This is a video for starting out on flute that will take you from putting your instrument together properly to playing a tune in 15 minutes! I break every part of the process of assembling your flute, stabilizing it in your hands, forming your embouchure (lip positions), making a sound, and even a few fingerings to get you started! Hi, there! My name is Elisa and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have loved helping my students learn and/or improve their flute playing and improve their general understanding of music. I also really love helping students learn to articulate their ideas on paper! I went to East Carolina University and earned my BM in Music Performance and a BA in Hispanic Studies in 2016. I strive to make lessons both a fun and productive experience for students, and will use the educational goals that the student identifies to structure custom lesson plans for that student. I strongly believe in explaining the reasoning behind activities so students understand the goals that they are working towards in our lessons, and I am passionate about helping my students succeed. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Kidznotes is a non-profit organization that provides a free and accessible after-school music program for kids who would otherwise not be able to afford instruments or lessons. I was a choral teacher for one of the Kindergarten classes, and a Program Assistant for the Durham branch.

I have had many different students of all experience levels, and we will work together to identify and achieve your personal goals as a flutist and musician! All lessons are constructed to be engaging, interactive, comfortable, and fun! I understand that people learn differently, and I often utilize a variety of different activities or games to understand different mechanisms for flute playing. I focus on developing sound through the identification, manipulation, and collaboration of embouchure and diaphragmatic support; developing musicality in phrasing through the relation of singing and playing the flute, and focus on correct and hand and body position to prevent injury and to facilitate all aspects of playing the flute.

Shifting between registers is something that comes up in almost any piece you might want to play on the flute. The thing about shifting registers is that it can be tricky, like trying to hit a moving target. In this video I explain how you can make smooth transitions between registers, whether it is through step-wise motion or octave leaps!

Lots of flute-y pieces get into the higher register of the instrument, but how do you get those notes to pop out and sing? This video will teach you the tips and tricks for popping out those pesky higher register notes, and teaches you the standard fingerings up to a C 2 octaves above the staff.

Ah the lower register- perhaps one of the trickier parts of playing flute is playing in the lowest registers of the instrument. This video teaches you the low register fingerings and gives quick tips and fixes for common difficulties students have with getting the lower register to speak on flute.
