About Marc
Percussionist and composer Marc W. was born in Switzerland, where he studied classical percussion at the Geneva Conservatory. He has lived in the United States since the 1980's, where he studied composition and mallet technique on the vibraphone at the Berklee School in Boston, then moved to New York City to further his jazz performance and percussion skills. Since that time, Marc has toured the U.S., Europe, Japan and Brazil, and can be heard on over 20 recordings, including 4 solo albums.
Marc's interest in electronics led him to push the boundaries of live performance with the "electronic vibraphone", where he is recognized as a pioneer on this instrument.
Beside a performer and a composer, Marc teaches workshops here and in Europe, and is very involved in making computers accessible to visually impaired musicians.
Marc has just p

This book demonstrates the techniques he developed during his many years teaching ensembles of all ages at the Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School, it features 56 video clips and over 80 musical examples.

Marc is an incredibly friendly drum coach who also knows when to push his students to their limits. He has the rare ability to inspire his students so that they perform to the best of their abilities. If you don't sign up with Marc for your next drum lesson, I would suggest re-evaluating your decisions.

Marc is a great teacher. Classes are always very friendly and productive. In my case, each class begins with a review of progress/practice, and ends with a meaningful and personalized homework. He is also very flexible, sometimes I had to move my classes around and he's always super responsive and understanding. I knew nothing about drums, and I am happy I decided to begin my journey to learn how to play them, with Marc as a mentor!

Chris taught one lesson to my son, then he cancelled the following week's lesson and never returned numerous phone calls, emails, and text messages. He didn't respond, then the following week at our next scheduled instruction he called me 30 mins before the lesson asking if he could move the date.

Needless to say, it was very unprofessional of him, and we intended to end our relationship with him as my son's instructor.

The thing got worse when he proceeded to schedule my son for a weekly reoccurring lesson for the next year. I've had to manually cancel each lesson, at least until Jan 2015.

I would strongly warn you against signing up with Chris if you expect an instructor who is reliable and responsive to your communications. I'm sorry it didn't work out, but the other problem is that this was my son's first experience to music lessons, so it was a bad first experience.

We're giving 3 out of 5 stars since that seems fair. With regards to the lessons themselves, Chris certainly met our expectations with our son's violin lessons. However, with regards to communications and scheduling, it could have been much better. More than once my son was waiting on Skype after receiving the "You have upcoming lessons" email from TakeLessons. Chris needs to learn how to cancel the lessons ahead of time. He rarely responded to emails (was trying to get him to stop showing our email openly to all his other students, really needs to learn how to use BCC). He never returned phone calls. Due to the canceled lessons, our TakeLesson pay date came prematurely, and since I waited until our son's paid lessons were completed before paying for new ones, we got dropped from the schedule and lost our time slot. Too many frustrations led to finding a new teacher.

About Joel
I have been playing the drums for nearly 20 years, in which most of my experience is hands-on, playing in contemporary church worship teams and regional Christian rock bands with occasional teaching mixed in. Personally, my favorite style of music to play is rock/alternative but I also favor acoustic/folk styles, funky grooves, Latino rhythms, and the occasional metal, blues, or jazz beats.

No matter the musical style, playing with confidence, feeling the song, and having an awareness of other musicians can escalate you from a "good" drummer to a "great!" one; and this is what I teach my students. They will learn the fundamentals of stick position, rotary movements, basic drum hits and musical notation, as well as how to play on beat (with a "click"). These skills will enable the student to learn any style of music and increase their abi
lity to play the role of the drummer in virtually any band or musical group.

For example, the bands I have played in over the years have opened for multiple National acts like Red, Disciple, Project 86, and Decyfer Down and have played festivals and tours like Cornerstone Festival, Unity Festival, and Winter Jam, opening for Mercy Me, Jars of Clay, and Hawk Nelson. I truly believe that if you know your craft and have confidence in yourself, the sky is the limit for what you can do.

Currently, I play regularly at my local church and do worship nights and events in my area. I would be honored and pleased to work with you and help you become a great drummer!

Joel has been great so far! We’ve just started with him, but he is extremely friendly and kind. He’s very encouraging and positive about growing our son’s skills. Would definitely recommend him, especially for children. He’s really good with kids.

I’ve not had lessons from Joel, but I have attended several events in which he was drumming. One of THE best drummers I have ever heard! Whether you’re just starting out or have been playing for a while I have no doubt Joel will help you improve your drumming skill.

I had the absolute pleasure of working as Nivek's music administrator for years. Her work ethic, breadth of knowledge, and passion for music education made each lesson rewarding and productive for her students. She understands how to teach...not always a given in such accomplished performer. Without hesitation I give Nivek 5 stars.

Sergei is a great teacher! Because I was a beginner, he paid attention to a correct hands' position and fingerings in order to create a proper posture and he has a wonderful ability to develop my techniques. Also, he adjusted his schedule as much as he could, so I could take a lesson when I was available. In addition, he made a fun lesson every time because he is rich in humor. I had a lot of fun during the guitar lesson. He is the best guitar teacher for me!!

Hi Im Steve. I started my venture with music when I was 6 when I learned to play the trumpet. I moved onto the drums when I was 10. Played in concert band, marching band and Jazz band through Highschool. I was captain of the drumline at Royal highschool located in Simi Valley California back in 2000 and at Narbonne highschool located in Harbor City California in 2001. I have practiced for thousands of hours and know how to sight read music and can also play by ear. I am patient and understanding that sometimes rythm takes practice.
When I got out of highschool I didn't persue a career in music like I should have. I curently play drums for fairview baptist church in Portsmouth Virginia. Drumming is my lost passion and I would like to teach other people the gift of music.
