I still don't understand why so many people laugh when you say "accordion"! Let's show them different! This is one of the most expressive, international, fun, and emotional instruments out there! So much more than just "polkas": Argentinian tangos, German beer songs, French cafe, Southern Zydeco, Irish Celtic music, Russian folk, Italian melodic, and the list goes on... Bottom line: I love this instrument because it is FUN and VERY "produceable". Half of it is an arsenal of buttons while the other half is a good 'ol keyboard, and depending on which model you have, there are many tonal buttons to thoroughly change its personality -- no electricity needed!
I can teach you how to create some fun and inspired music on it regardless of your musical tastes, as long as you have a PIANO ACCORDION -- not JUST buttons like a bayan or concertina (sorry -- please note that I do NOT teach chromatic/diatonic button accordion or "virtual/electronic accordions" such as the Roland series -- just

I play the piano accordion. I can not teach the various other types of accordion. We can learn anything from Classical to Honky Tonk! I mix sight-reading with theory to teach a variety of styles. I use a metronome and fun recordings to play along with!
About Mary

Unfortunately, I had to cancel the rest of my lessons with Mary because I was becoming too busy with work to stay committed to my lessons and practice. If I ever take lessons again I'll definitely sign up with Mary again, zero complaints.

Online Accordion Lessons from Expert Instructors
The accordion isn't a typical musical instrument. Based on the vibrating reed principle, the accordion is a German instrument, Christian Friedrich Buschmann's invention. Over the years, it has seen popularity in several different types of music. It's probably best-known for its presence in polka, but it's also quite prominent in folk music and traditional celebratory songs from all over Europe. The accordion's impact on contemporary music can't be denied, and its sound is so unique that modern artists have continued to experiment with it in the studio.
While the accordion is well-noted as a folk instrument, its manufacturers wanted to see it have a more mainstream place in music. In the 1920s, manufacturers tried to shift the public's perception towards the instrument, with some measure of success. Accordions found their way into orchestras. Sheet music for playing classical music on it started to circulate. Eventually, the company moved operations from Germany to China. Today, China is the world's largest producer of professionally made accordions.
The accordion saw a renaissance in the 80s that continues to today. Pop, rock, and even Latin music recognized that the instrument's tone and flexibility were unique. Portability allowed it to be used in music videos - the driving force for marketing music in the late 80s and early 90s. It's not uncommon to listen to some popular 80s music and hear the tones of an accordion in the background. Modern music has continued this tradition, and even though it's not truly a mainstream instrument, it sees a lot of use in the industry.
In more recent years, much of the accordion's popularity has resurfaced in two strange yet welcome arenas. Indie music bands are realizing how unique the instrument is and have started including it in their ensembles. These bands aren't massive commercial outfits and usually get into the industry for the love of music. Using the accordion helps them to reach into areas of music that would otherwise be locked off to them. Another strange yet exciting use of the accordion in the 21st century is in Latin music, specifically in Texas and its environs. The peculiar yet haunting combination of the accordion with deep south Latin music gives a bit of that old-world spice that seems to be lacking in other iterations of the craft. As its popularity grows, the demand for players will rise.
Types of Accordion
If you're planning on learning the accordion, the first and most vital step is finding one you're comfortable with. There are two major classes of accordion, with further subclasses that don't really affect the instrument's usability. Piano accordions are the most familiar ones, with keyboards attached to both sides of the bellows. For someone who's just getting into the hang of things, piano accordions provide a friendly and straightforward interface to understand the instrument. Button accordions are also called Cajun or Irish accordions (since they feature prominently in some of those cultures' music), utilize buttons instead of keys. These accordions can be a bit more challenging for a beginner. Their functionality focuses on using the buttons and differing strength of squeezes to generate the tones and notes. They also require you to memorize all of the controls.
Why Take Online Accordion Lessons
Learning to play the accordion takes dedication and practice. Learning accordion online offers you a chance to explore the past of Old Europe, along with its music from the comfort of your own home. Planning online lessons is a cinch since you can schedule them around your daily activities. It doesn't matter where in the world you are. Online classes can teach you the fundamentals of this remarkable instrument at your own leisure. Is this the first time you're delving into the accordion? Not a problem. Skilled instructors can take you from beginner to intermediate at your own pace. You don't have to worry about competing with anyone.
Starting with the accordion might seem a bit overwhelming at first. However, you'd be surprised at how intuitive it is to pick up the instrument's fundamentals with an expert tutor. Understanding the basics and how to apply them is the first thing an accordion teacher should teach you. An online teacher has the benefit of helping you in proper form and use of the accordion on your own terms. It's this setting that makes learning the accordion online such a stress-free experience.
Benefits of Landing an Expert Accordion Teacher
One of the essential parts of learning to play the accordion is finding a competent and accessible teacher. Since it's such a unique instrument, teachers for the accordion can be hard to locate and even harder to schedule lessons with. In some areas, you may not even be able to find someone to teach you the instrument. The population of expert accordionists is dwindling across the world. As someone who wants to learn the accordion, you will be carrying on a tradition that reaches into the past. Together with a skilled accordion tutor, you can uncover the secrets of this instrument and keep its legacy alive in the modern world.
Expert accordion teachers have the patience to train new and intermediate players in the art of using the instrument. Without a teacher, you may take as much as a year to stumble over the basics of the accordion. Even when you grasp the concepts, specific fundamental movements and elements of controlling and manipulating the instrument may be out of your reach. Finding a teacher offers you a much more streamlined timeline for getting to grips with the device. Within a few months, with daily practice, you will be able to play the instrument relatively well and even entertain a few others with your music.
Expert accordion teachers allow you to experiment but keep you focused on the task at hand. In the past, finding an accordion teacher that knew what they were about might require you to travel great distances just to get a lesson. Even so, classes were few, far between, and expensive for the average learner. Because of this difficulty in obtaining a tutor, the art of accordion playing has become a niche practice. Luckily, online teaching has come to the rescue of the accordion.
