I began to play the violin as a 4 year old in Eastern North Carolina. I began with Suzuki and after college began playing an electric violin for a local band. I love music...it releases a form of expression from the inner soul.

Im a graduate student at East Carolina University working on my masters in violin performance. Between undergrad and grad school I maintained a private violin studio of about 25 students for five years and am certified by the Suzuki association to teach their method through book four. In lessons I’m a big advocate for playing with ease. Playing violin can often times feel like your fighting with yourself but with good technique, it can be a joyful fulfilling experience.

I like to call it music theory in reverse. Having a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music and music theory makes the songwriting process much easier.

About my music teaching backgroud: I've taught piano since I was in high school, and continued to teach while I was a student at Cornell University. I also taught theory classes in the Cornell Piano Society, where I served as President for 4 years.

Why? I simply love music, and sharing it with others.

While I'm classically trained, I've dabbled into other genres, such as Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B, songwriting, and music production / audio engineering. I've recently been accepted into the Steinway & Sons (the piano makers) Teacher Partnership Program. Feel free to message me for more details!

About Marwan

I started playing piano when I was 3, and began writing music at the age of 6. I've taught music and piano for over 12 years, and tutoring other subjects for over 5 years. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I graduated from Cornell University in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a minor in

Jerry gives my daughter trumpet lessons online and it has been a great experience. He has a great deal of knowledge and my daughter has found his teaching method to be beneficial. Jerry is great with communication and follows up the lesson with notes and assignments. He has mixed practical with theory and there is a balance with the assignments where my daughter can also share the music that she needs to practice for orchestra. Jerry is accommodating with schedules. I can confidently say that the lessons with Jerry are quite beneficial and my daughter has great things to say about Jerry's personality as well as teaching style.

"Can't say enough good stuff about Miss Fawn. I wouldn't have made top 10 on American Idol without her guidance. Brilliant vocal coach. Hit songwriter. Piano perfection. With her at the helm, trust me, you will grow! You will become not good, not great, but spectacular! What else could you ask for? She's got the AGT, The Voice and Idol hook up! Not only is Fawn a talent in her own right and a true professional, she helps other further their own musical careers by putting you in front of the right people. I enjoy my lessons with her and I am also a big fan!"

"We have tried lessons with a few different instructors, and haven't been able to find the right mix of professional skill, likability, and ability to teach. Our daughter is on the path to becoming an advanced trombone player, and is already well above her peers at school. She's working on her collegiate audition materials and really needs an instructor who can get her to the next level. Jeremy has made a wonderful first impression, and we are confident that we've found the right instructor to get our daughter to where she wants to be in her music career."

"Alessandro is a great teacher and very thorough. He sincerely loves music and is very well rounded in his appreciation. He is not only a master pianist, but also a vocal coach and well versed organist. I myself went to four years of music school and can still learn so much from this Manhattan school of music alumni. I play live constantly and I use Alessandro to fine my set and craft. I plan on studying with Alessandro for many years to come. Highly recommended. Specifically i asked him to help with fingering, which he has a masters approach along with sight reading and rhythm."

Introduction to Proper Violin Posture

You may feel that learning the violin is all about playing the right notes at the right time. It is – to an extent. But in order to learn the various techniques and play for longer periods of time, there are other skills that every student needs to master too, and that includes proper violin posture. Because it affects all areas of violin playing, such as tone, intonation, bow hold and stroke, as well as shifting, all violin technique is built around proper violin posture. If you ignore or fo …
