paterson University's jazz program and to immerse myself in the fertile musical environment that this area provides. I am always looking forward to working with new students and helping others along on their own musical journeys. Can't wait to do the same with you!
