It’s been a while since I last played, so I wanted to start at the basics. He has found a few things that I need to knock a lot of rust off of - exactly why I wanted to start from basics. If I don’t quite grasp an instruction - he’s patient and tries from a different angle to get the point across. I enjoy the lessons.

Josh is an excellent teacher who focuses on developing ALL of a musician's skills. This is not simply a rote progression through the Suzuki books, but he includes ear training, improvisation, sight reading, as well as making sure the lessons particular pieces are supposed to teach are actually being taught. He does all of this in a relaxed manner designed to set the student at ease. He is also available to talk outside the studio if you have questions about anything, including how to change your strings. The only reason I am not taking lessons with Josh anymore is I am leaving the state for work. I can't recommend him highly enough.

In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 7 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students€™ awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for one€™s creativity.

About Roberta

Flutist, Roberta M., is equally at home playing classical and new music. I Care If You Listen has extolled her “lush, full tones… even among the best professionals, not many flute players sound so compelling in a lower register.” Praising her “extreme adventurousness,” New York Concert Review said

Roberta was patient and was obviously an experienced teacher. I teach and I understand what it takes to put a lesson together so that the student gets the most out of it, while pushing the student to do better, but not too much to discourage them from moving forward. She hits that sweet spot! I would recommend her to anyone who was serious about learning.

Anne is an attentive and dedicated teacher! As an adult learner, I have appreciated how she is able to offer practical suggestions on how to effectively practice and gain immediate useable skills. She is fun to work with, always with a smile, and is very personable.

Anne was lovely.
She taught me all the nuts and bolts of playing the instrument in a way that was clear This included the integral parts of the harp, how to read music, how to posture the harp, and hand positioning Anne showed a good measure of patience, which was much appreciated.
