Beginners will be up and playing songs within a few lessons. Experienced musicians will learn to go deeper into music theory and chordal structures.

About Daniel

In addition to teaching music, I am also a special education assistant and wrestling/track coach at Lake Zurich Middle School South and an assistant Kung Fu/Tai Chi instructor at Green Mountain Arts in Logan Square, Chicago, Illinois. Jazz piano, Voice, and Composition are my main areas of expertise. However, I have also been recording, and playing guitar almost my entire life. I fully believe in music education not only for entertainment and personal enjoyment, but for many other means. Beyond its capacity for being used as entertainment, music aids in learning, helps develop advanced motor skills, increases memory function, and many other purposes for a well rounded education. It is my goal to help educate the next generation in traditional music practices as well as incorporate new ...

Daniel is awesome!! He really knows how to customize the lesson to your skill level and makes it so that it's easy to learn. I'm already memorizing and learning things that I didn't think I would be able to. I'm really enjoying my lessons and so glad that I signed up. Looking forward to many more lessons from Daniel!

Daniel is a highly skilled piano teacher.

I have been very impressed with Daniel's instruction abilities - he is patient, tuned-in to whether or not I 'get it', and has opened the door to a whole new way to re-learn piano for personal enjoyment.
Dan C. Barrington, IL

All levels are welcome! I have taught hundreds of absolute beginners and intermediate to advanced students as well. I like to think I get beginners started the "right" way- through learning to read music, gaining an understanding of basic musical concepts and building confidence through a progressive guitar method designed for each student. I use several guitar method books in my lessons (Mel Bay, Alfred, Guitar For The Small Fry) that we use depending on the student's age and prior musical/guitar experience, in addition to my own library of guitar materials.

For intermediate to advanced students, I specialize in single note soloing and improvisation, developing and building a chord vocabulary, developing good picking and fingerstyle technique, sight reading, ear training and applying music theory concepts to make one a better musician. I am well-versed in Rock, Progressive Rock, Blues, Folk, Fingerstyle, Classical, and Jazz guitar....let me help you get better while having a blast

About Dan

I have been playing guitar for 30 years, starting with Rock/Blues before studying both Classical and Jazz guitar in college. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1995. I am currently a guitar teacher in the NW Chicago suburbs and in Chicago currently with 45+ students, teaching all ages, all levels and all styles. I have been teaching guitar and music off and on for the past 20+ years but in 2007 I decided to devote myself to teaching full time (yes, teaching guitar is my primary job!)...one of the best decisions I have ever made! To me, playing music is an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s also a lot of fun! But no matter what your goals are in music, I have found, through many years of playing and teaching, that every musician ...

Best Teacher and Encouraging

I have had Dan as my Guitar Teacher, he is the best in teaching Guitar from the basics. I started with him as nothing since I do not have any Musical Background, He encouraged me well to understand the Music notes and Guitar Tabs. Every lessons with him was so much interesting and particularly he asks me to choose my favorite song and explore the Guitar notes. That makes the learning interesting and willing to explore the different types of Music.
Any questions I asked about the Music, he could explain by the way that I can easily understand. Every second in his class is valuable and has some good information about Music.
He is the Best and I always feel proud to say that I am his student.

Best teacher i've had

Dan is amazing. I've had him as a teacher for a few years and I have already learned to play Hotel California, Johnny B. Goode, and many other songs. Dan brings his own equipment so that you can get printed handouts whenever you want. He is quite instructive and explains things in simplest terms. If you are having some trouble with something, he breaks it down into smaller pieces. Dan is definitely the best teacher I have had.

Brandon has give the perfect complement for my 9 yo daughter in-school lessons. She started in the school orchestra this year and she was among the least knowledgable students; right after she started with Brandon, her performance improved significantly. Now she's preparing for her first solo performance and Brandon has been a key in this process.

Brandon knew exactly hot to kickstart my 13 yo daughter in guitar. It was her first lesson ever and after a few weeks she made a huge progress. Now she plays guitar much better than me and it's been just a few months so far. This is part talent, but I have no doubt this is also part orientation. Brandon did a great job in motivation with her and figured out the best way to engage her in her learning.
Paul W. Chicago, IL

I tailor all my lessons to the individual students interests and wants.
Whatever your goals are, I'll help you get there.

About Paul

I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative ...

I was an intermediate guitarist before I started working with Paul. I felt as though I was stuck and needed some help before I could get to the next level. Its been over two months and Paul has showed me a whole new approach to the guitar. These new techniques to playing have really opened my eyes and now I play with a sense of purpose and flow instead of just cord progressions. I can't wait to see my progress into the future. Thanks Paul

About Ian

I’ve been teaching professionally to all ages and levels for over 10 years throughout the Chicagoland area. I have been playing for about 19 years. Music is my passion. I even own and run an all ages music venue. Teaching is my biggest love and I love seeing students learn! There isn’t a style I will not teach. All music to me is fascinating:) *** Lesson Details *** All lessons start with the basics (assuming the student doesn’t already know them). This includes: reading music and chord diagrams (usually using a book for students under the age of 15), understanding rhythm, basic music theory, etc. Meanwhile, we apply this knowledge to songs of the student’s choice- this way they’re learning songs they like, and more about guitar and music at the same time. As time goes on we’ll get into ...

great teacher for popular acoustic guitar

Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home.

A great experience.

As an adult, beginner student I have nothing but good things to say about Ian. He has a very good demeanor during class and takes the time to find out what styles you are interested in.

He has the patience and communication skills that are found in superior instructors (I have been to a couple others and have stuck with Ian). His passion for music is infectious.

He challenges me to become better with each week and is good at instilling a sense of competition. I highly recommend him as an instructor.

Vocal Training · In studio
Kimberly is the best teacher I've ever had. Growing up in Barrington, we had a wide variety of private tutors and vocal trainers. My mother once put me up for private sessions for three months before my school musical. I thought I had received good training. Thought. My mother referred me to Kimberly after hearing her sing at a venue. I perused some of her videos and I must say that I was highly impressed. I signed up for a lesson, and my vocal range increased magnanimously! I am now able to sing in octaves in which I previously was unaware existed. My range is now more comfortable than my boat shoes whilst I cigar with the boys. I would recommend Kimberly to the highest degree possible and then some. If you don't know Kimberly, you are nowhere near your potential in vocals, guitar, or even life.
