I have been teaching piano lessons for several years now, to students ranging from 4 to 50 years of age. In the first lesson, students can expect to learn the musical alphabet, location of middle C, the correct posture and hand position, as well as some simple musical exercises depending upon the student's age and ability. My goal in teaching is to help people gain an understanding and appreciation of the piano, as well as the workings of music as a whole. While my background is in classical piano, I enjoy working with students on any style of music that utilizes sheet music.

About Maureen

A full-time operatic performer and music educator, Maureen has been teaching voice and piano lessons since 2009. She currently runs her own private studio, in addition to traveling to students' homes to teach lessons. She happily teaches anyone who has an interest and willingness to learn, regardles

My first piece of advice from experience if you're not sure you're ready to commit to lessons: get the instrument first before lessons, not the other way around!

My goal for all of my students is independence. If you've outgrown me, I've done my job!

You will learn to play pieces that you're passionate about using a combination of ear, rote, reading and writing. I've found we connect with musical concepts so much more when we've already made a connection with the music itself. Bring your own method books,, Internet songs, pop stars, etc. and we'll work on it together--but you won't just learn songs. You'll learn the behind-the-scenes concepts, the building blocks of each piece, to develop skills you can apply to future music endeavors. If you have no clue where to start, I'll help guide you through songs and styles to find pieces you'll love playing and listening to!

One more piece of advice: small, attainable goals are valuable stepping stones to gaining confidence to strive for

Brooke totally knows her stuff and has a great ear for music. She helped me learn some of my favorite Radiohead songs for piano and made it easy for a beginner like me to play and even sing along! Her ability to listen to a piece of music, analyze it, and then break it down into something understandable and playable on the spot really impressed me.

I truly appreciate what she taught me. Would definitely recommend her as a teacher to anyone who wants to learn how to play their favorite music on piano.
