Paul W.

Chicago, IL

I tailor all my lessons to the individual students interests and wants.
Whatever your goals are, I'll help you get there.

About Paul

I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it
on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative pitch will make my students improve quicker. I am also a very skilled sight reader and can recognize key signatures and musical notation. I’ve also been playing electric bass guitar for 13 years now and have the same skill set as my guitar playing. In fact I am hired to perform more often as a bassist than a guitarist.
I went to Columbia College between 2000-2003 and I completed a Bachelor Arts in Music, Concentration: Instrument Performance.
I also went to Harper College between 1997-2000 and I completed an Associates in Fine Arts of Music.

Paul is an awesome teacher! He's friendly and encouraging and never made me feel bad if I didn't have time to practice. I learned a lot in just a few meetings, gained confidence, and had a lot of fun. The lessons didn't feel like lessons and the time flew by. Thanks, Paul!

About Nathaniel

Hello my name is Nate. I have been playing guitar since my early teenage years, and I have always had a great passion for music. I have played guitar for two different bands and have also done solo and independent work on the guitar. I took guitar lessons for four years and I am currently at McHenry Country College working towards my associate's degree in fine arts and music. I have taught guitar for almost three years now and I am looking to expand my horizons! I am only twenty-one years old and I still remember what it feels like to be someone first starting out on guitar. I have worked with
many different age groups and musical genre's when teaching, and I know that I can help you get to the skill level you hope to achieve on guitar.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are generally plan-based around the pre-existing skill level of each individual student. I will give the student exercises and assign practice "homework" so the student can achieve what they want to learn, as fast as they want to learn it. I am laid back and willing to teach at any pace desired by any student. After six months a beginner on guitar will have learned all the basic chords, a few cover songs of their choice, exercises to help improve speed and stamina while playing, and the knowledge of how to use the chords they have learned to create their own songs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Basement studio, guitars, amps, mics, pa system, bass guitars, street parking.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching the playing of acoustic guitar, punk-rock guitar, alternative rock guitar, classic rock guitar, metal guitar, and pop rock guitar. I also specialize in teaching song-writing and soloing. I teach the classical modes and key signatures on the guitar and show how to implement them with tempo and time signatures into songwriting. I know many cover songs and am willing to learn more and show others how to play them.

Two thumbs up!

Nate’s knowledge and interest in guitar is evident. He explains key signatures, basic music theory, and chord progression in a way that is easy to understand. Nate is very patient and understanding and he is willing to teach just about anything you wish to learn. I’ve already learned so much in the short time I have taken lessons with him. I’d recommend taking lessons with Nate to anyone and everyone!

Nate knows music, and knows how to teach it.

I have been in a band with Nate for almost three years now. He knows the guitar like it's a part of him. When I first picked up the guitar I was amazed at how quickly he was able to teach me, and at how quickly I learned. I drum for Nate's band, but I wanted to learn guitar so I could help with the writing of new songs. Nate showed me all I needed to know and more. I no longer take lessons with him because I gained all the knowledge of guitar I needed to. Nate was very good at relating the instrument to me in a way that I understood, and showing me not only how to play certain things, but why they were played that way. I would recommend him to anyone first starting out on the guitar.

Steven B.

Hanover Park, IL

Guitar lessons given up to advanced beginner and beginning intermediate. My curriculum includes learning to read music via a method book, and applying that knowledge to real songs in chart form. Open chords, fingering, power chords, barre chords, songs, and riffs will be touched upon in the lessons.

About Steven

I have been studying and performing music for 20+ years. After majoring in music at College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn IL, I went to step up my level of study at the Percussion Institute of Technology (P.I.T.) at Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA in 2001 attaining a Performance Certificate from my time studying there.

Moving back to Chicago after L.A. in 2002 proved to be the right move as this is when I began my teaching career. With 12+ years of private and group music instruction experience, I have worked with Hix Brothers Music, Naperville Music, Roselle Music, Streamwood Park Distri
ct, After School Enrichment Solution's Guitar Stars, Band For Today, Guitar Fundamentals, Chicago Guitar Instruction, Schaumburg Music Academy, Music Makers of Western Springs, and also maintain a private clientele. Well into a thousand lessons taught, students have stayed with me for up to 7 years. You, the student, will gain all the experience I have gained from my 20 years of study, performance, and instruction.

Performing with various bands in the 2000's, I pinpointed my style and mastered my technique that gave me many performance opportunities regionally and nationally, noting most current act U2 tribute Vertigo USA and country rock cover act soon to be announced featuring members of Trash Martini.

I am co-founder of the music licensing production company Blue Shade Music, co-writing with astute musicians in the Chicago area for music libraries in Florida and California currently.

With national and international touring experience, I was featured in an exclusive interview for Online Drummer in August of 2011 sharing my knowledge and experience of music and drums.

Thank you for reading, and I hope to have a fun and educational time with you!

Steven is a great teacher! He's flexible, and works well with all ages! He's teaching my 3 kids, drums, guitar and bass. He's very receptive and adjusts his lessons according to what my kids are interested in. For example one of my kids was learning notes, but then the other wanted to learn a specific song and he easily adjusted to focus on what each of them wanted to do to. My kids love him!

I took 5 in-home guitar lessons from Steve and loved every minute! I had never played guitar before so we were starting from scratch. We covered a lot of information, tailored to what I wanted to learn, and I felt like I made a lot of progress in a short amount of time. Steve was always on time, well-prepared for lessons, and was very encouraging. I would recommend Steve to anyone interested in taking guitar lessons.

Jeremie W.

Grayslake, IL

I have been playing guitar for 15 years. I make lesson plans based on each individual, so I don't teach every one the same boring songs or use the same regiment with everyone. I want to teach you what YOU want to learn.

About Jeremie

I just graduated from Columbia College Chicago in May 2014 with a BA in Music Composition. I studied under composers: Drew Baker, Kenn Kumpf, Ilya Levinson, and Marcos Balter. I've had performances and worked with members from the groups, Del Niente and Chicago's Composer's Collective.
I'm a self taught guitarist who has been playing for 14 years. I have played in numerous bands and ensembles ranging from jazz to folk to rock. I've been writing music for the same length of time. Song-writing, counterpoint, orchestrating, arranging, music theory, and composing are subjects I'm well v
ersed in and would love to teach to other people. I'm experienced with all kinds of music software, such as: Pro Tools, Logic, Garage Band, Cubase, FL Studio, Finale, Sibelius. If you want to learn how to write, record, mix, and master your own music, there's never been a better time to learn.

Eric J.

Elgin, IL

Hi. I'm Eric. I own a Studio in Elgin, IL. I've been a full time performer and music educator my entire adult life. I currently teach between 30-50 students per week and perform in the Northern Illinois/ Chicago area. My heart is in jazz but most of my pro work is in pop/rock/blues. I have experience with and am confident in teaching any style of music on guitar or bass. Like any good music educator, my teaching methods are goal-based and properly graded.

About Eric

Hi.
I'm Eric and I own a Music Lesson Studio in Elgin, IL.

I specialize in working with beginners of any age as well as advanced students who are interested in taking their playing to the next level. Here are some of the things I like to focus on.

Child beginners: Learning to read music. Building confidence and self esteem through learning to play guitar. General music education. Teaching children songs they enjoy to listen to.

Adult Beginners: Learning to play popular rock songs. Chord strumming. Having a nice, relaxing, no pressure lesson.

Advanced students: Learning to read mu
sic at a professional level. Lead guitar. Jazz improvisation.

I'm a professional, full time musician and educator and my guitar has been paying my bills my entire adult life. I have real world, professional experience playing and teaching guitar as well as bass guitar, drums, piano, mandolin and more on countless gigs here in Northern, IL. I teach between 30-50 private students per week. I have taught hundreds of students in the past 12 years how to reach their musical goals. I've played tons of theater. I played guitar, mandolin, and drums as a swing musician for the Chicago Production of Jersey Boys at the Bank of America Theater in 2008. In 2014 I played a lot theater gigs for local productions such as Little Shop of Horrors (bass), Hands on a Hardbody (Guitar, Steel/Slide) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat (guitar). I grew up as a gigging rock n roll/blues guitar player, but my heart is in jazz. I am confident and fluent in, and have gigged most styles of guitar playing.
